Treo 650 Costs

I've been waiting for the 650 to come out, sounds like I can order it now or pick it up early next week. Now that its here I have a couple of questions on cost.

1) How much is the phone going to be?
2) Do you need the 44.95/mo data fee to access the internet? Or can you access the internet via the 7.99 MSN internet plan?
3) Is the 44.95 plan for accessing/wireless syncing w/ email only - and is there any other way to sync up email without LIVE emails. I simply get too much email at work and don't want my treo getting alerts all day.

I guess thats it for now.. I'm new to PDAs, but plan on picking up the treo next week.

Thanks!

There is a way to access e-mail from the Treo without constantly getting alerts. I'm not intimately familiar with it, but it can be done.

With a Treo you must have a data plan. Many people, including a few who work for VZW or their indirect sales agents, do not understand this and will try to convince you that you do not need a data plan. Don't listen to them. You will regret it.

You must have a data plan in addition to your voice calling plan, and any data that you use will be billed under the data plan. You cannot use voice plan minutes for data access.

According to the article on the front page of PhoneScoop, data pricing just dropped. The choices are as follows: unlimited $44.99, 10 MB $24.99, and pay-as-you-go.

Pay-as...

Getting the unlimited data plan is the way to go. It offers unlimited use of the actual internet. The MSN thing is Mobile Web and it sucks. Try and remember the very early AOL days and you'd have a good idea of how great mobile web is.

You CAN opt to not get the unlimited plan, but the phone automatically makes a call about every 3-5 minutes to check for sync updates. Without a data plan your bill will be roughly $1000 or up to $4000. I've seen it. If you specifically decline a data package, they will not be able to help you with that bill.

If you just want it for occasional web use and home email updates, the 10MB pack might work. When you sign up for it, ask if you can try that plan and see if it works for your usage. Then ask if y...

Just to clarify: the outrageous bills he's referring to tend to develop when you have no data plan at all. If you select the 10MB or the pay-as-you-go and you use very little data, you should be okay.

What Vatothe0 is saying is correct. The device is not designed to operate without a data plan. Data transmission will not bill accurately without one of the data plans. But if you hardly use data, then the pay-as-you-go plan will address this problem.

The result is that many customers, and a small number of reps, do not understand that pay-as-you-go is not the same as "not having a data plan." Customers who get signed up for pay-as-you-go will tell you, "I don't have a data plan. I just pay my regular phone bill of $59.99 for 900 m...

Thanks for the info guys.. very helpful. Data plan it is... I'll be using it to check email for work as well as using it for internet use pretty often, so unlimited is probably the way to go.

Why is it that Verizon charges $45 for unlimited data plans (actually $49.95 w/a $5 discount) and Sprint only charges $15 for unlimited data? Are they the same service?
