Are BlueTooth AT&T phones OBEX ENABLED?

The BlueTooth OBEX (Object Exchange) profile is what allows the user to transfer picture files wirelessly (and thus for free). Verizon disables this OBEX feature and forces its users to pay a fee for that function*. Only one phone that I know of has an ENABLED OBEX, and that is the Nokia 6256i.

Question: Does AT&T also disable the OBEX profile in BlueTooth or do AT&T phones come OBEX enabled?

*Or buy a memory card for it.

Dear Koziekat —
Is this called UNLOCKING the phone? I have nothing against doing it, but then if something goes wrong with my cell phone, would the carrier refuse to touch it because of my having unlocked a locked phone?????

Lorna,

What he is saying is incorrect. Please refer to ralph's response for an answer that is 100% accurate.

AT&T does nothing to the phone.

No, unlocking a phone means enabling it to use SIM cards from other carriers. By doing this you could use a foriegn SIM card in your cingular phone.

at&t doesn't disable phone features. Every phone that supports OBEX from the manufacturer still supports it on the end model. So if the phone says it has the OBEX profile here on phonescoop, you can be guaranteed the at&t model will support it.

The only exception to things like this is that not all phones play nice. My BB transfers files fine by Bluetooth, but income transfers are denied. It has some beefed up security features (or so BB claims).

Ah. Well phones are not intentionally disabled by Cingular. They're supposed to be set to the manufacturer capabilities.
