Can T-Mobile customers use Cingular/Att towers in their home area?

I know that they are all GSM, but a T-Mobile agent told me that their phones "use the same towers as Cingular" when I expressed concern about hearing rumors that T-Mobile's reception/coverage is not all that great. I know that if you are out of your service area that phones would roam on other carriers systems, but what about if you are in the middle of a big city with T-Mobile coverage and just happen to be in a pocket with no T-Mobile signal? Will the T-Mobile phone connect to a Cingular tower in this case?.....or just simply have no reception period? I would think that it won't use Cingular's tower if the area is "supposed to be" covered by T-Mobile.

I would appreciate some info on this.

Thanks in Advance,

You have heard right... TMobile Coverage is mediocre at best. If you live in a major city then you will have either good or very good service. However, if you live in a non-major town, you will get poor or no service.

I travel over 4 midwest states to get to school every year, and it has been my experience that your TMobile phone will switch carriers automatically IF you are "roaming." For example, when I travel through Madison and Wisconsin in general, my phone banner changes from TMobile to Einstein PCS (a Wisconsin carrier) or ATT Wireless. When in a supposed TMobile coverage area, my phone does not switch to a different carrier. At school I am supposed to be in a TMobile area, but my coverage is marginal at best. My roommate has Cing...

T-Mobile's partnership agreement with AT&T and Cingular only applies in very specific areas. Here in Massachusetts there are many, many, areas where there is no T-Mobile coverage. I go into my phone and scan for available networks and sometimes see either AT&T or Cingular (indicating that there is a signal for those providers available), however if I try to connect to them I get a "no system access" message. I asked T-Mobile about having the Cingular and AT&T as fallback in areas where T-Mobile doesn't have coverage and they said that is only in very specific areas. Most of the time be prepared that if you don't have a T-Mobile signal, you are not going to have any coverage. T-Mobile has recently stated that instead of expanding coverag...

On the other hand, my friend was sitting in my living room cursing his Verizon phone for no service at all and I always have at least four bars--Verizon is way overrated!
