Alltel buying again...

"The USA based, Alltel has agreed to purchase First Cellular of Southern Illinois, a locally owned wireless provider based in Mt. Vernon, Ill. First Cellular covers a population of 485,000 in 24 Illinois counties and its network includes major transportation corridors connecting population centers in St. Louis, Chicago, Indianapolis and Evansville, Ind., and Louisville, Ky.. With this all-cash transaction, Alltel will add wireless operations that complement its growing presence in the Midwest.

The company says that it has more than 10 million wireless customers. "

With First Cellular having a CDMA network, it makes sense since it integrates better into their existing network than a TDMA or GSM network, though it looks like there is some GSM coverage as well, since First Cellular sells some GSM phoneslike Sony Ericsson.

i agree. they seem to be doing well with purchases but we will have to see if they can do well organically.
