Hi Everyone,

I'm curious if anyone has called/emailed Motorola lately to see what their estimated release is? I haven't been on top of the phone for the past few weeks, so I don't know what todays estimated release date is.

Also - for those of you familiar with blue tooth, I recently went out and purchased a $250 blue tooth keyboard/mouse combo. I'm wondering what the benefits of this are with the upcoming phone, if any? I'm assuming I'll be able to easily tranfer photos and videos. I'm trying to prep for bluetooth. Unfortunatly, that's the only bluetooth device I have and I'm not sure if I'll be getting any more, as I really don't have the use for a bluetooth PDA. What about bluetooth printers? I'm looking into a nice color lase...

Ah Martha, here are some rumored dates. July 1, 6, or when hell freezes over.

I'm looking into a nice color laser printer, but if the speeds are worse, I'll just get an old fashioned cable to connect my printer. It's not like I'd be using it with a lap top anyways.

Sorry guys I know this isn't on topic but, to Martha the hp2510 printer works great with wireless capable compters and laptops. Seems to be faster transmission than with a cable. Sorry again guys.

Dear Martha,

You might remember Rich talked a little about the V710 in his Day 2 report of CTIA 2004.

https://www.phonescoop.com/articles/ctia_2004/index. ... »

He mentioned that "OBEX is unfortunately not supported, meaning the phone can't easily exchange things like contacts, photos, and ring tones via Bluetooth." As I understand it OBEX is the predominant protocol for laptop/PDA/phone interfacing. (Keep me honest here guys, if you've heard this isn't the case.) Therefore it seems like the only benefit of bluetooth is the hands free usage for cars and wireless headsets? Anyone care to add 2 cents to this comment?

I keep seeing the whole OBEX issue qualified with "EASILY." What does that mean? That there's a way to do it, but it won't be "EASY"? Who's definition of easy?

"Easily" means those who want "push a button and make it so" functionality should look else where. As is mentioned in the phone specs the V710 supports "handsfree, headset, and dial-up-networking profiles" each of these is a protocol for a specific type of interfacing. Handsfree and headsets being self explanatory and dial-up networkin...

You can also use it for internet access from a PDA or laptop through Bluetooth. Which is one of the main reasons why it's looking like it's worth the upgrade from my aging StarTac.

Not to burst anybody's bubbles, but I wouldn't bank on there being any particularly good way to force the v710 to have OBEX functionality without the cooperation of Motorola and Verizon. I've been seeing p...

Too true. Granted, someone will probably figure it out eventually. Also think about the primary carrier. Verizon wants no easy access to a laptop since that would thwart them charging for sending pictures/video. In fact, for those out there who have the v710 already, what can you do with the computer data cable accessory?

I agree. Creating software on the PC to load ringtones, wallpapers, games, etc is a little bit different from changing the firmware on a phone. I know that people on HowardForums have been updating the firmware and "flexing" their Motorola GSM phones like the V300/V400/V500/V600 but I don't think this can be easily done with a CDMA phone like the V710. As far ...
