There was a post on HowardForums that stated all Cingular world phones are unlocked. Can anyone who works for Cingular verify this outlandish statement?

I have only tried v600 and v400 with other sims, and they are not locked. Both are quad band.

Is there a specific model you want to know about?

I am interested in the V3, but am checking the status of other phones to see if Cingular will follow suit with this new phone.

As a follow up question, aprout, on your v600/400 did the data functions work with the other sims also, or just the voice related functions. i.e. were you able to use you MMS functions properly?

thanks for you help.

I only tried voice, you may have to change settings for others(data, mess) as the settings are usually delivered to and stored on the phone, not on the sim.

I have a V600 as well as a V400 that I bring with me to Europe and Africa. Both work fine in these regions with other sims. I have only tried mms in Europe. works fine so far.

I just got a memo today saying they will be locking ALL phones. If it's true they've been offering them unlocked, and they stick to their word, it looks like they're going to stop offering unlocked phones here pretty soon (current crop of phones excepted).

I know it's a pain, but unlocking phones isn't very difficult. There are some good companies, like gsmlocker.com, which can unlock just about anything.

BTW - can you scan and e-mail or fax the memo to me?
