Motorola RAZR V3
MPT 2.0 or 3.0?
MUCH better but...i am supposed to be able to create ringtones using any cd. I can but when i try to transfer it to my V3, i get an unsupported format error message. whats up with that??
As I posted earlier, I bought MPT 2.0 w/ BT adapter and it works great, much better than previous appliactions I've used (TrusSync, etc...). I highly recommend buying it from Malcom Wireless on Pricegrabber.
After install, just run live update from the application menu several times (until it says you're up to date) and you'll have 3.11 installed.
Is there any key difference between 2.0 and 3.0, such as in the hardware, that would cause me to purchase one versus the other? Or should I just buy based on price and availability, since I assume I'm going to update to 3.11 during the install in either case?
Do you assume that if it supports some other moto phone (which one?) that it will work ok with the v3?
Thanks!
I ordered the "Bluetooth USB PC Adapter PLUS Mobile PhoneTools 2.0 CD ROM - 98575" from Malcom Wireless, are you saying that it won't work with the V3?

I'm a bit confused. Didn't you say 2.0 doesn't support the V3, but yet you are now saying that it works great?

Sorry for the confusion, you got the correct kit, but you will need to use the live update feature to upgrade it to 3.11 (there's no charge for the upgrade). After you install it, hit "cancel" when you see the "choose a profile" box. Cancel again for the connection choice box, and choose menu->setup->update. You will do this twice to get to 3.11.
Good luck...
Also is the bluetooth version slower than the cable for net connections?
thanks
This thread is confusing and unclear as to whether or not version 2.0 works.
Anyone? Please!
If you get 2.0, you will use the live update feature in the menu to update to 3.11. It's a free update...
Now which phone gets selected since V3 isn't on the list???!!??!

Is the data connect cable just any usb to 5 pin mini B connector? I already have a belkin 5 pin mini b usb cable. Will this do?
Good question, but one that I cannot answer. Try it and see, post your results...
Call Motorola support and ask as you don't need a registered product to get these answers, or the driver if they have it...
Pardon my momentary snap but why the heck didn't Moto and Cingular include a piece of software and data cable with this phone???!! 👿
For a $500 phone that cost them less than $100 to make and distribute they certainly could have.
Here is what I did to make MPT work.
-downloaded 2.0 version of MPT from BVRP.com
-could not at ANY point select the V3 as a phone option.... believe me I tried many combinations of things to get this to happen but it NEVER did. however the software did automatically update itself to a higher version in 2.0 (never got to 3.0)
-selected the Moto A830 phone(go figure)
-completed the download and plugged in my USB data cable in laptop and to my V3
WALLA! SUCCESS! THE...

However, while installing the drivers for the wireless device, it hangs up (I"m using Windows 2K), and it never finishes, so I have to reboot.
Unfortunately, since the driver cannot be installed, therefore the product is useless to me.
What a waste.

Very strange. I'm running Windows 2K and after I installed from the CD, ran live update twice to get to 3.11, and the Bluetooth installed without a hitch.
Did you follow their instructions and plug in the BT adapter until after you selected the Bluetooth connection and the dialog box popped up?

Get Real! It is now 2004 and almost 2005 and you are still running Windows 2000? Get with the times and get XP and your problem will be solved.
