I have a Razr V3 and just installed mobile phone tools 3.11, when I select the find me option on the phone and select the search for devices option on the phone tools it just keeps searching and searching but never finds the phone. I am using the Motorola Bluetooth USB adapter that came with the phone tools. My pc has connected with the phone so I know it can work but the phone tools will not connect with it. Any help?

The problem is the modem driver you are using. If your PC was able to connect with the phone before you installed MPT then you should use the modem used by your system and not the Motorola one. You might actually have to uninstall the modem ( in Device Manager it should say something like Standard Modem over Bluetooth Link ) and reinstall in order for MPT to recognize it. To change the modem in MPT press F6 and on the second tab ( Communications ) under modem settings click on change modem. Hope this helps...

Okay, I think I kind of understand what you are saying so I uninstalled the standard modem over bluetooth link and when I go to the connections tab in F6 and change the modem the only options I have are "other device" and "Agere systems PCI soft modem #2". So after clicking ""Agere systems PCI soft modem #2" it goes to a driver detection wizard that says the device was detected but not identified and lets me pick the V3 from a list which then takes me to the finish screen that says connection to Agere systems PCI soft modem #2, COM PORT: TAPI modem. But I still cannot get the mpt to detect the phone. By the way I can get the computer to detect the phone in the Add Bluetooth Device Wizard, but it will not allow me to access any options or any...

I need to reinstall the standard modem over Bluetooth link as I have uninstalled it but I don't know how to do that. I tried reinstalling the mobile phone tools but I still just have the one Agere modem when I try to change the modem on mpt. Anybody know how I can get the standard modem over Bluetooth link reinstalled?

Now that your MPT is up to date ( version 3.11 ) reinstall the Bluetooth modem. The Agere PCI modem is the wrong one to use since that is your regular 56K modem. So after you reinstall your Standard modem over Bluetooth link go into the communicatons tab and pick the newly installed modem. MPT should detect the phone.

I was having exactly the same problem. After checking the device settings (which looked OK to me), I opened MPT, went to the communication settings and selected "Change Modem". The correct was was already selected. When I clicked the next button, it initiated a configuration process. After that was completed, MPT connected immediately to my phone.

Though I was not the original poster, the information you provided was very helpful to me as well. Thanks!

Since I have a V551 as well as a V3, MPT sometimes seems confused when I switch from one phone to the other. It seems to lock up while it is searching for the phone. I found that if I open MPT and THEN plug in the phone, MPT finds the phone right away.
try that.

You think you have problems? Try it with a non-mortorola usb adapter. 😕

I had to uninstall and reinstall both the adapter and mpt3.11 THREE times before I finally found the right combination to get it to work.

The trick for me was to install the adapter software first, but not the adapter itself. Reboot.

Then I installed mpt3.11. Reboot.
THEN finally I plugged the adapter into the usb port, and it all finally worked.

WinXP wants to hijack the adapter before mpt can configure it. So you have to plug it in LAST.
