I just got a Razr with service from Cingular. I have unlimited Medianet service. How do I use my Razr as a modem over bluetooth so that I can surf the web on my Powerbook using OS 10.4?

Thanks for the help

First you need a program by Motorola called PhoneTools. This will provide you with the software interface for your PC (i.e. laptop) to use with your cell phone made by Motorola. This program then uses settings from your cell phone to access the web service provided by your wireless provider. This is all of course after you've managed to bond (this is where the Bluetooth comes in) the cell phone with the PC. It works well for me but a little finicky. Good luck.

This would be great, but the original poster is not looking for a way to connect with a PC. He has a mac.

Yes, it would be great and it works great. There is a way to connect to Cingulars GPRS isp using a Mac. Due to restrictions on me due to the nature of my work I can not provide you the information.

Sorry to hear about the Mac problem and hopefully you'll find a way. Maybe you need to find a Mac Donalds with free WiFi. Good Luck.

To use the mobile phone as PC modem, do you also need to subscribe to data network as well or does it runs off the voice network? Data network subscription is not cheap!

From what I understand, you can, but it'll be at dial up speeds.

Cingular has several levels of pricing, from $5 to $20 per month in my region.

Just to share what I can for anyone who can use it:

To use the cell phone as a PC modem of sorts you do not need to subscribe to the unlimited data plan such as a business would do. This is also what I was under the impression of at first. What you need is the unlimited MediaNet plan (from Cingular) unless you just desire to give large amounts of money to corporations for no reason. $20.00 extra a month on top of your normal plan charges but cheap compared to always having access to the internet, well, almost always. It does not work in some areas of the Caribbean, okay, most areas. I do travel extensively and it works very well in the back roads of NC all the way into the mountains - down to the beach. I have even used it quite wel...
