Sony Ericsson S710a
*sigh* Thinking of jumping ship
I'm starting to get tired of waiting for this phone. Especially when I see other mostly comparable phones out there. Has anyone used a Nokia 6230? It looks like it has all the same features as the s710a, except it has a VGA camera, and a smaller, less color screen. However, it does have an FM radio, and the ability to take MMC cards. Amazon has 512MB MMC cards for like 55 bucks!
I'm also starting to worry about the size of this phone :/ I think it's gonna be a brick. I will not carry my phone anywhere but in my pocket. I've gotten spoiled by my T637. The 6230 is only 1mm bigger in width and height than the 637. And, 3mm in thickness. I'm starting to lose interest in the 1.3 MP camera, also, and think a VGA will be fine.

You have to admit, though. On paper, the 6230 is really feature-packed. It's very tempting. Plus, it's way cheaper than the s710a. It's $150 after MIR. While the sony is anywhere from 400 to 450, we still don't know.
Is a better camera and screen, but bigger form factor, and less featured phone worth $250 to $300 more? I don't knoe âšī¸

It's understandable to be getting frustrated, we all are.
In all honesty though, what does the 6230 have that's so special that the S710a doesnt? I mean yeah, they each have their ups and downs, but all in all I personally think the S710a is worth it.
With the 6230 you get FM radio and I suppose more memory and Series 60 OS. What else?

6230 uses MMC cards, which have support up to 2 gigs I think?? I think it uses the series 40 OS, but I'm not sure what that means.
I guess I thought that I was really psyched about the camera and the swivel in the s710a. But, the lack of Duo Pro support, the size, and the price fluctuation are starting to get to me. I'm starting to think that a VGA camera will be enough, and that what I really want is a phone/mp3 player first, with a camera second. The FM radio is appealing as well.
I think what I will do is wait until the s710a comes out and then compare them side-by-side. That is, if it comes out before 3/10 (30 day trial period).

Here's a comparison photo of the T610/T637 and the S710a. Yes, the S710a is slightly thicker, but not by all that much.

Thanks, guys. You have restored my faith. I will wait until it comes out and make my decision then. Truthfully, I have really fallen in love with this T637, and it's only been 5 days. I love the size, the menus, the quality, etc. I had a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach about the 6230 not living up to my expectations.

That's the best thing to do, just wait til the S710a comes out, try it along with the 6230 and make your decision then. Whichever way you go, good luck! And let us know what you got when you do.
And I didn't see that picture, but that P910 is gigantic compared to the rest of them. My dad has it and its not that big, but then again next to my T637 it is.

my problems with the T637:
1) the screen scratches soooo easily.
2) the camera sucks so bad.
overall, yah, i loved that phone. when i started a new plan on the 9th i couldnt grab one, so i'll be pimping a v551 tomorrow until the s710a comes out.

Yeah, really, she's right. From pictures the size of the S700i/S710a looks a tad bit extreme. But once I had my friends S700i in hand, it's not all that bad, in all honesty it's not bad at all.

Just hang in there, it'll be out shortly. I can just see it now, you'll get your 6230 and I'm sure you'll be pleased with it. But then you'll get your hands on an S710a from somewhere and you'll be wishing you had waited. It could happen. Just hang in there, it'll be okay đ

The way I see it, if you really wanted the 6230 and not the S710a you wouldn't be making this post, instead you'd already have the 6230, that's just what I think.
I mean, why do you REALLY want the 6230? Is it because you like the features and the phone overall OR is because you can have it right away, unlike the S710a. Think about it before you make a decision you may regret later.
If you truly want the 6230, want it for the phone, don't want it because you can have it right away. Whichever path you choose to take, I hope it works out for you in the best possible manner and I wish you all the luck with your new phone, whichever one it may be đ

Honestly - if you carry your phone in your pocket all the time then this will likely be too big for you to be comfortable with and you should find something smaller that you like.

Well, I think if they've been waiting this long they should keep waiting cause they obviously have been waiting for something. Peolple are just getting tempted by availablility, and then once the S710a came out (if ever) they'd be back here saying how they wish they had waited and so on and so on.
