Verizon updating the software??

If Verizon "does" update there software for the phone, for an example "let us use mp3s as ringtones", does that mean we have to go to our nearest Verizon store to get the latest update or will the phone automatically have it?

Or, will this ever happen???

In past forums on other phones it was reported that VZW is unable to do a 'flash firmware update' over the air, so unless that changed you will have to go into a store. Most likely it will happen, all of the high end phones released by VZW in the past year have had at least one update. Question is: will it help, how much and what consequences will there be.

Never had any of my previous phones updated. What are some phones that have been updated in the past and what were those updates? Just curious? 🙄

VX8000, Moto V710. The V710 had at least two updates, the 1st one crippled the phone further the 2nd I don't know. VX8000 forums refer to update but I don't have the phone so can't confirm.

The 8000 is up to Version 5 of the software. My 2nd LG had version 4 and it wouldn't accept the Version 5 upgrade. The 3rd one they sent me had 5 on it but wouldn't play V-Cast clips kept losing EV signal.

You have to take the phone into the store.

I was thinking more of a line of using the Mp3s as ringers? Thats all im worried about. Do you think future updates might enable me to do this?? 🙄

No, Verizon will not do this since it would ruin their plans of charging people $2-$3 per song to download it via MOD.

What I would like to know is, if they disabled it so people will have to use MOD and pay for songs, why was it not disabled on the e815 too? The MP3 player is not a big thing to me and I have put songs on my 8100 after finding out how to do it on this forum, but just really curious why they wouldn't do it to both phones???????????? Anyone know?????????????

...and the consensus on the Yahoo VX4400 Group forum was that up to Version 10 - great, but that Version 11 ruined a great phone. The lesson was, not to be an early adopter of new releases (but someone had to - how else would the rest of the VX4400 owners known to stay away from Version 11 if I hadn't let Verizon ruin my phone with it!!)
