Samsung SCH-i730

Here's a silly question: where is the microphone located on the i730? Does the unit have to be slid open to talk into this baby? Let's say I dial a number on the keypad - can I then slide it shut and talk?

Speaking to VW Business reps and speaking to customer service/supervizor on phone, I have two different answers to same question.

If I get the Samsung i730, can I connect the pda device to my laptop and use the 44.95/mo. unlimited plan rather than (wireless card) unlimited access paying 79.99/mo.?

Basically the business rep says that software will not allow this because they VW will see that you are using a cheeper unlimited connection and makes you pay same as if it were a wireless card.

The customer service/supervizor says that it is ok to get a pda device, connect to laptop, use 44.95/mo. and you don't need to pay anything above that and you will definetly get unlimited internet capability.

Can I put an end to this controvers...

I heard what pricing (FOR NOW) is going to be on the i730 today. A birdie flew in my window and told me.


Price with 2yr contract: $649.99

Price with 1yr contract: $699.99

Price at Full Retail: $769.99


Take it for what it's worth. Of course, VZW pricing is ALWAYS subject to change as we all know. It could change the same day it's released, who knows.

Anyone know if the i730 will support windows mobile 5.0?

Also, another phonearena claims that it will have GPS. Its the only website I've seen with that statement. Any info on that?

I just heard that VW has to work out some bugs and software problems that the phone has. Not sure if this will delay the launch.

Can someone please explain the voice dial (VoiceSignal) implementation on this phone? What does speaker-independent mean?

My ideal would be to download all my ACT contacts and have the ability to voice dial anyone without recording the name for every contact. Is this just a dream?

Has anyone actually seen this phone that can comment on the size of the keys as compared to the chicklets on the Treo 650? For someone with large thumbs (like me), the Treo is useless.

Can anyone (maybe a VZW insider) give us an idea of when this phone will really be available?

I recently purchased an AudioVox VX6600 (not knowing about the i730) and I am nearing the expiration of the 15 day period. Despite some annoying quirks, the VX6600 is a nice phone - but the expected (and not confirmed) WI-FI support in the i730 is a compelling feature. [The protruding Sandisk 256 Mb SDI WI-FI is just not an option for me.]

I have to make a decision on whether to return the VX6600 or hold on to it. I've seen posts in this forum going back to March predicting the phone's imminent release ("next week") 3 months ago. VZW has a "Coming Soon" page that seems to have been there for a while.

So, I would really appreciate some advic...

For everyone in the NYC area who is curious to touch and play with the i730 I went to the samsung experience store at the AOL-Time Warner mall on Columbus circle and they have a i730 there you can use. Don't expect to get any information out of the staff they don't know much but it was a pleasure to hold one in my hand and use. Makes me want it even more.

Currently I own a Motorola V710 on Verizon's network. I also own a Dell Axim PocketPC. I Connect to the Internet (VZW National Access) via bluetooth to the V710. In the past I owned a Samsung i700 and also connected to the National Access network for internet. In both cases, I have been using minutes from my calling plan (as opposed to paying $45 extra per month for service). I figure free minutes on nights and weekends and rarely use it during day, so why pay the extra fee?

So my question is, can I configure the i730 to connect to VZW's EVDO service using MINUTES from my calling plan (like I did with i700 to National Access)and not have to pay the $80 a month extra?

If so, then I would rather bump my minutes plan up for an extra $20 ...

I was looking at kingston.com for memory and they already have the phone listed!!!!

Hi there... I'm a long-time Sprint customer and I'm interested in moving to a PDA phone soon to be able to check/write e-mail from my POP3/SMTP servers. I currently have a $50 a month plan from Sprint which gives me 300 minutes, with free nights/weekends and unlimited Internet access, although Internet access probably eats up minutes during the week.

I've looked around on the Verizon wireless web site and can't figure out what I would need to get if I picked up the i730 to get similar service on Verizon's network.

Can someone help me out with what plan(s) I need and what price they are? I want to be sure I can use the phone anywhere in the states, have free night/weekends, at least 300 minutes (if not more), and free access to the In...

Sorry just wishful thinking.

I saw a few posts confirming blackberry feature on this phone. Where do people get this info? Other then this site, nobody states this. Nothing on verizon info pages mentions this. These manuals and other pdfs that recently surfaced do not mention this. I know there was talks of RIM letting other manufacturers use their software, but that didn't happen yet, did it?

I was wondering if anyone has a clue about bluetooth compatibility with new Lexus vehicles?

I am considering the i730 but see that blackberry is also a very nice technology piece. I have done some research on the blackberry and really do not see that much of a difference then what I would get from the i730.


My understanding of the major "advantage" for blackberry is that email finds you rather than getting online and checking it on your phone. (email is housed on different server).

Is that the only advantage over the i730? Or is there a function on the i730 that pretty much provides the same functionality?


Are there any critical features in blackberry technology that I should consider before considering the i730?
