Samsung SPH-A640
Uploading pix from a640 directly to↨pc
Am thinking of buying a Samsung A640, and the *only* thing I want to do with photos is get them onto my PC for editing, printing and emailing. Don't want to buy Web access for the phone. Don't want to print directly via PictBridge. Have no Bluetooth wi-fi on PC, don't want to go that way. That leaves USB, I think. Both machines have USB capabilities. So what software and/or drivers would I need? Seems to me this oughtta be fairly simple. Here's PC specs:
HP Media Center A1240n
Windows XP Media Center Edition v.2002sp2
and for the camera:
Bluetooth Supported Profiles: HSP, HFP, DUN, OPP (vCard only)version 2.0
Infrared (IR) - no
PC Sync - no
SDIO - no
USB Yes
Wi-Fi - no
Don't know much at all about Bluetooth. Could it be...

Contact capacity is bogus
In the Samsung A640, TWO contact entries are consumed when there are both phone numbers AND an email address. This is entirely ridiculous in a phone with memory management for variously-sized pictures, ringtones, web content, etc.
Samsung/Sprint claim of "up to 300 contacts" borders on a lie when they otherwise tout the phone as Internet capable.

iGO itip adapter for Samsung SPH-A640
Does anyone know which itip adapter for the iGO car charger fits this phone? I've gone to igo and searched and cannot find anything yet. I'm also looking for cool cases that are not $30 from Sprint/Radio Shack. I've checked around and there do not seem to be any out yet? Any idea how long it takes after a launch of a new phone to get the accessories out in the market? Thanks!

the CEO of sanyo should retire.... what a lame company.... not only behind on technology... but make insanely ugly phones.... and why copy a razr?! the thing is over a year old.... idiots.. make a phone that supports itunes or xm radio or something innovative.
Problems with heat?
Has anyone noticed that the back of the phone (where the battery is located) gets hot? It has happened with my phone & wondering if I got a bad one or if it just the way it is. This occurs after maybe 5 min or so of phone use.

Based on the C-Net review, the only thing that the Bluetooth on this phone can be used for is a headset and a business card application.
So, it sounds like you can not send the pictures that you take with the camera to your computer via Bluetooth.
The last time I checked, with Sprint you need to have the Picture Pack option ($5/mo) to have the ability to send pictures over the internet. You will also pay for data usage when sending pics if you don't have a vision plan.
That whole picture situation is one thing I don't like about Sprint. I just got a Samsung d407 on Cingular and it allows you to send your pictures via BT. Also, Cingular lets you send individual pictures by multi-media-messaging for 25 cents each when you don't have...

Sorry about the quality
Thanks to Amtrak, I was a full 90 minutes late for the event last night. That didn't leave me with as much time as I had hoped with the new phones. That's why there aren't as many details or photos as we usually try to put in our In Depth articles.
Also, my Canon camera is busted, so I was stuck with my crappy backup camera. That's why the photos aren't quite as good quality as we usually strive for.
I hope the article still provides some useful info and eye candy for folks.

I'm still waiting for Sanyo to catch up with Samsung and get (micro)SD, Bluetooth and EVDO all in one great package...
My Samsung a920 works ok, but won't sort my SMS messages into folders. And it won't let me add words to the T9 feature, which includes some useful common spanish words but misses a few obvious English ones. Starting movies takes about 15 seconds longer on the a920 than the Sanyo 5600, and if you get a call while watching, well, get ready to start the movie over. After you get done fast-forwarding up to where you left off, at least it has a rewind button to correct when you skip too far, unlike the Sanyo. But every time I've used it like this, its frozen the player, and I had to take the battery off to reset the phone. ...
