Verizon Wireless snaps up West Virginian GSM carrier

Verizon Wireless announced it purchased rural carrier West Virginia Wireless for an undisclosed sum. Verizon Wireless said it will spend the next 15 months converting the rural carrier’s GSM network to CDMA technology.

The spectrum licenses that make up part of West Virginia Wireless’ assets cover 1.2 million people in 22 West Virginia counties, five counties in Kentucky, three in Virginia and two in Ohio. That area includes two interstate corridors as well as the Greenbriar resort in White Sulpher Springs and Marshall University in Huntington, W.V.

Verizon Wireless will serve its new customers under the West Virginia Wireless name for the time being. The national carrier said that it had offered employment to all West Virginia Wireles...

Bolting VZ 5 months before 2yr contarct ends?

I'm an 8 year loyal user of VZW. I have two lines with them on a family shared plan.

Unfortunately due to job requirements I have to change one line to Cingular. This line has 5 months before my 2 year contract expires.

1. Will I still have to pay the whole $175 fine or it can be prorated? If not, is there way to somehow talk VZW out of this (I'm still retaining another line, I was loyal, etc.)?

2. I will have to port the number to Cingular. What will happen with second line which's on a same Family plan for $9.99/mo. Will it "assume" full ownership of the plan or I have to do something else?

I'll appreciate any help. Thanks!

WinMob 6 Pro on i730?

I dropped my 8910 in the snow today and I am in the process of lettiing it dry out, but I was looking to get a new phone now anyway.

The Samsung i730 is the cheapest PDA phone (besides the smartphones 😛 ) plus it has wifi and i've heard its great. But it only has 2003. When 6 Pro comes out, can I upgrade it to 6 for free?

Warrant Issued for Verizon's Arrest

Just before Poodleman filed a motion to seize Verizon's property, he received a check from the company.

The refund is the long-awaited conclusion to the saga that began when Verizon double-billed Poodleman, ruined his credit, lied about not receiving his letters, and refused to fix their mistake. So he sued Verizon in small claims court, and won.

When Verizon didn't show for the follow up payment review, the court issued a capias, or bench warrant, authorizing Verizon's arrest.

Perhaps it was better for everyone involved that Verizon paid Poodleman, as it might have been a bit difficult for the sheriff to arrest an entire company.

Full scan of warrant for Verizon's arrest, inside...

Poodleman writes:

Hey Army!

Got the 8300 tethered via the data cable, couldnt get the bluetooth connection to work, but no biggie, thanks a lof for those links by the way.

One more question for you (or anybody else for that matter), I know that I should know this but by thethering it does it just use your minutes (nights and weekends free?)

Obviously blatent excessive use of this would cause trouble so I will avoid it.

National Access

When I had my Motorola V710 I could use a mobile office kit and connect to the internet. It just used my airtime. Verizon touted this feature and for selling more kits/accessories.

Now fastfoward to today. What phones are capable of doing this? I know with the EVDO phones you must subscribe to a tether plan. What about the V325? The kit advertises that it will connect to the National Access network. Will it do this old school, using just the airtime?

Thanks in advance!

Nokia reprogram question for Verizon

I'm a noob - sorry if this has already been covered. I've been waiting with my NE2 money for two months for Verizon to come out with a candybar phone. They haven't released anything worth buying in that form. Is there a way to buy a Nokia 6275 from Canada, and reprogram/unlock it, in order to make it compatible with Verizon's network? I see that it uses the same frequencies as Verizon phones. Plus, Verizon hasn't been very helpful with what will be released in the near future 😈 . My old Nokia 6015 just made a short voyage in the ocean and now it's screen won't light up. Thanks.
