Use of Phone as Dial-Up Modem -- Voice Time or Data Time?
Many moons ago, I had a cell phone that could attach to my laptop and act as a modem. The laptop would, in effect, dial the number for an access point (e.g. and internet dial-up provider, or my company's direct dial-in ports).
I haven't done that in years. However, I am interested in knowing if I *can* do that without being on a data plan -- just using normal air time (which would be free on nights and weekends). Of course, it would be much slower than a data connection, but it would be a functional backup when I have no DSL or Cable ISP available.
If so, what equipment do I need to enable this on a Nokia 6650 Fold or a Nokia E71?
Thanks ...

Hopefully TEXASWIRELESS can answer me this...
wow that was long winded and pointless, but I do like my research (using a British accent, because I think it adds to the ambience with the smoking pipe and smoking jacket that I have on, but not really).
I am curious that if I go ahead and get the iphone, with the 900 minute plan and the data, and unlimited text (I do like to text my heart out) what would it run me after taxes.

Wow, check out the preperations ATT is taking for the inaugaration. . . 70-80% increase in capacity!
Seems like an impressive effort to maintain network capacity to me.
Here's the full article, I thought it was an interesting read:

Using an unlocked Nokia E71 on AT&T?
1. As it has Wi-fi, I assume that means I can use the phone to connect to the internet via my home wireless router (or those at various public places) without having to purchase a data plan..?
2. I assume that AT&T will not REQUIRE that I purchase a data plan, just because the phone has data capability.
3. Does the GPS feature work (in any useful manner) without having to pay for a m...

BB Bold & BB Alerts
So I'm wondering if I can adjust the settings of BB Alerts from there rather than opening up the app and doing it from there?
Also under the sound settings (you know, enhanced, more bass, more treble) what's 'previous'?
I assume it means what the user previously had it set at. Like if I adjust the volume with the rocker switch, with 'previous' selected that's where the volume would stay.
To the people of at&t
One day I thought to myself, "maybe I'll try at&t" so I got a prepaid phone and tried them out. I never got text messages. I called it in and they told me it was my fault. I yelled at them and they patched me in to someone else. I told them my problem and they said tough. So I thought maybe they just had a bad day. I tried later and the lady that could actually speak english got me a free text package but it didn't fix the problem. I thought I would keep giving at&t a chance. They took over a local company that used unlocked phones in my area. The people there have been lying to them saying that their unlocked phones will no longer work and that they need to switch their plans asap.
I did...

Is at&t really stooping to this level??
Timothy Butler over at OFB did some sleuthing and found that AT&T is downgrading its EDGE/2G service to the weaker 1900 MHz band. Their response to those with newly-lousy service? Buy a new phone.
EDGE/2G was previously using the 850 MHz band, which compared to the new 1900 MHz offered superior coverage, especially indoors. The switch, as confirmed by AT&T sources, is designed to boost the network's 3G coverage, but that leaves many users of previously functioning phones, including the original iPhone, with worse service, especially in rural areas. An AT&T PR representative, as well as several customer service reps, offered the same solutio...

Long time Verizon customer considering switching
Thanks.
BB Bold, OUCH!
The phone is married to what is quickly becoming the worst wireless network in the U.S. – AT&T. The high number of dropped calls and slow 3G speeds have dampened the joy of using Bold in the brief time I have tested device, which is a shame, because it is the Audi A8 of smartphones: good-looking, durable, easy to use and a texter’s delight. It would be perfect on Verizon’s EVDO network.
😳
The above is from a review of the BB Bold back in November I came across researching the Bold.
Here's a link to the actual review.

Make it or Break It......THIS COULD BE THE YEAR..........
It is 2009. If AT&T wants to set the tone for the new year, they do have a chance. Every year people look forward to new phones being released and this year is no different.
So, the question is. Will AT&T release or sign up to carry any "Real" type of mobile devices.
We all know who makes the best mobile devices and where they are located, and not to mention if you want to buy one and use it in the United States....It will cost you about 300.00 to 800.00 dollars.
Well, If AT&T wants to crush the competition and steal the market, they CAN. They have a great network, they have a great product and now it is type the step up their game and show the American Consumer what a REAL phone can ...
