WCDMA = Wideband Code Division Multiple Access or Wideband CDMA.. So just because they are now using GSM towers to place CDMA networks over them don't mean they Are GSM. But GSM phones will be able to use them like they would use GSM tower without CDMA.
But in time GSM phone will no longer being made.
And CDMA will be every where.

2) Since I'd rather pay for a cable once, and sync as much as I wan...

On line dealers vs ATT on line, or ATT retail walk in...
There were some pretty good deals on the carrier web sites ($150/phone after rebates), but I am tired of waiting for them to come back, and I'm not paying $600 - $900 for three phones.
Now that I have been cruising around on the web, I have found many better deals, such as $0 with rebates, $100 (buy.com), etc. All seem to be affiliates of Inphonic. Other bonuses include 1 year commitments, and in some cases, free or deeply discounted accessories.
The only drawback I can see is the $36 activation fee (for 3 phones - $108 ), vs free on AT&T's web site. Still - even at the best carrier direct prices I've seen, that's...

Not eligable for number portability??? Is that psosible?
I just got an email that says the dealer can't ship my phone because:
"...you are currently not eligible to transfer your existing phone number to AT&T Wireless...
You may become eligible to transfer your existing phone number at a later date. Click here to register for Wireless Local Number Portability - when it becomes available in your zip code, we will notify you by email with the offers in your area!"
What the heck is that all about. I thought number portability was a done deal back in November. I live in a major metro area (between Baltimore and Washington, and was already told once that my numbers could port (can't remember, bu...
