Motorola MPx220

Hi,

I am new to the MPX220. I just bought and love it. I am ready to edit and customize it now. I first tried editing / creating my own theme. I looked like I got it to work, but after reboot everything is back to normal. It seems the files and /Windows folder are un-editable. What do I need to do? Thanx in advance.

Does any one know if there is a way to the speaker phone function work with the lid closed. The manual doesn't seem to mention it at all. Actually, the manual is useless!!!

Is this phone worth buying or is it not that great i am trying to find me a new phone and i currently have a 7610 and 6620 but i sold the 6620 and my g/f has my 7610 is this phone better then those other nokia phones 🙂

This is a great little registry editor that works well. You need to be connected - best by USB cable -- you can edit the registry direct from your PC. Helped me get rid of the annoying startup/shutdown sounds.

Does anyone else have this problem:

My internet works great for a while, and sometimes I'll pick up my phone and I can't get any connection. IE, MSN Messenger, ActiveSync. None work when they usually do. If I power off then turn it back on they all work fine again. This happened on both firmware sets I had (.342, 1.3). Is this a Cingular issue?

Anyone have this problem, or any ideas?

Ok, got the MPx220 about 3 weeks ago. Was pretty happy initially but ran into some problems: the biggest thing was after about 1 week - sometimes when I would flip the phone closed the power would shut off. Then the power started shutting off very randomly. Well, I thought this may a be a software glitch but looked at it a little closer and it seemed to be a short in the phone or battery.

Well, I am now on my 2nd MPx220 (cingular is really good about swapping it out) and have had no problems whatsoever yet.

Just wondering if anyone else has had the power problem. One thing I noticed is maybe about 3 or 4 times with my 1st phone - I would sometimes get and error message saying that the backup battery needs to be replaced - My 1st p...

I've got the free registry editor installed, but I haven't found any good references for what's what. This is not something I want to just muck around with and explore, for obvious reasons.

In particular, I'd like to find where I might change the default snooze from 5 minutes to something different.

Also, the "backup" function doesn't seem to work, but the "export" function does. Should that be okay for backing up the registry?

Of course, I say the export function works only because it didn't explicitly say it failed, but it seems to have crashed the phone. Joy. Pitching the damn thing in the river any minute now...

It's almost like clockwork. Does anyone else have problems with the person on the other end of the line suddenly not being able to hear you? I can hear them.

Sometimes it happens at right at the beginning of the call. Doesn't matter if it's on headset or not.

Also, I'm having serious reception problems, like barely a usable signal for a four or five-mile stretch along a fairly major street on the North Side of Chicago.

Seriously, I'm *this* close to pitching this phone in the river.

i wish to travel to indonesia. do they use gsm there? if so since the mpx220 is locked to cingular this means i cant buy a pre-paid sim card right?

Is it possible to delete the Cingular Logo for a faster startup? My phone takes about one minute to turn on and a long period of that is the cingular logo. Or is there any other way to make this phone startup faster?

Will the MPx220 work with mMode as well or only Media Net on the Cingular side?

All, I have followed all instructions to get my phone to access my gmail account to no avail. Has anyone else gotten it to work (recently)? If so, perhaps I missed something. I've set up gmail to enable pop/smtp access, and think I have all the proper settings in my MPx's inbox account.

Please let me know.

I was wasting time in Best Buy last night and stumbled upon this case. It's pretty fancy and fits my MPX220 pretty nicely. It's about time someone made a case FOR this phone.

The charger plug now goes in so loose into the cheap ass charger socket that it cannot make contact unless I "tweak" it to one side or another and keep it tweaked so that it can charge. This is the first phone that has ever given me trouble with this. I bought it at Best Buy and Lockline would not insure it. I have not gone to Cing yet but can just imagine what a ride I am in for. Any suggestions?

Both my corporate voicemail and my home voicemail can send messages as wav file attachments in emails. I am trying to set this phone to both receive the email, and play the attachment. Neither works as I would like. I set the email up using outlook, but it has to go out and look for the emails, and the minimum interval is 15 minutes. My friend has a treo on Cingular which gets his emails immediatly... Anyway, I guess I can live with the delay, but I can't seem to get the files to play... I get the attachment, but it just won't play, and the phone doesn't offer any error message. The wav file is compressed using CCIT U-Law. Is this the problem? Are there any aftermarket audio players that can be installed that will play that?

they say this thing is compatible with A2DP, commonly found in bluetooth 1.2 devices. So, is the mpx220 bluetooth 1.2, or just 1.1?

Does anyone know how to assign or change the default image shown for photo callerID? Right now, if the caller isn't in my contacts list, I get a silhouette of a person as my photo callerID. I'd like to change that to something else, or perhaps even remove any such photo so that the whole screen is used for the phone number, etc. if the caller isn't in the contacts list.

I sent my unlocked Best Buy Cingular branded MPX220 in for warranty service. They replaced it with a refurbished locked Cingular branded MPX220. Only problem, I was using an ATTWS SIM. Motorola says they can't unlock it, Cingular says they won't unlock it, ATTWS says only Cingular can do it. No services offer MPX220 unlocking on ebay (the only guy who advertises says he really can't once you email him). The sites that come up on google all are dead ends because once you go in there they really don't support the MPX220 or when I type in my IMEI it says, "not supported" because they only unlock Vodafone.

What am I to do? I give up! No more MOTOROLA! Any suggestions? I can always find codes for Nokias! All these shop owners are saying that M...

Hey, I have downloaded that registry editor to my pc, but I can't figure out how in the world to install it on my phone? With numerous other programs, I have downloaded to my pc, then active syn and then copy and paste the file onto my phone. Then use file manager and open that file and it installs.

I realize it isn't a .cab file, but I copied and pasted onto my phone both internal and storage card, but it won't do anything.

How do you install the program? Thanks in advance for your help. 😁
