SNL Kagan Releases New 10-Year Wireless Projections
Study forecasts that 84% of U.S. population will have mobile phones by end of 2007
Monterey, Calif. (Aug. 23, 2007) – In a just-released study, SNL Kagan estimates that 84% of the U.S. population, including consumer, business and double users, will have mobile phones by the end of 2007, with this percentage surging past 100% by 2013.
SNL Kagan's research also shows that U.S. cell phone subscriptions will grow at a rate of about 3% per year over the next decade versus total population growth of only 1%, despite decreasing net additions as 100% penetration is approached. If you live in the USA, probably not. Wireless devices here are generally "locked" by carriers so that they work only with that carrier's network and software applications.
In Europe, the situation is just the opposite: Phones are typically "unlocked," enabling wireless customers to switch carriers and applications with ease.
Unlocked phones, by definition, are based on GSM technology. Why? Only GSM devices use SIM cards tiny chips that relay user identification information to carriers.

Verizon to Release 8GB Music Phones by Year-End
Of course, I don't think they say whether that's 8GB internal, or if they're just gonna support 8GB mem cards or whatnot.
I personally don't care that much, 'cuz I'm gonna continue to use iPods (along with most ppl, prolly), but if you care about music on cellphones, looks like VZW is stepping up their game.
