Interesting Point of View

Had a conversation with a guy today in regards to the Tuesday press conference/BIG ANNOUNCEMENT. The guy is in wireless, just not the sales aspect of it at all.

He arrived at his conclusion based on ATT arguing with Apple on when their exclusivity agreement actually ends. ATT seems to think due to a metric that they have hit, it gives them until 2012 for exclusivity(again not something we know, but lawyers are involved on each side). If that is true, then perhaps Apple is going to launch a seperate phone on the Verizon network, something just as easy to use, that is running the same OS, but packaged differently. I remember a couple years back there was a rumor going around similar to this.

As far off as it sounds, its plausible. ...

Verizon Certified Pre-owned phones

I'm looking at phone upgrades on the Verizon website and see there are certified pre-owned phones. They are cheaper than the new phones, but have the same one year warranty. Verizon claims they are refurbed to "new" condition. Any thoughts about this? I realize we're not talking about saving a lot of money, but if the warranty is the same why not?

T-Mobile hspa+ VS Verizon LTE

Im looking for an articulate response on the comparison of T-Mobiles HSPA+ 21 and 42 Mbps 4g(ish) network and Verizons 4G LTE network. Im interested in the opinions but mostly the science on why one would be better both theoretically and in real-world situations.

Sounds pretty official to me!

CBS Radio news just reported at 8 pm this evening that an announcement regarding the availability of the iPhone on the Verizon network will be forthcoming on Tuesday. Looking forward to hearing what the company has to say!

How fast can u blow threw the 5gb cap on Verizon LTE?

32min! 😳

Netflix takes about 8 hours and Netflix HD takes about 3 hours. So if you do get it stay away from streaming content.

I was gonna take it for a test drive until saw this and I use personally use about 30gb a month. This is something any potential customer may wanna consider before signing a 2 year contract as a new 4g customer. 😎

NE2

I thought I read some where that Verizon was doing away with earlier than planned upgrades on the NE2 plan...Meaning I am due for an upgrade in March but I can upgrade in December.....Or are they doing away with the whole NE2 program altogether?

Thanks

Ok, we've heard the CES announcements...now what?

With all of the announcements today I think I'm more confused than ever. My NE2 is in play but I need to make a purchase before 1/16 to get 1 additional NE2 (according to what I've read on this forum). With all of that I think I'm back where I started; trading my BB Storm for a Moto Global 2. Sure it's not LTE cool but pretty much does everything I need it to do. And I get the benefit of not having to deal with new phone or network technology issues.

Tuesday Press Conference

Gizmodo has reported that there will be a press conference held on Tuesday, at which time they will announce the launch of an iPhone for the Verizon network.

So I guess if Tuesday comes and goes without an announcement either way, we can all still come here to argue. I for one am going back to just reading, it worked for the previous 7 years.

Upgrade policy changes

Has anyone heard about this? Apparently VZW is getting rid of annual upgrades and NE2's. I really hope this is just a rumor, with as quickly as phones change getting a new one yearly is almost necessary!

The change isn't supposed to happen until Jan 16, my annual upgrade is Jan 20, ****ty!

Saygus Vphone

Whatever happened to the Saygus Vphone? The realization that I am stuck with Verizon and my trusty LG-VX8100 as AT&T is not allowing new Unlimited Data plans for smartphones. Yep. I waited too long.

Motorola Droid Pro

Does anyone have an opinion about this phone? I swore I would never get a Motorola phone because of call quality and I've been using the Blackberry Bold the last 2 years. I need a physical qwerty key board, not really into touch screens, but this phone seems decent.

Question for Cell Student Regarding LTE and CDMA Tower Transceivers

Hi Cell Student,

I have noticed here in the Chicago area that Verizon has installed smaller LTE transceivers on its towers. Formerly there were 12 CDMA transceivers on each tower, 4 going in each direction, in a triangle shape. Now, there are 2 CDMA transceivers and 2 LTE transceivers going in each direction (2 times 3 sides), for a tower total of 6 CDMA and 6 LTE, which is half the CDMA of what it was. My question is, is the CDMA capacity of each tower diminished, and if so, is it by one-half?

Thanking you in advance,

JK

Verizon - Sign up now or wait

I was thinking of switching to Verizon b/c AT&T in my area keeps having network problems because of the iPhone data clog issue. I'm a Blackberry user and use mainly for email and some surfing. No video streams, downloads, etc. Just basic stuff.
Plus, network just doesn't seem to be keeping up to standards with VZW. Having said that, I was considering waiting for VZW's rollout of 4G LTE in my area and the Blackberry or should I sign up now using VZW's 3G service.

Question - are the calls on 4G much different than the 3G or does this mainly apply to data and calls aren't that much different between 3G and 4G?

Worth waiting?

Big question following my little blurb

Scenario - contract upgrade comes in this coming March. If I talk to the right rep, I might be LUCKY enough to get an early upgrade if I wanted to upgrade somewhere in Jan.

Question - If I am able to finagle an early upgrade with my rather fascinating negotiating skills, would the "soon to be coming HTC Thunderbolt" - from Engadget.com" worth the early upgrade? Or should I wait with the assumption something better will be available by March?

If this new phone is going to be anything like the HTC Evo, then hell yes.

Just food for thought, I am rocking the Droid Eris right now - rooted... and still sucks worse than a herpes break out on a first date. I could seriously light this phone on fi...

new phone with wifi hotspot

I am beginning to shop for my next phone. I am still using my old G'Zone type s. I love the 2 week battery life (after almost 4 years), the signal strength (I can get calls where no one else can), and clutzproofnes (I tend to put phones in the washing machine). I don't generally text.

I need a mobile hotspot. I have been using the mifi with unlimited usage from Virgin Mobile, but the customer service is so bad I have been without service for a month. I realize that I will loose my old phone plan with 300min./mo. And have to pay about 3x more than I am paying now for my phone service, but at least I will have service with Verizon.

The features that I am looking for are primarily a the wifi hot spot, and a phone that can be used ...

Loading Time for Applications

1.Could someone please explain to me why applications load so fast (even in a poor cell cite area) while my browser (yahoo) takes much longer to load onto my blackberry? Why are they different?

2. Also, could someone recommend the BEST and most USEFUL applications they have found for their Blackberry? I am especially interested in news, reading magazines, sports, and locating my car in a parking lot.

Thank you very much and Happy New Year to all!!

Upgrade Questions

Ready for a new every two upgrade here in a few days. I currently own a BB curve 8330, I use it for two email accounts, txt, and occasionaly surfing. I have two questions.

1. What does new every two give me? I have heard $50 off a phone and $100 off a phone. I am looking to upgrade to another smartphone either the BB Bold or a Droid if that makes any difference.

2. Do I go or do I stay with a BB? Really liking the Droid X a friend of mine has. Also interested in the Pro or even the R2D2 Droid.

Thanks for any help.
