A Serious Consideration

For the last six years, I have been a loyal Verizon customer without the slightest chance that I would not be anytime in the forseeable future. As of yesterday morning, that may possibly change.

My cellular employer, nTelos, based in Waynesboro, Virginia, just started selling at 9 am yesterday morning a new national plan with absolutely NO ROAMING CHARGES anywhere in the United States. It used to be on the older nationwide plan that as long as you were on that plan and a Sprint tower picked you up, you would have no roaming if you were off the nTelos network, but you would if you used anyone else's tower. The new plans give you a lot more minutes for the same money, include nationwide long distance and unlimited mobile to mobile. Text...

This is why verizon lost the iphone....

1. Their data is really expensive, the most in the industry. And to fully experience the iphone, you will need a data plan.

2. Bluetooth restrictions. Verizon has relaxed on this a little bit, but they are still more restrictive than other companies.

3. I know other people have said this, but GSM is a more widely used technology worldwide.

These are just a few of my ideas...I think this phone will eventually come to verizon, but as a mac user, I'm just happy to see them entering the world of cell phones. They can work out all the bugs on cingular's version and then we can get the updated one later!

Apple Lays An Egg ! ! !

Apple could have changed the cellular world by fighting to force the carriers to open their nets to any manufacturers phones from any source. Instead they strike an unholy alliance with Cingular ensuring the same old business model that has been used to screw customers and keep cellular networks as closed sources. Instead of competing against Nok, Mot, Sam, LG etc. on their home turf, Apple decided to play an away game which they will lose.

Apple will emerge a big loser. Using phones as music players was not gaining traction with the public. People still use separate MP3 player. The news of Apple phone will get the public used to the idea of using a phone as a music player, which will cut severely into traditional Ipod sales. The phone ap...

reasons why the I-phone will fail

It's brilliant, beautiful, groundbreaking. But there are a few serious hurdles Apple (AAPL) will have to clear if it wants to truly revolutionize the communications world with the iPhone it announced yesterday:

Price: As it stands now, the iPhone will cost $500 for a 4GB version and $600 for an 8GB version. That probably will place it among the most expensive phones and media players on the market. What's not clear, though, is whether those prices are before or after any subsidies Cingular might offer to get people to sign up for service plans. (Carriers typically discount phones by $200 or so to entice people to sign up for extended plans. If $500 and $600 are prices without a subsidy and service contract commitment, it could be a decent...

help with finding a new phone!

Right now I am trying to decide between a few phones. I originally thought about buying the treo because it woudl enable me to get rid of my palm pilot. I never thought of the enV until now. I know the enV is a smart phone, but can I sync with my mac (or palm program) and load my contacts, tasks, notes and calendar on it? If I dont get a smart phone, I am also considering the LG 860O, Motorola Slvr or Krzr.

All input is appreciated

Thank you!!! 😁

Cingular will need the iPhone to recover...

They will be dumping their name and going to AT&T Wireless once their parent company, AT&T, finishes buying out Bell South.

Wow!

They spent 4 billion on making the name known.... In 2007 they will spend 1 billion rebranding!

Oh, the 2nd largest carrier, Verizon Wireless, out sold them AGAIN last quarter to top 2 million added subscribers for 4th Quarter 2006.

Early news..I got that from my store owner this morning...Will have to wait and see for the actual numbers

Cisco Sues Apple for Trademark Infringement

Interesting article: Suit Filed to Protect Cisco's iPhone® Trademark

SAN JOSE, Calif., January 10, 2007 - Cisco® today announced that it has filed a lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Northern District of California against Apple, Inc., seeking to prevent Apple from infringing upon and deliberately copying and using Cisco's registered iPhone trademark.

Cisco obtained the iPhone trademark in 2000 after completing the acquisition of Infogear, which previously owned the mark and sold iPhone products for several years. Infogear's original filing for the trademark dates to March 20, 1996. Linksys, a division of Cisco, has been shipping a new family of iPhone products since early last year. On Dec. 18, Linksys expanded the...

Report: Apple to ‘touch off nuclear war’

"The world of desktop computing is finally going mobile, and the shift can be seen in the explosive growth of wireless data for cellular carriers," John Markoff reports for The New York Times.

"That shift may well be underscored [Tuesday] when Steven P. Jobs, the chief executive of Apple Computer, is expected to unveil an Apple phone representing his company’s new mobile communications strategy — highlighted by a device that may include Jobsian refinements such as a sleek ceramic case and a transparent touch screen," Markoff reports. "Industry executives and competitors believe that Apple has developed the first of a new generation of devices that are closer to personal computers in pocket form, meaning that they will easily handle music,...

Just moved to Kansas from California and have been a long time verizon customer. Coverage was great in Ca. but now that i am in Ks. the coverage doesnt seem to be that great? Lots of extended network coverage and in and out of coverage. Am I with the right carrier or should i hold out and stay with Verizon? I have called customer service and they can't tell me a whole lot if new towers are going up or not. Can someone please give me a little insight here? Thanks

Apple and the iPhone....

Is it just me or is there a little irony at play with Apple.

If you buy an iPhone you have to use Cingular(dumb move in my opinion) and you don't get 3G.

If you buy a Laptop from Apple, Verizon is the only carrier that has a 3G card that works (v640).

Why wouldn't they go with one carrier that can support both devices?????

KRZR K1M Verizon can't set ringtones for different people?

KRZR K1M Verizon can't set ringtones for different people?

I sold one of these to a family member and she cannot set different ringtones for different people. When you go to your sound settings menu all of the different ringtones are locked. The literally have a little padlock on the front right bottom corner of the ringtone. I select a specific for someone in her phonebook and when that person calls her (even with area code) it still rings the default ringtone.

I pulled another K1M out of the box and the menu looks exactly the same. The ringtones are locked.

WTF?
