Are You A Cell Phone Geek ?

http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-10779_...-2.html?tag=btn »

Face it--you're a cell phone geek. On one hand, it's great that you take the time to know about the technology as you can dispense valuable advice to friends and family. But cell phones aren't the be-all and end-all of human existence, and there's more to life than knowing the differences between Motorola and Nokia. Also, remember that not everyone shares your passion, so unless you're with your fellow geeks, keep your diatribes to yourself 🤣

How to get Xringer, MyTonz, etc. on my new v325???

On my old phone - Samsung sch-a530 - I had a long list of available applications from which to choose for downloading ringtones to my phone. Here are the names of just a few of them: MyTonz, Xringer, MIDIRingTones, Ringster, Modtones, Sony Music Box. (There were a few more, but I can't remember the names.)

Although it's understandable how people don't like the limitations on their freedom to download free stuff onto the VZW phones, GetItNow always gave me a pretty decent choice of ringtone applications. I could always find "cool" tones for my phone. No more, apparently.

On my new moto v325, all that come up on the GetItNow screen are the following programs, with no apparent way to add new ones: VZW Tones Deluxe, Sony Music Box, Mastton...

New Verizon Razr and themes

So, I just got the Razr yesterday and I've noticed that the themes do not change. There are a few available in the set up, but even after shutting down and turning back on, the theme remains the ugly red verizon theme.

Does anyone know if this is an OS level issue, i.e. I'm screwed until a firmware update, or is this a phone-level issue where I can take it back and get a different one?

Any idea if calling verizon support will help or not?

Thanks.

WCDMA

My sister works for Tmobile (and I stubbornly refuse to return to Tmobile after multiple billing & service issues) so I tend to get an earful of cellular technology rants and raves. The subject of WCDMA in Europe came up for some reason. What exactly is WCDMA? Will the CMDA phones be able to use it?

Misleading Verizon Customer Serivce - Beware

Hi!

I am here unfortunately to share a bad experience I had with Verizon. I am very disappointed in their customer service.

I signed up on Nov 9th. I was told I had 15 days to try out the service. I was also told that my minutes would not be prorated, and I had the full 450.

I cancelled Nov. 12th because I tried several phones, and none of them worked at my house. I was told I would pay a portion of my contract month.

Well, I then get a bill that includes the early termination fee, plus a $50 overage fee. I called up customer service, and was told they would credit the termination fee, but the minutes went over the prorated minutes I had been given for three days.

First, the early termination fee should never show up, an...

New Verizon TV Network

According to today's New York Times, Verizon is starting a subscription television network. No dates announced yet.

Excerpted from The New York Times, 1/25/2006

LG MEDIAFLO PHONE

"Desperate Housewives" on Line 1? Almost.

The mobile service provider Verizon, the phone makers LG and Samsung and the wireless technology company Qualcomm plan to start a TV network for the phone, perhaps as early as October.

In Europe and South Korea, broadcasts already go to phones like LG's V9000 and Samsung's SCH-B250. Qualcomm is now building its network, which is separate from Verizon's, but its operating area will follow the coverage path of Verizon's V Cast, which can currently send video clips to an area encompassing about 150 millio...

Are cell phone viruses a threat or a hoax?

I say this because as I have read in this forum people believe that Verizon sets up their restrictions to protect their customers from viruses. I am not trying to be ignorant, but I have not heard of a viruses existing on other networks let along verizons. However, if we all have @vtext.com address for text messaging, who's to say there is not already a virus out there that will just email them randomly. What I am trying to say is I think Verizon is just talking viruses so they can further keep their customers in the bubble that verizon makes with restrictions on installing programs and other features that do not interfer with their network. So here is my question, has anyone had a cellphone viruses, if so please share your experience? I...

Samsung i730 and Windows Mobile 5.0

I've heard rumors about an upgrade to Windows Mobile 5.0, but no one at either Verizon or Samsung will confirm this.

Does anyone have any idea if they are going to do the upgrade, and if so, when?

Predictions (Based on 4th Qtr Results):

Judgin' from the 4th qtr results, an' my gut feelin' that VZW doesn't want to merely beat the competition in things like net adds, but obliterate 'em, I'd imagine that pretty soon we'll see:

Ӣ Some cheaper Family plans levels ($59, maybe $49 too) to match what T-Mobile and Cingular have been doin'

Ӣ Introduction of some new and better Prepay options, since INPulse is a lame failure ($1/day fees?!? whack) an' the MinutePacks are too expensive

None o' this'll help me any, but I guess there's a lot o' lower income families and foolios wit' bad credit who'll 'preciate it.

What I'd really like to see is a $29.99 level on their postpaid. I talk mad minutes on the N/W/IN-calling, but stay off the peak, so I think I co...

Claimed FCC Regs & Realtime Disclosure of Airtime Usage

BACKGROUND: My next bill includes over $130 in peaktime overage charges. Determined to be more on top of things in the future, I've put together a spreadsheed to keep track of my peaktime usage via Verizon's #MIN (646) txt·msging service, to be accessed first thing, every Monday morning. My rationale is that my most recent peaktime minutes will be well over 48 hours old at that point, and therefore, the figure provided via #MIN should be both accurate and complete.

Sunday evening at 8:51p, a #MIN query yielded a report of “Pk:30”. This morning (36+ hours later), another query showed, “Pk:92”. Since I doubted that I'd used 62 minutes between 06:00a and 09:01p yesterday, I called VZW to get a breakdown of my airtime-per-call usage. ...
