Motorola Q

I've checked in this forum and can't seem to find this issue replicated, so any help would be appreciated.

My phone rings just fine, but I can't hear anything that streams - XM, for example, and when I try opening my ringtones through WMP, it says they are playing, but I get no sound.

I read one post but it referred to earpiece volume, and it's the phone speakers that are giving me a problem. My phone rings and my reminders all work, even those that are MP3s.

I'm using CloneDVD to rip a DVD and move the video file to the SD card in my Q.
Which video file format should I be creating when I rip the dvd? I can't seem to get an .avi file to play with the windows media player on the Q (?)

I see its also missing other needed symbols. but right now I need the ? key.

When I first got my Q I was in a meeting at work, must have hit a key or something and it called one of my contacts and recorded our meeting on their voice mail.

Lesson learned -- Lock Keypad.

Today I was packing up after a meeting and my boss' phone rings. She shows me that the call is coming from my cell. Check the Q, sure enough was calling her. Keypad was LOCKED though. Any idea how the Q could place a call when the keypad is locked?

This is actually pretty scary when you think about it.

This is supposed to use your triangulating cellphone location, since there is no GPS on the Q? I couldn't get it to work...anybody familiar with this app?

Is there any way to update the browser on the Q, I am trying to view videos from youtube and loggin in to sirius seems to also need a browser upgrade.

when your alarm clock is going off what does dismiss do, does it shut it off or is it a snooze button??

Why is this? I bought a nice set of ear phones and would like to use them for both but now I need an adapter.

I tried to hook-up a Motorola Q with Alltel. They told me the phone would work but not the high speed internet. Is this true, or just BS?

Today the space shuttle was supposed to launch at 3:49pm, then got delayed due to cloud cover.
I want to get a Q, and was wondering if streaming
video from nasa.gov was viewable on the Q, since they offer a streaming Windows Media Video stream.
Could someone try to watch the stream and let me know if it works.

Of all the nerdy things I want this phone for, this would be a sure thing that I would buy it for.

The stream is located on www.nasa.gov, and you click on nasa tv, there is a stream that shows the video of the shuttle on the launch pad, as it waits, and waits, and ..... you get the idea.

What would everybody say is the biggest issues they have with the Q. I don't really live in an area where pda's and smartphones are a big seller. I usually base what device I buy on customer feedback, but in this case I don't have much to go on. Its an attractive price for a smartphone and I just wanted to see if it would be worth taking a shot with this one.

My Q appears to slow down down significantly because I have 2000 contacts. When I view by company name and I type in the name of a firm, it can take 30 - 40 seconds for the list to populate. If I have fewer, will it help? How about the same number of contacts, but less information? Can I synch the Q with specific contacts from my Contact list? (say 500 of the 2000). If I split the Contact folder, can I specify which folder it will synch with?

I installed activesync a while back and have just gotten the chance to use it. Now for some reason the active sync is not working on my phone. Any suggestions?

I purchased the Weatherbug weather software from Handango and just found out that the software is not compatible at this writing with WM5. Be aware that the weatherbug and other websites specifically indicate it will work with any WM smartphone. I am not trying to get a refund from Handango. I will post the results of that effort.

On a general note, buying software from these small companies with nothing but email support that generally takes days for a response is not very fulfilling. Its a buyer be ware market.

Can the Q be charged via USB plugged into a computer? When I plug mine into my computer, I'll occasionally see the "plugged in" indicator, but the battery dies! The unit charges correctly when I use the AC->mini USB cable, but not when I plug the USB into a USB socket on my computer. Is this expected?

For the 1st few days I didnt have too, but now if I listen to mp3's I have to hold the phone practically near my ear in order to hear mp3's. Ringtones play at normal volume. Yes, volume in WMP is up at 100%.

Is there an option somewhere to adjust the volume for this that is causing this to occur?

So I bought the Q last week and I loved the phone, but just my luck, after less than a week, the phone froze on me and it got stuck on the Verizon Wireless logo - couldn't get to the home page. Tried taking out the battery hoping this would re-set it with no luck and eventually called Verizon Wireless tech support who tell me I have to return it and get a new one. Grr. I haven't found any info. about this problem and perhaps it is a one-off but I am wondering, has anyone else had any issues with the phone 'freezing?'

This forum is a great source. You all are bright and really up to speed. I really could use some consensus help. My head is spinning from so many opinions. I have done a lot of homework (as you all have), and need to get some sound help: Is the Q really usable at this point of its development? Seems like some input has been that it has major issues, some say its usable as it is. I intend to use it for business with my contact database from ACT, my company email from Outlook; one feature that I really find necessary is voice dialing (got spoiled on my E815).Is now the time to buy this unit? Would I be better off with a Treo 700w (lacks voice dialing-dang).You all have the units already, could you please help me with some unbiased feedback?
