Upgrading in Store Vs Online Vs Third Party

I've been looking around online at phone prices and on some models the price varies a lot. For instance the Droid Incredible can be had for free (family plan primary line upgrade, 2 year extension) at one dealer Vs $100 at another. In addition to price I'd be interested to hear about advantages/disadvantages of buying from these various sources. Obviously if you get a phone from a local retailer you can go back if you have a problem, but if you buy online is there anything to consider other than the price? I don't know anything about this and I hope I'm not tweaking anyone by asking these questions (for instance any Verizon reps). Thanks!

I read the first headline and thought it was for real, then I read the story and though it was for real. Then I thought wait, it's April 1st... ohhhhh.

Best April Fools stories Phonescoop has put out. You actually pranked me on that first story!

Out of date?

I was looking at getting a new phone because mine is falling apart literally...

Is the incredible worth looking at...how about the Iphone 4?

I just feel like the tech will be out-dated since both are a year old...

any opinions?

Page Plus Cellular

Hi All,

I have been with Verizon for the past 8 years and am very satisfied however, a friend of mine told me about Page Plus Cellular. They use the Verizon network and from what I can tell you can activate almost any Verizon phone sans BlackBerry.

The cost is amazing and I know you get what you pay for. I've been reading reviews and most of the negative comments center around their customer service. The majority of reviewers are satisfied with their coverage.

Any thoughts??? Pros and cons??

Thanks!!

Can I order this stupid Thunderbolt through the phone with Verizon

I think I can only get my phone through the orders department on the phone with Verizon. What number should I call and when is the earliest I can call?

I have a bonus credit that I can only get through voice support.

Thanks in advance. Can't find the info I need.

Phonescoop deletes negative reviews about Verizon phones!!!!

There was a negative HTC Thunderbolt review dated around March 18th that was titled G A R B A G E, and I noticed around 3 days ago that it was deleted. What the f*** phonescoop, how much is VZW paying you to keep honest reviews about their phones off of this site???? That REALLY sucks. You call this a reputable, honest site????

Has anyone noticed?

I've been reading through the forums between calls and I check all 4 big carriers. Verizon has more active topics than any others'. Thoughts?

HTC Trophy is approved

It looks like a version of the HTC Trophy with CDMA support has been approved and there is also a discount being offered for Microsoft employees. Unfortunately there's still no official release date. Do any of you "insiders" have the scoop? It's bout time for Verizon to offer a WP7 phone. TIA

I still want a expanded softcover user's manual to come with a new phone.

I recently purchased (2) new phones from Verizon, and was shocked to discover no user manuals for either phone. All that was provided was a "Tips, Hints and Shortcuts Pamphlet? I got no where with the salesman, nor the store manager. Called Corporate Customer Care and was provided a Manufacturer's phone number, who after arm twisting agreed to send a free manual. All claim this is a GREEN Initiative. My reply was "that's a cheesy excuse to cut corners and boost profit." I'm 57.5 and will use that manual like a college text book to highlight and paper clip pages. My 10 year old daughter needs a manual because of no previous cell phone experience. Granted prior phone knowledge can be carried from phone to new phone, but the best way to exploit...

Thunderbolt is getting Gingerbread 2.3 in 2nd qtr. . .

WoW! That was fast! The TB came out like a week ago and there is already a timeline for it to receive the Gingerbread 2.3 update.

To me, there really isn't anything all that significant to come in 2.3. To me all the exciting features came in 2.2 with the ability to store apps to memory cards, because these smartphones have an extremely small amount of internal memory.

Is anything being done about the HTC Thunderbolt battery issue?

I have read they are offering 50% on a standard battery.

Thunderbolt and mobile hotspot

So if you recently bought a thunderbolt, you get free unlimited mobile hotspot through may 15th when a firmware update will come out replacing the app with a paid version.

Cool thing about the paid version, it cost $30 for the mobile hotspot feature. It uses the data allowance for your phone. Unlimited data on your phone will give you unlimited data for the hotspot in theory.

On the other hand, we might see tiered data plans as soon as May 16th for smartphones, and this new mobile hotspot feature may require a data plan feature change. I do not have any info about that yet.

Go out and get yourself a thunderbolt and enjoy some 4g speed and unlimited data while you still can.

Verizon to be #2 carrier once AGAIN

I was a Verizon customer for 6 years. I upgraded my pearl to a droid x last December. After comparing the data speeds of the inspire 4G I paid the ETF and went to AT&T. The service is identical. The data speeds are much faster. Once AT&T gets tmobiles network and customers that will leave Verizon miles and miles behind. Verizon is good at making their customers think they have the best when in reality it's not and now they can't even come close.

Activate smat phone on VZW without a plan?

I own a couple of Pixi Plus' that I was going to use for my wife and daughter, both relatively casual users. WiFi connectivity is more than adequate for their use, yet I was astounded to learn VZ requires an unlimited data plan on these phones to even activate them.

That's absurd. I own the phones already. I could understand this if VZ is subsidizing my cost on the phones. There has to be a way around this.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
