Taxis Will Help Find Cell Dead Spots in NYC

December 29, 2006

City taxi cabs will soon be used to try to lower the number of dropped cell phone calls.

The New York Post says the Taxi and Limousine Commission has agreed to let telecommunications company Ericsson put sensors in the trunks of about 75 cabs.

The sensors are meant to locate cell service dead spots throughout the five boroughs, providing feedback every ten minutes.

The paper says Ericsson is doing the research for an unnamed cell phone carrier that will pay an undisclosed amount of money to the taxi fleet that takes part in the program.

Another Stupid Verizon Decision!!!

They let motorola release the v710 and almost all the bluetooth features are turned off except for the ones that let you buy BT accessories.

why wouldn't there be the ability to sync contacts and calendars with a Mac/PC?
They tested this phone for months and they didn't think this was a feature that we would want at launch? every other BT phone adhears to the BT OPEN STANDARD. as a manufactuer or phone company you have to make a conscious decision to turn this standard OFF.

buying a bluetooth enabled device should get you all the features that the conglomerate of companies have agreed upon are put in the standard. you'd be pissed if your DVD player didn't allow you to play alternate audio tracks or your compact flash card only ...

Taking a job with Verizion

I'm considering taking a sales job with Verizon at one of their retail stores. Does anyone know what Verizon's pay scale is like? I am offered a base with an idea of commission but it keeps being talked up that with commission, the sky is the limit.

I'm in debate because I am also being considered a job with T-Mobile.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO CANCEL YOUR SERVICE???

Since this is the only good question I can think of to ask the Verizon Reps that frequent this forum...How much is it to cancel your contract?

Feel free to add on why I should stay...and I will add on with my real world experience why I should not.

Thank you.

sick of verizon

I hate verizon.

I hate that they use cdma while the majority of the world doesn't and that they have the best quality, most reliable service in the States. I wish they were being run out of the market because of their stupid cdma.
I hate that they offer an incredibly crappy selection among incredibly crappy phones. Not even a good selection of incredibly crappy phones. This one is indisputable. Verizon phones are absolute crap.
I hate that they make you pay for features your phone would otherwise come with, like games. That is just greedy.
I absolutely hate verizon.

I am probably going to stay with Verizon because I am a spineless crustacean. I think that is why I hate them the most.

SEEKING ADVISE!!!

OK, here is my deal. I have owned the treo, 6700, and moto q. I like features of allllll of them, and again I hate some features on allll of them. I work in surgical sales. on my phone approx 4,000+ min's a month. I chose verizon just because of the CDMA in-building coverage it offers over that of the GSM in the Western NY demographic area. I was possibly considering kicking around the idea of a blackberry. Needed to know what everyone thought. I am using a Q. It is ok, nothing to write home about. Size, screen size, reception are pluses for me. Full keypad has typo errors all the time which is common. 6700 & treo are great, but size and weight were issues. Esp. 6700. Felt like a darn brick. If I act. a blackberry how is the r...

Now that unlocking is officially ok...

...will Verizon be loosening up on their phone crippling, i.e. bluetooth et al? I'm been planning to jump ship ever since the v710 fiasco 2 years ago, and now that my contract is up, I'm looking heavily at other options. However, I'd like to keep verizon if at all possible since I have a $10 a month lifetime discount from my job 10 years ago.

Emailing ringtones

I am sure this has been addressed before but I don't know how to do it. And since I work for VZW it would be nice to know.
How do you email ringtones to your phone? I tried once before but it didn't work because it was an attachment. Sorry to sound like a newb, but what can ya do?
Any answers are much appreciated!

Verizon To Offer Free Ringtones New Years Eve

Verizon Wireless is pushing their mobile music offerings by allowing users to download a free ringtone on New Year’s Eve.

Subscribers can text the word β€œtone” to short code 2007 to get instructions on how to download a free ringtone. Users can choose from a variety of music clips, but the promotion will end as revelers welcome in the new year.

account changes

I was told by a Verizon rep last night that on Dec 18th, someone went into a mall store located about 40 minutues from house and made a change to my account. The only two people authorized to make changes to the account are myself and my wife and we did not do this. They added a text messaging package to the phone which is my 15 year old sons line. We also suddenly experienced a drastic increase in text messages about two weeks prior to the said change. My son says he does use text messaging but nowhere near as much as I am being billed fro, roughly 6000 or so this month alone. Anyone have any insight as to where I need to start to clear this problem up?

Buying from non Verizon Corporate Stores

Why is it so much cheaper to buy from non-VZW Corporate stores? Today I saw an advertisement for the KRZR, $79.99 at Circuit City. Verizon charges 199.99. How can CC afford it, and is there something wrong with it? (Is it a refurb?)

Gzone

I went into a Verizon store yesterday so my friend could use one of my old phones since I don't have service with VZW anymore, and I saw the Gzone...and that looks like (not saying it is) the biggest piece of crap I have ever seen. It seriously the biggest cellphone made since the early 90's and what I don't get is the buttons are so damn small. You will need a man purse just to carry it. I am done.

Apple: Disrupting Mobile Service

Interesting article:

New hardware isn't the only way Apple can shake things up in the mobile industry. The company has the ability to disrupt the entire distribution channel, which is currently controlled by cellular service providers.

The control maintained by service providers has slowed the advance of hardware features and the emergence of new competition for service. Here’s how Apple is poised to disrupt that status quo.

The Phone Subsidy Illusion
Conventional wisdom in the cell phone industry says it's too hard to sell phones at full retail, because most customers can't afford to pay several hundred dollars for a new phone.

Service providers also don’t want to compete for customers on a monthly basis; finding ...
