Thinking of switching to VZW, customizing phones... V3m?

We have 3 Cingular phones and one VZW. I'm thinking of moving them all to two VZW plans.

The trade offs are slightly in VZWs favor, but I am a little concerned that we won't be able to customize them to the equivalent of what we're used to.

I want to basically move our V6xx set over to the V3m. I presume this requires an Alltell firmware version, an unlocked phone, or some other hack. Any recommendations?

Even if I could buy our ringtones or wallpapers (which I can't), I would rather just move them over like I have been doing with Moto Phone Tools and also Windows Explorer, either via BT (I know - they crippled OBEX) or a data cable.

By the way - is it still possible to assign rings to groups or individuals on this phone?

Verizon Reception in Wilmington, NC

Can anyone tell me how Verizon's reception is in Wilmington, NC?

How about as you get out of the city like 421 North? What about the northern section of River Rd?

Can anyone compare it to Sprint?

Thanks

Returning within 15 days w/ bundle package

If I was to return my phone within 15 days, will I be able to return the bundle (car charger, bluetooth headset, and phone case)? They've all have been opened. My reason, not satified. Since it is still within 15 days, will there be any fees involved with the phone and/or the accessories?

Verizon dropping $15 fee for V-Cast!!!???

I was reading about the chocolate release on engadgetmobile.com and it said something about Verizon dropping the $15 fee for V-Cast...making downloads two bucks for dual PC and phone downloads...

Does anyone know if this only applies to customers who purchase Chocolate phones or can anyone with a V-Cast phone stop paying the $15 fee????

Problems with the LG 6100

My 6100 has been acting very strange lately. Within the past couple weeks, it has been making a chiming sound for no reason, kind of like a little tune. It happens when my phone is set to vibrate or even if it's on silent. Also, after it does that, it will lock itself up. It gets a dark colored bar across the top of the screen and I have to press End several times to get it to go away. And if that bar is there and I get a call, when my call ends the phone wants to resume the Get It Now feature, which it was never in. I'm beginning to think it's possessed. Any ideas? Has anyone ever come across this before? I also posted this in the tech forum, but it never hurts to ask in more than one place.

Verizon Wireless to end music download fee

Sorry if this is old news but I just found out...

Verizon Wireless to end music download fee

By BRUCE MEYERSON
AP Business Writer

NEW YORK (AP) -- Verizon Wireless is eliminating the monthly $15 fee for its music download service in conjunction with the launch of a cell phone featuring an iPod-like click wheel and a memory card that can hold up to 1,000 songs.

The new "Chocolate" handset, made by LG Electronics Inc. of Korea, features software that will let users play their own MP3-format music on the device in addition to songs purchased from Verizon's music store - avoiding the mini-controversy that accompanied the launch of that service early this year.

The company is charging $150 for the phone with a new two-...

when vzw takes over

when we DO take over the #1 spot (hopefully mid next year or end of this year) do you think there will be any other big mergers? I dont think cingy has anymore time or money for another merger... But I can see T-Mo stepping up and join the race..

Does anyone else think that Cingular changing their name back to ATT W is a huge mistake? A vast majority of people dont understand the concept of just changing the name vs merger.. people with currently subscribing to cingular are gonna think ATTW was horrible back in the day.. and now they are back? any opinions?

new chocolate thread

i like a good discussion, but that one was getting a little long...

Ok, so I played with a Chocolate at work the other day, now i have one at home. I can't say I'm all that excited about it, but it is slowly growing on me. the touch sensative keypad takes some getting used to. the flash UI is a little slow, rock and roll isn't too bad, but jazz is pretty slow.

the red lights on the front are VERY bright and easy to see, but time out very quickly when the phone is closed. haven't found a way to change that yet. they stay on for awhile when the phone is open once you change the backlight settings. the number keypad is backlit very nicely. seeing in the dark is not an issue with the phone.

reception has been good so far. I live in a...

"The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious.......

DENVER, Colorado (AP) -- A Utah teen with fingers of fury is once again the speed text-messaging king of the world.
Ben Cook, 18, of Provo, returned to the top of the cell phone text-messaging heap Friday at a Denver text-off, blazing through a 160-character standardized message in 42.22 seconds.

The phrase used for purposes of professional, competition texting is: "The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human."

The feat was recorded on video and scored by an official timekeeper, validating it for Guinness World Records purposes, said Sara Spaulding, spokeswoman for the event sponsor, Jump Mobile.
