I need help selecting a good tri-mode phone

I'm trying to get a new phone for my dad. He needs something that will get the best use out of VZ coverage area.

First off, I'm in Arizona, and most of the state is analog coverage. About 50% of his calling that he does is in the analog area. He travels that state for work and his Samsung A310 is just not cutting it.

He needs a phone that works. Not one that has anything extra on it, like a camera. It doesn't matter if it is A color screen or not. The only thing he asks is that it be a flip phone. It also has to be very durable (his phones take a lot of abuse through normal everyday use for his business).

I've heard that the V60s gets a good signal, is that true?

Any help would be appreciated. Remember, it has to be a...

Need the VZW reps help with this one

Alright you call center and data reps out here in phonescoop land, here's the situation........
My first 7135 worked perfect for about 6 months, and then went to you know what. So I went through about 3 different 7135's until a supervisor approved my getting an i600 since I was having so many problems with my 7135. So in late June I received my replacement i600, but with no battery. I called and asked where my batter was (very nicely and calmly because I know how you guys don't like rude customers), and the rep I talked to said that my battery, cradle, software, and charger were on the way. Ok, no problem for me, I'm a happy guy, and I receive my battery in the mail a few days later, and I start to think that everything else is on the way.

Sales Reps!!

Okay time for a bit of honesty here people, are you guys selling accessory bundle packages as if they are included in with the phone and if so are you advising the customers that they DO NOT need to buy the bundle with the phone? I just had a 1/2 hour call about that!

Need info - just switched to VZ from ATT

VZ reps - I'd like to ask for some advice. I have a phone with a number (temporary) assigned to the account. I have started the porting process (which will take about 2 days). Of course when that happens I'll have my old ATT number on my VZ account. I have already activated the phone - will it have to be re-programmed after the new number is ported? If so will this erase all of my settings and contacts? If so, I'll wait to enter all of that until its over, if not then I'll take care of it now so the phone is good to go when my number is ported. Please advise....

night and weekends

I have this guy at work who says that if he starts a call per say, Friday night at 8:50pm and he talks for 30 mins, he says that that call of 30 mins will come out of his anytime mins, (he has Cingular), he says all carries do this! I am very sure that this call on VZW network would be 10 mins anytime, and 20 min night & weekends. He was telling me something about hanging up after 9pm and dial the number again, I was like "I am glad I don't have to do that"! but then my other friend who stepped in the conversation says VZW does this too, we argued for about 30 mins, and now I have my doubts. Can someone assure me that Im the one who's correct? or should I take my words back? ¿?¿?

Best plan for calling Canada (frequently)?

Hi, hopefully someone can help me and this message doesn't start yet another flame war...

Is the Verizon North American plan my best choice ($59.99/month for 400 anytime minutes, 1000 night and weekend minutes) or is there something better out there cost wise?

On a monthly basis, I make ~400 minutes of long distance phone calls to Canada and maybe 5 minutes of long distance calls within the U.S.. I probably will receive ~80 minutes of long distance phone call from Canada and another 5 minutes or so of calls from within the U.S.. The vast majority of these phone calls will happen at night or on weekends. I think I can get away with 400 anytime minutes for the remainder of my phone calls. If it matters at all, I live in Louisiana.

I...

International Txt Msging

Does anyone know if VZW will have any time soon an Internation Txt Msg package? about 30% of my Txt Msg go overseas and each txt I send is .25 cents, and each I receive is .02 cents, this is not a big issue since I txt from my family's CDMA carrier's website in Venezuela, so I dont pay for the ones I send, just the ones receive, but It'd be nice to have a package so that way I can reply to them right away, what I do is that I wait until I get home and send them a txt from the website. Any input will be appreciated!

switching from verizon

recommend me a new wireless carrier, I've got to switch although I would prefer not too. Parents find the bills too high (5 phones on the plan means 2 family plans so its like base $140 plus fees and text messaging and such.) They were talking about going to AT&T but I hear they suck. I'm located in south jersey about 20 miles from Philly so I want something that functions well in this area.

Also feel free to recommend a phone, I had my heart set on the v710, but my dreams have come crashing down.

thanks

Verizon's Voice Mail

Is it me or is Verizon's Voice Mail system annoying. I mean when I try to call one of my friends it has their message, they usually say leave a message after the beep, then the voice mail service has the woman talking about leaving a message after the beep, then another context says press 5 to leave a call back number. Grr it's annoying, or is it just me? I wish you could set it so you just leave your message then it would go straigh to the beep.

Screwed The Pooch

Well it seems that VZW really screwed the pooch today. Radio Shack IS SELLING V710's TODAY in limited quantity through direct retail only!

How in the hell did you guys let a second tier vendor beat you to the draw? I hope that you do know that you have disappointed a great deal of people (both new & current customers).

There is absolutely no excuse for this. I don't want to hear the "party line" about RS buying VZW branded phones from Motorola direct. It is VZW BRANDED equipment and a VZW activation!

Now the rest of us have to wait till Aug 11??? Your sales & marketing "managers" must be smoking their socks to let this happen!

Signed,
A Very Disappointed Customer 👿

Another example of how customer think we owe them the world

Customer calls in from one of our stores and say that he has had the insurance on his line for sometime but was never adv that it was dealt thru a 3rd party, Asurion. I told the customer that he would have gotten a brochure when activating the insurance to advice him of this and how make a claim...his response "Nobody reads those things" which of course is VZW's fault...He tells me that he NEEDS to leave that store with a phone, so I look at the accnt and is eligible for Early upgrade as of 8/2/04 so I adv this to him and tell him I'll make an exception to get him taken care of, he then TELLS me that he will not pay for Accessories, so I in turn tell him that if he was getting the phone for free he would still have to pay for accessories and...

Tri-mode? All Digital? Something fishy is going on here

I just purchased the Samsung SCH-a650 from a local Verizon store as it seemed to have the best price/features ratio of anything they had for sale... All the in-store placards and info about phone stated it was a tri-mode (2 types of CDMA plus analog AMPS service)... Being able to access the old analog networks is important to me as I often go camping in places like West Virginia or upsate New Hampshire where analog AMPS is the only option... I realize that the celluar companies are eventually planning to convert all the analog networks to digital... But for the next couple of years I'm sure analog AMPS will still be the only way to connect if you're in the boonies...

Anyway, I get home and the first thing I notice is that the outside of t...
