Iphone Activation???

Does anyone know exactly how this is going to work? Is the Iphone only for new customers or is it eligible for upgrades also? Is it possible that the $599 is an outright price?

New Iphone dissappointments

Just when you were ready to OD on anti-depressants, things just got WORSE......

In addition to the Iphone being void of the following features

-No MMS
-No IM
-No Video record
-No GPS

The latest discovery of the Iphone is that it is also void of the following:

-No Text messaging
-No Making/receiving calls
-No internet
-And most sad of all....... it only has a 100 song limit on the MP3 player......yep the 4G and the 8G memory is for storing phone #'s ONLY (which of course is pointless because the iphone as we have just discovered does not make or receive calls).

So what is the Iphone with all these "missing features" ..............ummm I'll leave that up to you!

I PHONE KEYBOARD

Well I'm finally going to bring it up..
I can't believe that nobody has put it out there yet.
Wouldn't it be logical to have the keyboard turn sideways like everything else on this phone? It would provide more space for larger keys and a better display ratio, as well as being more evenly balanced. I E- faster typing, or entry method, witch seems to be the overall goal here. No?
Or maby it's my fat thumb's talking.

Phone Dilemma

OK...I've had it with my Palm Treo650. After 1.5 years it is giving me fits (white screen of death, slow boots, dropped calls, etc.) and I don't need to be tied to my work e-mail as much anymore. So with that I'm able to do an upgrade according to my on-line account and just have a few questions on the current Motorola Razr's...

1. Are the current V3 (like one that I could buy from e-bay) decent? I heard some stories on the first generation that they weren't that good, so wondering if the latest firmware is decent?

2. I can get the V3xx for $49.95 but I have to extend my contract 2 years. How is the V3xx as compared to the V3? Is it worth a contact extension to get the latest n greatest.

The $50.00+ difference between the 2 mode...

If you unlock a GSM phone that was under a different carrier to use under at&t, will it kill the functionality of the phone {minus the programs of the previous carrier}?

Shannon's Specter

This will probably get lost in all the iPhone crap, but I read an interesting article in May 21st's Telephony magazine that I thought I would share parts of. Shannon's Law states that the amount of error-free data that could be transmitted over a channel of any given bandwidth was limited by noise.

"A look at the new orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technologies that form the basis of 4G serves as an example. While the industry highlights the gains in speeds that long-term evolution (LTE), ultra mobile broadband (UMB) and WiMAX will bring, those capacity gains are primarily due to wider channels, not greater spectral efficiency - i.e 4G lays bigger pipes rather than increasing the amount of data flowing thro

Again they have not seen the phone or used it either . And as far as edge it is a hell of a lot more reliable than anyones 3g ... just my 2 cents

iphone gets dissed hard!!!

Both David Pogue (New York Times) and Walt Mossberg (Wall Street Journal) confirm that the iPhone doesn't record video. A really strange choice by Apple on a $600 phone.

Also, both reviewers dissed how slow ATT's EDGE network was, and both had criticisms of ATT's network in general. Mossberg didn't like that the iPhone was available for only one carrier, saying essentially that if you're not in an area with good ATT coverage, it doesn't matter how cool the iPhone is (obviously); while Pogue pretty much body-slammed the ATT network:

The bigger problem is the AT&T network. In a Consumer Reports study, AT&T’s signal ranked either last or second to last in 19 out of 20 major cities. My tests in five states bear this out. If Verizon’s slo...
