What Cingular Tells Customers Canceling Over Text Message Rates

This is what Cingular will probably tell you if you call up trying to get out of your cellphone contract and service without paying an early termination fee based on their recent text message rate raise.

Q. Since Cingular is raising its rates, are customers entitled to cancel service without paying an early termination fee?

A. No, that doesn't apply here. This is simply a pricing change for pay-per-use text and instant messaging, which is an optional service. It's similar to buying a ringtone - that's optional as well. It's not part of your monthly rate plan.

Customers who pay for text and instant messages on a per-use basis are generally those who use text messaging occasionally. Frequent users generally purchase ...

3G phones don't buzz!

I think this is great! I guess the fact that UMTS took the essence of (gasp) CDMA reflects by not interfering with speakers and stuff...

I never met a dumb Cingular employee until today.

So I was in my local Cingular store and this guy was just either dumb, or thinking it is November 2005. I was talking to him about at&t. I asked when did Cingular first start selling at&t Yahoo! His response: SBC and AT&T merged to form at&t. (I was thinking, " um duh, I know this!")

So then I said that selling at&t Yahoo! is the first step they are taking to rebrand Cingular. Then rep said " No we are not being rebranded as at&t but instead we will be selling at&t through Cingular." I then pointed out the pending at&t/BellSouth merger, and that if it clears its final hurdle then BellSouth will be rebranded first, and then Cingular will be rebranded thereafter. He said that he recieved a letter from the company saying that they wi...

AT&T White Sim Card Question

Maybe someone here can help . . .

I have an ATT White sim from their original GSM rollout in '02 and an old ATT plan with 7:00 nights.(I am in Pittsburgh, PA.) I have been hearing for some time now that Cingular will be cancelling old ATT plans and forcing everyone to migrate to orange. Can someone confirm this? Will this happen in all markets simultaneously? Has this already happened in some markets?

I read somewhere on here that there are still about 1 million subscribers on the old ATT plans with ATT sims. If that's true, will they bother to force them to migrate?

How does 3G figure into this? Will the 3G system support all of the old sims/plans?

Thanks for the help.

AT&T once again!

Well, the rumors held true! It's almost 2007 and Cingular will now be AT&T!

News brief: http://money.cnn.com/2006/12/29/news/companie s/att_bellsouth/index.htm?cnn=yes

Here is the wireless part of the AT&T website, where it clearly states the name change WILL take place for Cingular:

I for one support this change. There is no name you can have in the telecommunications industry like AT&T.

NTX promo

So are any stores actually participating in the LG CU500 bogo offer that aren't corporate stores?

Does corporate even realize that you'd have to upgrade a line as a tier 5 rate plan just to make $5 off of it at that price? This just might be the most retarded thing I've heard their marketing department come up with all year.

It is OFFICIAL: Cingular Wireless will be rebranded AT&T in early 2007.

I know we have seen hundreds of posts about this old topic, but just to let you know, it is official. According to AT&T, (SOURCE: http://www.att.com/customer_merger/wireless.h tml)

(If you click on the PDF with the FAQs) It is clear that Cingular Wireless will be rebranded. Now interstingly enough in the PDF they have a FAQ that reads: Will you change the name of Cingular Wireless to AT&T Wireless? AT&T answered saying that right now they are not giving any details on the rebranding, but they will address this in more detail in 2007 when the rebranding of Cingular begins.

So there you have it.

(And what is SO FUNNY is the Cingy rep in Chicago told me that Cingular will not go away after the AT&T BellSouth merger, and I told him ...

Cingular, the carrier with the most dropped calls!!!

Its true. I never had such horrible experiences as with them. My old TDMA was awesome with AT&T. But I was forced to Cingular's damn GSM which drops all my calls. I am in Miami, so no excuse about the boondocks and cold spots. Its the worst Jerry, the worst.

Att - Bellsouth News

I'm surprised no one said anything about this...

CNN's website has a story about the merger. Att maid additional concessions (that should satisfy the 2 holdout democrats) and a final vote is expected before Friday, but could happen anytime before then.

Here's the full story:

Has Cingular ever changed your plan without your permission?

On a regular basis now, Cingular, through its computers or its store staff, have changed our plans, without our knowledge, or permission, to take us off of grandfathered plans. Since their corporate office denies their knowledge, they always re-rate our bill, then change them back. We are a family with 20 phone numbers in their system. We monitor our bills but wonder if others have found this. This past week, Cingular has changed three out of five of our oldest plans. We have decided it is time to file suit. You may email me, if you would like me to use your name in a class action filing my attorneys are meeting with me next week to ready. Thank you for any writings you may give that may bolster our position.

Is Cingular Run By Retards???

Signed my contract on 2/9, two days before the rates changed and I got the Media Basic plan for $7.99. Last week, I noticed that I wasn't receiving text messages, so I called CS and was told to change my service center number. That didn't work so I called back yesterday and the rep removed my Media plan, then added it back on. This conviently fixed the problem, because when the rep added the Media plan back on, he added the crippled $9.99 Media Basic plan. Just got off the phone, after 45 fricking minutes, and nothing they can do. The $7.99 is no longer in the system and can't be added back on, how convient. I got an $8 credit for 4 months difference in price, but I still only get 500kb and 200 text, instead of 1MB and 250.

If this ...

cingular violates TOS

cingular has violated their TOS by raising sms ppu from .10 to .15 which is a material change in your contract. That means you can cancel you contract with cingular because of the breach of contract and dont have to pay ETF. This happened a few months ago when Sprint changed from .10 to .15 and 1000's of people got out of their contract.

Raising the Bar - manipulating the signal indicator

This is a theory and I am looking for supporting evidence. Since so much depends on the area you should know that I am in the South Florida area (Miami/Fort Lauderdale/West Palm Beach).

I think Cingular Wireless has been manipulating the signal indicator in an effort to support their "Raising the Bar" campaign. My phone almost always has a full strength indicator even when my signal is weak and I am dropping calls.

I have had poor reception while talking to land line phones and my signal indicator was full strength. I have seen the signal indicator fluctuate, but I suspect that the fluctuation is part of the scheme -no one would believe they actually had full signal all of the time.
