Consumer Reports Article

Best cell service
42,921 CR readers speak

Tired of dropped calls, “service not available” messages, busy signals, and kkkrrrrrcchhhhhh! static in your ear? Then listen up. Our exclusive survey can show you where to get significantly better cell service.

In our fifth annual survey of cell-phone users, Verizon came out at or near the top in the 20 metropolitan areas we surveyed, as it has in years past. But Alltel, a relatively small carrier that primarily serves the midsection of the country, is emerging as a formidable challenger. Another provider, T-Mobile, is also giving Verizon a run for its (and your) money. In other words, consumers now have more than one decent choice in many places, a positive sign in an industry whose noto...

NBI accounts

I've said this before, and I'll say it again.I HATE NBI accounts. Why does cingular think it is a great idea to not let us help customers that need dyer help. Why is it that when I call a department that is supposed to be able to help me help the customer with the NBI account they dont' know how to do it and transfer you to a department that also doesn't know how to do it and you end up in an endless loop of transfers. Then it makes me look bad, the company look bad. These are the customers that leave to go to other companies. I know they make the argument that companies don't want to let their employees make changes, but most of the ones I deal with are small local companies with 1-5 phones. Why on earth wouldn't cingular allow a transfer o...

Cellphones

From http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/16059841/

WASHINGTON - A huge study from Denmark offers the latest reassurance that cell phones don’t trigger cancer.

Scientists tracked 420,000 Danish cell phone users, including 52,000 who had gabbed on the gadgets for 10 years or more, and some who started using them 21 years ago.

They matched phone records to the famed Danish Cancer Registry that records every citizen who gets the disease — and reported Tuesday that cell-phone callers are no more likely than anyone else to suffer a range of cancer types.

Keep 8525 or get something else....

I just got the 8525 and I haven't had any problems yet.

I was wondering what the difference was between the tytn and this version? I know there is a video camera and I am not worried about that. Plus the tytn would be unlocked.

I was looking at also maybe switching for the Blackjack or maybe the Trea 750 when it comes out. Out of all the phones which is the best? As far as usuability, adding software and such.

Also anyone know any good sites for free software or themes for the 8525.

Thanks in advance.

Phone doesn't ring/make calls

This is the second LG CU500 I've had in aprox. 2 months...both with the same problem.

For the most part, it seems that if I haven't used the phone in awhile, say a few hours (but it's still on), the phone seems to go into a kind of 'stand-by' mode: it won't ring when people call me, won't deliver text messages, and won't say that I have any voice mails. If I happen to pick up the phone during this time to make a call, it tries, and always says "call ended" or, in the case of text messaging, "connection failed" (or something like that). In order to get it working again, I have to turn the phone off and back on, sometimes several times in a row. Then, when I make my first call, the phone (or the network?) sends me all the missed text me...

Any Great Holiday Rate PLANS this year?

Last year around this time, Cingular had some pretty good rate plans for the holidays. If I remember correctly, I think it was $50/month for 550 minutes and you could add a line.

Are there any unpublished rates out there right now?

Thanks in adavance!

What really bothers me

I don't have cingular but the few of my friends that have them I have trouble getting them. I call them get a fast ringing tone then after about 5 it goes to a busy signal. No wonder they have the fewest dropped calls you can't receive them to have them droped!

Cingular response to "my circle"??

I noticed recently that T-Mobile as released a My Five product to counter Alltel's My Circle.

Has anyone heard if Cingular is going to do anything similar?

When I first started with AT&T Wireless (2001), customers on a shared/family plan had the opportunity to designate their home number and a few others as "family" numbers.

I know that by working in customer care, I should know of any rumblings, but believe it or not, customer care is often the last ones to know about new products and promos. 🙄

Docking feature

Is there any reason why anyone hasn't come up with a decent home docking system for cell phones?
Eliminate your land line carrier. Come home and "dock" your cellphone to your home wiring.
Make or receive calls from your existing house phones using your cell minutes.
Bluetooth technology should make this easy.

BTW: If you have a Wi-Fi cellphone, is there a way to make free calls with your cellphone in a free wi-fi environment?
