Motorola Backflip: AT&T's First Android Phone?

An unusual-looking Google Android phone could be headed to AT&T. That's according to the Phandroid blog, which was tipped off to the new Motorola handset by an anonymous source. The upcoming model is reportedly code-named Backflip, a name that suits the phone's unique form factor quite literally.

The Motorola Backflip reportedly will be the first Android phone to grace AT&T's network. Like the Motorola Cliq (which is already available from T-Mobile), the Backflip will run version Android 1.5, and will sport Motorola's Blur social networking layer. Unlike the Cliq, however, the Backflip apparently comes without any Google Apps, except for Maps. Phandroid's source of the images also refers to the phone as the Enzo.

AT&T Now Blaming Customers for Its Problems

ARE YOU KIDDING ME ATT!!! JUST FIX YOU'RE DAMM PROBLEMS AND GET OVER IT!

AT&T, the whiny wireless carrier, is back at it again. Fresh off whining in court about Verizon's map ads, AT&T is now whining to financial analysts about its customers. And it is warning that customers should use less of the company's all-you-can-eat data service, lest it become portion-controlled in the future.

Ralph de la Vega, president and CEO of AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets, told analysts yesterday that 3 percent of the company's customers account for 40 percent of its data usage.

"What we are seeing in the U.S. today in terms of smartphone penetration, 3G data, nobody else is seeing in the rest of the planet," de la Vega said, quoted in

Testing shows AT&T 3G network outperforming VZW

AT&T’s mobile data network problems compared to Verizon’s are mainly problems of perception, according to independent testing firm Root Wireless. On most critical performance metrics, AT&T’s 3G networks comes out on top, they say

Verizon down in Midwest and California

Hey, we've been getting a ton of reports that Verizon's network has been down for several hours in Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, and California, possibly as a side effect of merging in the Alltel network. We're hearing a six-hour ETA on things being restored, but we're wondering if anyone else is being affected -- hit us up in comments!

need verification!

My old pantech duo died.. Can't be charged anymore ☹️ poor thing. Well, it's time to move on and i don't want to wait for my plan to expire to upgrade, and i'd rather not buy another duo. So, will it work to go ahead and Buy a att bold 9700 (the phone i'd like to buy) off amazon the just swap my old sim into the new phone? The plan for the duo is unlimited txt/data, so i'd doubt it'd limit the bold's capabilities.

thanks

Any Help is Appreciated

Hey guys I'm new here in the states. I'm from canada and moved about 2 weeks ago. I'm currently using Rogers and im paying out my butt for roaming. I'm also trying out verizon wireless also. The reason i went with verizon because everyone in forums that i read say its the best in the US, but I'm getting drop calls and I only sit at 1 bar at my home, my calls also cut in and out. I exchanged phone already but I'm thinking its coverage. But is AT&T and T-mobile the only carriers in the US that use GSM? I thought verizon used GSM, but they dont. the guy who sold me the storm 2 says they use GSM thats why theres a sim card in the storm 2. I'm not a tech savvy person. thanks.

Question about insurance

Hello all. I was hoping someone could answer a question I have about phone insurance. I have a Samsung Eternity and am needing to get it replaced through the insurance but I don't show this phone on At & T's site, assuming it is no longer sold. In this instance, what phone would At & T replace mine with? Would they try to replace it with a refurbished model? I'm hoping that since the Eternity is no longer available, they do not try to replace it with a refurbished model or a cell phone model that is lower than the Eternity. If anyone could answer this for me I'd be much appreciative, I have never used the insurance before and so am unaware how it works! Thanks!

Upgrade question?

I have a 2 line family plan with ATT. Hubby is eligible to upgrade this Jan. which he plans on doing. I'm able to upgrade in April. But I would like to wait for my line until the end of the 24 months so I can do a 1 year term. Is this possible?

I know when he upgrades early he will be renewing for 2 more years, which he is fine with. But I'm pretty much a cell phone junkie and have a hard time waiting for a new phone every 2 years. 😁

Any help would be great. TIA.

N-Set Software

Did AT&T ever install the N-Set Software? Regionally, nationally?

Dear John... or should I say dear verizon

Me:Verizon I think we need to talk!
Verizon: Are you breaking up with me?
Me: Yes Verizon I am!
Verizon: Why? Don't you love me any more?
Me: Where to start Verizon? I have been with you for a long time. And yes I will cherish the few good times we have had over the past 7 years, I just can't stand you anymore. You are always messing up my bill and charging me more than you should be.
Verizon: How can you leave me? I have the best service. My network is awesome. Haven't you seen my cool ad's on TV.? I made all of those for you!
Me: Yes Verizon you have a very sharp wit, but I am sick of you selling me poopy phones, and charging me obscene amounts for what you call the best service ever. And I feel like I have to be honest with you. Y...

Android Developers Not Happy (nice article)

Skyhook Wireless had been hearing from the developer community that some were backing off the Android platform in favor of iPhone, so the LBS company did a survey to see what's going on.

As expected, the survey shows a general dissatisfaction with the platform among the developer community. Low download volumes, poor marketplace design and discovery options and the lack of an effective consumer billing system were among the complaints.

Of course, the platform presents a lot of potential for great distribution; it just needs some fixing, according to Kate Imbach, vice president of marketing at Skyhook, which supplies location technology for the iPhone. "There are just not a lot of paid apps" in the Android Marketplace and developers are...

How long can ATT survive?

Surely no real carrier can survive if they suck so much in major markets like SF and NY.
