What EXACTLY does no roaming mean?

I apologize if someone's already asked this question recently...

I need a phone that works in two places: at school in VA and at home in WV.

The house in WV has trouble with cell phone reception. Neither Ntelos or Sprint worked out there. I was told (before the merger) that AT&T worked... but now I am wary.

What exactly does no roaming charges mean? How do I find out if I'm going to roam and be charged? Can I do it soon enough to return the phone and get most of my money back (I know they keep the activation fee usually).

In any case I like Cingular so far... but could just go with Alltel, if this is to be a hassle.

Any info would be fantastic.

Adding features to a customers account today in POS.com, I noticed something mighty interesting...

Push to Talk UNL feature add for $9.99. 😲

It may be coming sooner than we'd believe... 😛

v3x

I have posted a couple of times in regards to this subject, simply because there is a rumor going around on this forum that the v3x is coming to cingular.

WHERE IS YOUR PROOF?
Whatever you have, let me know. I have a source at motorola who says we are not going to get the v3x. If you have conflicting information, please share it.

dropped calls.

I get a dropped call every day with my s710a an was wonderinfg if this is normal I had perfect coverage few weeks ago but ever since i got the sony phone ive been having troubble. I call up customer care an tell me its normal for me to get dropped calls from time to time. One time i was told since the merger with Att thats the reason for my lower than normal signal strength an dropped calls. Now i get dropped calls bout 1 a day an was wondering what are my options..to either stay with the phone I have an pray that the network will clear up for me or try to exchange it for another of the same model or to try to get another phone that is equal to the s710a.

WHAT CAN I DO OR IM I JUST BEING ANAL?

New Rollover Rules Starting Sept 1

Just got word that starting on Sept 1st, we will no longer be allowing a customer to keep his/her entire rollover balance if the balance exceeds the number of one month's worth of package minutes on the new plan. For example -- Sam has a Nation 1350 plan with rollover and has built up 1400 rollover minutes. If Sam changes to a Nation 450 plan, he will automatically lose 950 of his rollover minutes and keep only 450. I can hear the whining and moaning now. 😢 😡

Moto+AAPL+Cingular -- WSJ

"Apple Computer Inc., in an effort to extend its strength in digital music to a potentially large new market, has reached an agreement with Cingular Wireless to offer a Motorola Inc. cellphone that will play songs from Apple's iTunes Music Store, according to people familiar with the matter.

Apple also may introduce a line of iPod digital music players intended to replace its hugely popular iPod mini line, a person familiar with the matter said.

The announcements could come as soon as next week. Apple yesterday sent invitations to the media for an event in San Francisco on Sept. 7. The invitation, alluding to the invention of the iPod, states "1,000 songs in your pocket chang ed everything. Here we go again."

The iTunes phone, which...

Push-To-Talk on GO Phones...?

I have a regular 2 year contract with Cingular, but have some family and friends that have GO Phones. But was just wondering if anyone knew or heard if they would be offering the PTT service or PTT phones, to prepaid customers?

Sony Ericsson's Z520a

I was just checking out this phone here on Phone Scoop and I was wondering if Cingular will be getting this phone (seeing as they already have the Z500a) anytime soon. I really like it and I would definitely sign up with Cingular just for this phone! 😉 Also how good ARE S.E. phones?? 😕

A Good Use for Old TDMA phones would be.....

....to donate them to 3rd world Latin America countries that still have TDMA systems.

Altho, like the U.S., most are slowly shifting to GSM, many still have viable TDMA systems that will be around for quite a while.

I was just in Peru. I took my old TDMA phone there knowing I could probably give it to someone there rather than put it in a land fill here. I was right. (I also took my active Cingular GAIT and T-Mobile GSM phones.) Most of my useage was via a local prepaid SIM.
The more mature TDMA system there has somewhat broader coverage.

Point is - seems like Cingular could get some brownie points by donating these perfectly good TDMA phones they get to some of these poor countries.
Eg. This country is so p...

What is up with some Orange reps?

I got a call today from an Orange RM rep who wanted me to take a payment on an old blue account. I said she can bring the customer on the line and I would be happy to take the payment. The rep said "No actually I don't have to transfer her all I have to do is give you my CUID and then you can take the payment from me". Well, isn't this credit card fraud to take a payment on a credit card if this person is not the cardholder? I put her on hold and consulted with my supervisor and was told that no, the card holder needed to be on the line. I returned to the rep and told her this and she chewed me out stating that she was going to report me with my CUID because I wouldn't take this payment. I said she can report me all she wanted but I will be ...

HSDPA...Where is it?

With Verizon rolling out EV-DO nation wide at an alarming rate and coupled with their new reduction in price on their unlimited access plan, it only makes me wonder what is Cingular planning?
Already behind in the highspeed race with Verizon and terribly overpriced, Cingular stands to lose a lot of the potential revenue in this virtually untapped emerging market. With Wi-max beginning its testing and eventual rollout there is even more competion waiting on the herizon, in addition to the already nation wide sporadic Wi-Fi coverage.

Anyway is there anyone out there that knows any news on the rollout or Cingular's plan? The last major article I saw on the subject was in May, claiming that Cingular would have 20 markets up and running...
