gsm/sim card swap ?s

my girl friend was with att then they went over to cingular. she still had an att phone but then the screen stopped working. so she takes her backup phone(from att) a nokia 6800 to the cingular store and they tell her she has to buy a cingular phone cuz the att phone wont work. is this correct? i thought that was a beneifit of gsm, the fact that you could just change the sim card. its not like its a tmobile phone, cingy bought out att so it should be all the same right? she said the csr said something about it being locked with a code? im lost in the sauce please guys any help is appreciated i offer my first born 😉 thanks!!!!

Wideband CDMA??

Does anybody know anything about the coming changeover Cingular appears to be approaching in going from GSM to wideband CDMA? The reason I'm asking is because in this month's Cargo Magazine a cellphone industry analyst reviewed the $11,500.00 Vertu Signature phone (stainless steel with 18K gold keys) which is a GSM phone compatible with Cingular or T-Mobile. He stated that this phone's technology (GSM) would be obsolete in about 8 years to make way for wideband CDMA. Would that mean that Verizon may have the technology edge over us in the coming years because they already have the basic CDMA?

Cingular customer service

I believe the main reson for Cingular's poor customer service is poor management. The leadership is really bad and causes reps to have a bad experience and it trickles down to the customers. It is very easy to blame customer service reps and they do bare some of the responsibility. But management continues to treat reps like garbage. Making a lot of reps have a bad attitude about the company and their jobs. We as reps could do better but if we suck think about how bad our managers are. Kingforg has mentioned the union as being part of the problem. They are not the problem they are there because management is piss poor. Management is petty and drunk with power.

HP 6500

Any other stores get their POP today? Hopefully this means the release is forthcoming.

I was completely unaware that this phone had a 1.3 megapixel camera.

Guess I just decided on a new phone to carry.

Phone insurance?

I have had my first phone Samsung 426 for almost two years and its still working OK. But I am getting ready to replace my phone and am curious about what your experience has been re: phone insurance. Is it really worth the price? I am planning on getting the new Nokia flip phone. Are different brands more durable, not as risky? Does the 'flip' phone matter - more insurable problems? I have friends that have the old regular Nokia phones and have had them for years with no problems. I am just wondering if its really worth the price of insurance, or are you better off just keeping the premium and covering any potential loss yourself. I know Consumer Reports in general does not think insurance on appliances for example is worth the price...

Innostream A11 on Cingular

Ive been checking out the innostream a11 for a short period of time and i was wondering if all the features from cingular would work on this phone considering its 850 and 1900 freq's?

Would the net, account, and otherthings work on this phone that is already linked in my v3? or would it be just the service that would work?

Nokia 6682 on Cingular Puerto Rico website

The Nokia 6682 is listed on Cingular's Puerto Rico website. Does anyone know if this means that Cingular USA will begin selling the 6682 anytime soon. The phone is marked as becoming available in July 2005 here on Phonescoop, so it has probably been delayed...any news, please post.

thanks

Cingular phone back to ATT/Cingular?

If you buy a new (ie 6102 Nokia) phone from Cingular and the reception in the Cingular only towers does not work out, can you go back to the ATT/Cingular towers on the new phone? Does anyone know for sure? 😳

Phone replacement?

I will be replacing my phone soon (formerly ATT will be switching to straight Cingular). I know I have 30 days to make sure I like Cingular over ATT. Just curious, and I doubt I will, but if I switch back to ATT, how does that work with the new phone? Do I have to pay full price then?

Bottom Line on Tethering

I am wondering what the final answer is on tethering to a laptop when you have a PDA data plan. I would like to get a phone or a PDA with a pda data plan, but would also like to be able to tether to my laptop for the occasional time I don't have internet access for the laptop. I realize they can not make a distinction but the tethering would be a backup approach and not a full time thing for the laptop.

What is the final say on this in terms of what plan and cost I would need?

Thanks,
Mark

No Voicemail Alert

Ok, so for the past 3 days when someone calls me and leaves a voicemail I don't get a voicemail alert. (1 New Voicemail). Everytime I miss a call I have to call my voicemail to see if they left a message or not. At first I thought that it could be that they are integrating towers in my area... but then I decided to call cust care. They said it is a known issue with the network. Apparently Dennis (huracain) had something to do with it.
Ok, here's my disbelieve. Dennis didn't come anywhere near the North East of Florida. And this happened more than 2 weeks ago. How com NOW it's causing problems with voicemail in North East FL? Did cust care just said this to me to get me off the phone? Anyone knows what really is going on?

Prepaid question

I have a question for the Cingular reps. I have an unlocked phone that will work with Cingular and I am thinking about doing Cingular prepaid. Can I go to a local store and just get a prepaid SIM card, or do I have to actually buy a go phone as well? I REALLY don't want to buy a go-phone, because I already have a good phone, I just want the Cingular prepaid SIM card so that I can do prepay. Thank you for your help!

Upgrade question

Hi everyone,

I am able to upgrade on the 30th of this month and I just had some questions about the current line up of phones that Cingular offers. I am interested in the s710a but I was wondering if anything new was coming out that would surpass the s710a as far as features go. I have heard good reviews on this phone but can anyone tell me of any negatives in their experience with the phone.

Thanks for your help.

New flip phones coming?

My Verizon contract is (finally) over this month, and I'm switching to Cingular. Everyone I call on a routine basis is on Cingular, so with their M-to-M it makes sense.

The only problem is that I don't really like any of their current flip phones. The v551 is the closest thing to what I want, but frankly the front cover looks cheap as hell, and since I'm gonna have it for two years, I want the latest possible model.

Does anyone know if they plan to introduce any new flip phones in the next month or so? I read something about them getting the v635, but haven't seen it on their site yet.

Nokia or Motorola?????

Hey everyone I have a tech question I guess. I recently purchased a moto v551 here in Chicago and noticed the service was terrible dropped calls etc..... I then went to the cingular store and got a nokia 6230 and this phone is like the exact opposite full signal everywhere no drops!!!! is this the case with all moto's for cingular or is it just maybe here in Chicago? Someone was telling me nokia's are definitely better phones for signal purposes. I really like the looks of the moto's better but am weary of giving them another shot. Does anyone have any info on this matter????
