ATT-to-Cingular Ripoff -- BEWARE

I had a contract with ATT for 2 years that had features I needed -- North American Plan (for use in Canada), ability to freeze my account while I am out of the country for up to 6 months, new phone every year, etc. With the migration to Cingular all of that is gone. Now I am not allowed to put a suspension on my account while out of the country (except a one-time 30-day suspension). Cingular does not have a North American plan so calls within Canada are proibitive and their coverage (at least in the NYC area) is the worst of all the carriers. When my phone broke I was not allowed to change my plan to the Cingular without penalty even though Cingular does not sell the GSM ATT phones to replace the one that died. Just about everything tha...

Cingular rep/expert advice needed please

I am considering switching my ATT/Cingular to the Cingular only plan. Mainly because I need better reception in my home. I currently have the Samsung 426. It has been a problem since i first got it, mostly because I am told i 'yell' at everyone on it and I cannot turn it down. I have been wanting to get a new phone of that reason and I NEED better single strength in my home.

Two questions, will I honestly have better reception switching to a Cingular phone? And in your expert opinion would you think I would have better reception with the new Nokia 6102 or the Motorola 551?

Finally, do you think my poor reception in my earthberm home is caused by the ATT/Cingular system or the Samsung phone or both? Am I making the best decision sw...

THANK YOU TO ALL THAT RESPONDED TO MY POSTING!!!!!!

I had posted an issue a few weeks ago with the title "SERIOUS ISSUES WITH CINGULAR BUSINESS PRACTICES!!"in which I was having trouble receiving the rate plan that I had signed up for.

I had spoken to several customer service agents via phone, the store representative and store manager in which I had purchased the phone. I was flabbergasted that they were all unable to help me. Worst of all is that they all told me that the plan, I had a signed contract for, did not exist, and I could nor would not receive it. I was quite stunned that Cingular would not honor a signed contract.

But I must thank everyone that responded to my post on this site. Thank you to simplymarcus, shayby, texaswireless, ginandjuice, cingularreppy, shscaptain1...

Two 'Cingular' stores one block apart - two stories

I went to two different Cingular stores that are about one block apart in Springfield Missouri trying to find out the best plan and phone for getting better reception in my home. The first "Cingular" store said switch to straight Cingular phone/plan - the former ATT now Cingular store suggested I stay with the ATT/Cingular phone and plan because that was the best. Is this a turf war and how can I know which is the best for me?

Best reception? Nokia 6012 or Motorola 551

I know that the Nokia 6012 has not been released yet, but will be soon. Is there a way to read the specs or go to a website somewhere that rates the phones so someone knows which phone performs better particularly in reception for example? Is there a 'Consumer Reports' type of place that helps the consumer make informed decisions?

I do value the Cingular reps also giving input and very much appreciate that as well.

I appreciate this forum, thanks to each of you for sharing your input. Thanks!

3220 is NOT discontinued

I for Cingular and I sale that phone every day. I am also in a Nokia Contest for the 6102. I receive points for selling the 3220. I KNOW that the 3220 has NOT been discontinued. I can confirm that officially. I have direct access to Cingulars main information system that gives updates about new phones way before they come out or if they are discontinued. I wish that people would quit creating stupid threads about things they know nothing about. Just go to cingular.com and the phone is still for sale from Cingular on there. Please send your responses.

Cingular Discount vs. Verizon Discount

As stated on here previously - I tried Verizon but because I didn't like the LG 8100 (after trying it out) and none of their other phones turn me on - I am thinking of going with Cingular - as it appears they have better phones and don't cripple Bluetooth.

My problem: Verizon will give me an 18% discount for being a a retiree with the Department of State (U.S. Government) - does anyone know if Cingular will match that discount?

Thanks

Phones to be dumped on ebay... Kingfrog?

Look in the next few months for Nokia 6102 and possibly Nokia 6682 handsets to be dumped on ebay. Those are the prizes for the current Nokia contest.

This dump should bring down the cost due to the supply. It will be short lived but keep an eye out.

Cingular using Dobson / Cell One towers in upstate NY?

Cingular expanded into Dutchess/Ulster/Orange Counties NY last year but up until recently had abysmal service in those areas...They were mostly using TMobile towers with a few Cingular owned towers sprinkled in... I was pleasantly surprised recently when my wife had continuous service in the area with no interruptions or dropped calls... I dialed *611 to see what network she was on and it turned out to be Cell One...

Is Cingular in an agreement to use Dobson's towers as it's default in this area rather than putting up their own infrastructure?

Cingular Call Center Reps

Are any other call center reps still able to get on this forum? I tried to get here yesterday but access had been blocked. Now I can view it today but can't login, or find any info about phones, which is my main use for the site in the first place (other than to vent, that is). I had to get on in the internet cafe just to log on.

Can anyone else get on? And if so, whats going on with my login then? Was it something I said? 😛

Maybe switching from Verizon to Cingular - some questions.

I'm thinking of switching from Verizon to Cingular but have some questions so any help would be appreciated. The main reason for my switching is that I'm sick and tired of Verizon disabling features on thier phones and then having to pay them 1.99 here or 2.99 there to get them back.

1) How is Cingulars coverage in the Eastern part of the United States from New York down to Florida and parts of the Midwest (Kansas area)? This is where most of my family lives.

2) Does Cingular disable features on thier phones? What I'm looking for is a good phone with camera/video capability and fully functioning bluetooth with High speed internet connection to check e-mails periodically.

3) Is there a plan that offers unlimited internet useage (...

Rebate??

Does anyone know how long it'll take for Cingular to get the rebate stuff? I sent it in over a month ago, and when I go to check it, there's no record they've even received it. Should I call in and ask about it, or is this normal?

Cingular Error Message...

I just tried calling a friend of mine and I got an error message that said "The number you are trying to call is not allowed from this line. Please call 611 for customer service." So I did and they had no idea what it was. Anyone ever heard of this?

Another thing also is that the lady told me that I went over my data usage by a lil but so I was trying to figure out how because I dont use the internet that much. I told her I use AOL IM and she said that is probably it but I have been told that AOL IM uses text messaging instead of KB. Does anyone know for a fact?

Thanks in advance 😳

How much longer will "this" be around????????

I have an old Nokia 5165 that works on a TDMA signal and it also has analog back up. Does anyone know how much longer TDMA will be around? I live in Gainesville, FL. area code 352 and zipcode 32609.
I had a moto v551 that used the GSM signal or band, but GSM is pretty bad here, there seems to be 3 CDMA towers to every 1 GSM towers here.
The TDMA has no problems going through thick walls or metal roofs.
I know know they will be doing away with TDMA but how soon will that happen?
Thank you in advance.
