Best Technology on Cingular?

New promotions since the merger hint at Cingular having the best technology around, as being a selling point to new customers. When comparing wireless technologies, right now we mainly have GSM and CDMA, and of course the old school analog network. There are a couple of others too, and when you get into what carriers offer "digital" service. When 2005 gets here, many new things will be on tap in wireless, with carriers upgrading to broadband-like cell phone data speeds, like UMTS/W-CDMA here on Cingular late in the year.

If you are looking to be with a carrier that is looking to remain at being the pioneer of wireless, then Cingular looks to be at the forefront of technology. The fastest data speeds that will be offered in the U.S. on...

Limited International Text Message Partners

I switched from AT&T GSM to Cingular GSM but I am wondering when Cingular plans to update their International Text Messaging Partners. With AT&T, you could text with 5 carriers in the UK. With Cingular, they only have agreements with 2 carriers. The funny thing is that all the sales persons in the Cingular store and 800 number believe that Cingular/AT&T should be the same for this? Anyone have info when Cingular will update this? -Marc

Well, that didn't work to create a link so here is the shortcut.

PS, Verizon Has 6000 something votes already, more than double that of the next competitor sprint, so to the trolls here I am not attempting to swing the vote.

LG and Cingular, service and quality

I've owned practically every brand cell phone out there, from Audiovox, Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, and Siemens to name a few. And by far, LG makes one of the finer phones around. Some phones, especially on GSM/GPRS technology, seem to make a buzzing and static sound, but with the LG L1400, that seems to be at a minimal. The quality feel of the phone and the service of Cingular make the combination quite a good one.

It will be interesting to see what phone(s) LG will be releasing late in 2005 with Cingular's unveiling of the UMTS/W-CDMA network.

Cingular Customers....Donate To The Tsunami Relief!!!

Cingular Wireless to use text messaging to attract tsunami-relief donations

By Mike Dano (RCR News)
Jan 5, 2005

Starting Thursday Cingular Wireless will send text messages to all of its 46 million customers, giving them a chance to make $1 or $2 donations to the Asian tsunami disaster relief effort, charges that will appear on their monthly bills.

Cingular's offering mirrors that of a variety of other European and Asian carriers, which have set up similar text-messaging donation schemes. The move also marks a further evolution of the U.S. text-messaging market, which has traditionally trailed that of the more advanced European and Asian wireless markets.

If you live in the area, please show your support by showing up, giving out these fliers, and stoping these people.

what scares me the most..., is the last 3 lines of this flyer.... that they have succeeded in stopping many towers....

I think its time, we stop them!!!!

Gait/GSM, Need some help

In the middle of Dec. there are some posts in this forum that discuss how you can you use your GAIT phone on a GSM plan and you will not roam.

"Yep, those lovely gait phones can now benefit from the GSM nation plans. I set my sister up on it over thanksgiving while she was visiting. I'm pretty sure we have to select the technology as GSM/GAIT (as opposed to GSM) and enter the IMEI, ESN, and SIM, but then there should be no problems."

That is a direct quote to help describe what I am talking about. I called CS numerous times and tried to explain this to them and they say I will be charged roaming fees and this does not work. Can any one please help me out with this? The new GSM plans are cheaper but I like the coverage my nokia 6340i ...

Agent Debit

Could someone please tell me which Call Center Agent Debit is based out of. I'm an Operations Manager and based upon the rubbish I see him post, I need to go over his QA's to see if he's actually like this to the customer. I may have my own opinions for many things but his overall negativity towards our customers is disheartening and its this kind of attitude that directly affects our churn and our overall customer satisfaction. We at Cingular need to work especially hard because with the migration issues and customer's not understanding completely why they need to migrate their service over to the New Cingular, our Customer Care reps need to be able to explain why this is happening and how its going to be of benefit to them all the while...

*.sit & Moto

I haven't had any experience with a Motorola and a *.sit file. I acquired this file as a "solution" to the disabled DUN profile via BT. I've scrutinized every bit of the file and it seems legit, I could not find any malicious code.

Question being i'm still rather cautious before loading it up on my phone and wanted to know if anyone has had experiences with this... Success or Failure?

Also, those that have had Success... What would be the best way to load it up on the phone? Not necessarily the easiest, but the most reliable.

Thanks in advance.

Does reporting a big wireless service company to the FCC or BBB really do any good?

While it seems most of the complaints would be just plain dumb (from my experience anyway) I'm sure there are legit complaints that should be made and resulting action taken.

So with a company as big as Cingular or say Verizon or any of the other providers does a complaint to the FCC or the BBB really do anything? I'm not so sure because with the number of subscirbers there's got to be a certain expectation of complaints. I'm thinking that unless a decent percentage of the subscriber base complains nothing happens. (if you want I'm sure you could throw in politics, etc into the array too I'd be sure almost nothing got done)

NO MORE FREE PHONES TIME FOR EBAY.............

I keep seeing reps and other people bitching about customers wanting free phones. Why do you care? Does it take money from you guys?

They keep comparing it to cable companies and car dealerships and other stupid things like that. Well it is true cable companies don't give you free tv's, but they don't lock you into a contract either. You can leave at any time with no termination fee. Satellite tv from what I understand makes you sign a contract, but they give you free equipment. I for one would not mind paying full price for a phone if I would not have to sign a contract. I do not think it is bad for a customer like me who pays 100 dollars a month, 2400 dollars every 2 years to get a 139 dollar phone for free. It doesn't hurt you or...

Two Wrongs Don't Make a Right

My February 2005 issue of Consumer Reports just arrived in the mail. They have a very comprehensive review, based upon the experiences of 39,000 of their subscribers, of Overall Satisfaction and Performance ratings of nationwide cellular telephone carriers in seventeen US metropolitan area markets.

With such a large survey sampling, the results are highly valid, statistically. It is very interesting reading for anyone who is considering their first phone, or who may be considering changing carriers.

If you don't subscribe, Consumer Reports is available on newsstands or in your local public library.
