Deutsche Telekom Confirms Keeping T-Mobile USA Unit

FRANKFURT -(Dow Jones)- Deutsche Telekom AG (DT) Friday confirmed it has decided to keep its U.S. wireless arm, T-Mobile USA Inc.

The Wall Street Journal earlier Friday reported that the German telecoms company decided to keep the unit, quelling rumors that the fourth-biggest U.S. cellular carrier is up for sale. It cited people familiar with the situation.

Deutsche Telekom management has long debated whether to sell T-Mobile USA, merge it with another U.S. wireless operator or keep it and continue to invest billions of dollars in its network.

As recently as May, Deutsche Telekom Chief Executive Kai-Uwe Ricke was floating the idea to investors of selling the U.S. operation, but he decided against it, partly because the response w...

Prepaid service: Cingular or T-Mobile?

I wanted to get my Telus LG VX-3200 activated on Verizon, but appearently it's not possible, so I am forced to switch to plan B: My good old unlocked GSM. I live in Canada, but I am very likely to move in the U.S, and I am not familiar with the U.S GSM carriers. I wish to use prepaid service, and I don't really know which carrier is the best. Which provider has the widest network? Which one offers the best service? Which one is the best quality/price ratio? I am to move either in California or in Delaware.

I was just looking at the mytmobile, and looking into buying a new phone, or upgrading. anyway when i was looking at my choices and stuff, some of there phones had prices after a 2 YEAR CONTRACT RENEWAL!!!! I'm pissed! if tmobile starts to do this, they will lose a LOT of there customers, and not be able to keep up with there competition!

has anyone heard are they going to start to offer the 2 year contracts for new customers, and upgrading customers?

08/21/2005 20:40:18 EST Debate Over Cell Phone Towers Growing
By JIM SALTER
AP Business Writer

After two years of boisterous meetings and litigation, the 150-member Southampton Presbyterian Church surrounded by closely-spaced red-brick homes is at odds with its neighbors over an issue that has nothing to do with theology.

T-Mobile plans to construct a cell phone antenna along the chimney of the two-story, 89-year-old white-stone building. In return, the company will pay rent to the church.

"That revenue is in exchange for our potential well-being, our peace of mind and o...

Deutsche Telekom Not Selling T-Mobile USA

http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/050916/germany_us_deutsche_t ... »

"Ricke said then that Deutsche Telekom would decide by the end of 2005 how it will proceed with costly investments in a 3G network, either bidding alone or gathering partners for a joint bid to operate one."

""On the contrary, we are now in the process of preparing for the next step. That includes taking part in the tender for new (wireless) spectrum," he said in remarks posted on the paper's Web site ahead of publication on Saturday.
"

"The speculation focused on the U.S. subsidiary's lack of a 3G network and entrenched competition from bigger rivals like Sprint Corp. and Verizon Communications Inc.

Unlocked Motorola Black V3 Razr

Is there any difference between the European version & the American version unlocked of the black razr? Also does the European version have AIM built in like the American one? I am thinking of getting one from Florida but it's a European one with video in it. I am going to use it with T-Mobile USA. This is my first unlocked phone and I was wondering once I get it do I need to call T-Mobile to lock it with them or can I just put the sim card in and leave it? Thanks!

Where is T-Mobile's coverage headed?

hey, I'm considering getting a T-Mobile phone but was curious about something. They seem to have really good reviews in terms of customer service and stuff, and they appear to have a good line-up of phones, but what do you guys think about their coverage?

I've looked at their coverage map, and it just seems to be spotty, which isn't necessarily a big deal since I live in a bigger city, but I am wondering if anyone knows what their goals are. They seem to be sort of the "smaller" (in the US at least) carrier with cheaper prices, and friendly plans, but not as good of coverage all over. Are they going to continue to expand and try to challenge the other big carriers, or continue to be strong and do well in their little niche?

Things...

Moto v360 (and other T-mobile) news

NOTE: I posted this in the v360 forum, but there were some interesting tidbits in it that I thought a few of you might like to read. Enjoy.

After talking to someone at t-mobile on the phone and getting nowhere, I went into one of their stores ready to just settle for something they have in-stock right now since my Nokia 3650 is old and falling apart.

It was killing me because the Samsung slider and the Nokia flip don't friggin' have Bluetooth which I have grown used to. Anyway, out of desparation, I just started talking to the rep there about the lack of Bluetooth in the t-mobile lineup and how old the v330 is and he actually said they have a replacement coming. He has actually seen it and said it would be exclusive to t-mobile.

I ...

Who has what plan in here?

Are there people who are on T-Mobile's largest plan, the "Get More Supra?"

I am on the smalles plan, the basic plan. :-)

What plan do you all have, and what do you think is the most popular plan?

Customer Care

This is for the customer's out there, and I want your honest opinion. I don't for the life of me understand why it is that it seems for every little problem that you run into, you have to call customer care. Then, when we tell you yes, you broke your phone and no, we are not going to give you a new one for free, you think that by asking for a supervisor, or calling back in that someone will give it to you. Keep in mind, we do back each other up, and when one says no, almost all will. Or when you go over your minutes, and you want a credit, that somehow it is our fault that you couldn't just use a simple #646# to check your minutes throughout the month? Is it really that hard to do that??? Honestly, why can't you just be an adult and si...

what frequencies are prevalent around Birmingham, AL

A friend just bought the Voq Professional phone on closeout at Woot. It is set for the Cingular frequencies, and she currently has a T-Mobile account.

Is the 850/900 issue a big deal in the Alabama area? Or are there enough 1800/900 frequencies that she might see decent phone service.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

We might test it with my Cingular SIM to compare the difference.
