Sony Ericsson S710a

ok, I've been thinking about getting this phone, and i talked with my cousin-in-law (who works for cingular) and he's going to see if he can do an employee discount for me. In the meantime, i asked him about unlimited Internet.

Here's my not so well made plan:

1.get the phone and USB cable (i have no bluetooth for my computer)

2. get unlimited data plan for $25.99 (that media plan)

3. hook my phone up to my computer and use that to surf the web (using the phone as a modem)

I cannot get DSL or cable, only 56k and satellite are available (56k i have now, and satellite is wayyyy too expensive)

so, my question is, can i use the Internet on my home computer through the cellphone without any problems? i'm in the EDGE network, and...

Has anyone else ever had problems with the phone not ringing or vibrating, even though it is in normal (not silent) mode?
This has happened to me 2 times in the month that I have owned the phone. The phone works, as you can see the screen telling you that a call is coming in, just any audible message is dead. Likewise the text message tone doesnt work.
Turning the phone off and off solves it right away, but it is kind of annoying if this is a sign of things to come...
Are there any known software glitches that cause this or is this common? I almost never turn my cell phones off, but then again none of my previous phones has as many features/had as advanced software. Maybe I just need to turn the phone off every few days..

Has anyone had any trouble with the memory card reader and drivers??? I had it working... My computer crashed and now I have it working again but the computer doesn't recognize the device drivers for the card reader... I tried to unistall and reinstall the drivers but it still doesn't work 😡 It's f-ing frustrating...!!!

Any chance there's a Canadian Carrier that has this phone? I've looked through Telus, Rogers, And Bell.

I bought the phone a few days after it was released but in the end i ended up taking the phone back. There were several reasons for this return. 1. The phoen forze a few times 2.It was very slow. 3. Some of the features were messing up. If i bought a phone now do you think that it would be bug free?

Do you unlock this phone with a code or does it have to have software? If its a code does any one know where I can get this code?

I've noticed on a lot of Sony Ericsson phones that the vibrator is PATHETIC and i was wandering if the same would be true on this phone. Anybody know? And also I've heard the ring tones play pretty well on this phone...are they like moto quality or....whatever..cause I have an LG and the ring tones SUCK 😛 . THANKS! 😁

on my sony s710a i am having a problem with answering calls with just swiveling it open. is it even possible to use the swivel to answer and end calls? if anyone knows can you please tell me how thank you

Don't know if it mentions this in the manual or not (never read the thing) but I just discovered that when in camera mode you can turn the led light on by sliding the phone lock button on side (uhh, bottom i guess when holding sideways)

A few days ago someone posted a link to a plug-in for PV author to make the videos full screen. I can't for the life of me dig it up. Does anyone have a link to that threat or to the plug-in site?

Hi all. I thought I would share what I found in regards to a holster for this phone. It looks pretty nice. I wish they had just covered the camera area though. Other then that, you can't beat a $1.99 price, its a sale. 🙂 Let me know what you guys think. I will try this, along with the official SE ICE-30, one that covers everything. That is $17.50 though, anybody found a lower price?

Is there a way to set the camera to flash instead of using the camera light? I've seen multiple sites with this phone say it has a flash feature. I don't know if they meant the camera light, or if there is an actuall flash.

how is the instant messaging (AIM) on this phone?? all i want is a phone that uses AIM and bluetooth (my sanyo 5600 doesn't have bluetooth). since this phone has such a great look and has bluetooth, my only question is how good/bad is the AIM. does it connect quickly? does cingular have a slow network? a few replys would help dearly. thanks!

more complicated than i thought but cool.

what type of ringers does this phone use ?
midi, .wav, etc. ?

can i simply load them to the memory stick and

I was just wondering if you could send and receive files via bluetooth, and how? Could you transfer stuff directly to the phone or just the MS? Is there any way we could access the phone internal memory?

As for the MP3 player. Do some of you experience that sometimes your phone is set on RANDOM for some reason, when it was set on OFF? Also, is there any way to delete cingular tone and fab farm?? please, these are very annoying when playing straight MP3s on the phone. I wish they were MIDI files instead damnit. As someone stated on here, the MP3 players on our phone is basic, no repeat feature. I love the minimize feature though =)

here is my problem: i've lost one of the little foam things that goes over the ear-bud on the headset and am not looking forward to paying $25 bucks for a new headset altogether. is there anyone out there who has a headset/foam things that they're not using? i'm willing to pay whoever it is for them, i've got paypal.
