How is USCC reception in non-USCC areas?

I'm currently with Verizon, and thinking of switching to US Cellular, as it's rated equal to or better than Verizon in Chicago area market. And it's at least $20 per month cheaper.
The only issue I worry about is traveling out of state. I don't do it all that often--less than 20 days per year--so I'm not worried about roaming charges or having more than 50% of calls out of USC markets. I just want to be confident that when I'm driving around Las Vegas, LA, New York, or PA, I'll be able to get service.
Also, assuming I want a phone with just good call quality, reception, and earpiece volumn, and everything else is secondary, what would you recommend? I was thinking the LG 6100, which is what I have with Verizon. I know USC has a limit...

Whats the deal????

I'm sure this subject has been beat to death but I still have yet to find an explanation. I am talking about the phones that US Cellular offers, or more accurately does not offer. I know they don't have any of the newer phones but I would like to know why. USCC has the lowest plan prices of any carrier and, in my opinion, the best coverage/service. I would like to know why they don't offer newer phones like Verizon and Cingular do. Is USCC putting all of their money and other resources into improving their infrastructure? Do they not have enough money to license new phones? If they could offer the phones that Verizon/Cingular offers I think they would be the ultimate carrier. Any ideas?

SpeedTalk

I have not had the oportunity to visit a retail store and try it. Is it working well?

Do both handsets handle SpeedTalk as well as the other? I have a kyo 414 and having gone through the battery issue for a year before somethingws done about it makes me a little wary of another kyocera phone.

What's the general feeling among the group here of the 2 phones?

Thanks

DON'T GET US CELLULAR

I just spent awhile and wrote up a review for US Cellular on this site. It is pending approval.

I just wanted to say US Cellular assured me that I could get out of my 2yr contract if I move outside their local coverage areas. This week I am doing this, but they are badgering me about it. I will post the results of my process here.

Email me if you have any questions.

Speedtalk Plans Not Friendly To Existing Customers

I think it is great that USCC has launched Speedtalk. It is unfortunate that they do not make it easily accessible to existing customers.

We have three phones, and I would gladly pay $10/month per phone to have Speedtalk as an add-on feature - even if I have to pay full retail for compatible hardware. Unfortunately, the only way to get Speedtalk is with a Speedtalk plan. In my case, that would also require me to restart my contract, and lose the $35/1000 and $45/1500 National Plan promos that we currently enjoy.

Frankly, it is not worth it. I will stick with what I have and be happy. The three of us will continue to simply call each other on our phones. It just seems silly to me that I am willing to give USCC an additional $360/y...

6100 Faceplate issue...

😕

Well,
I bought a faceplate for my 6100 and I know that it wi9ll void the warranty. I'm not too worried about that, but here is the issue I have found and was wondering if anyone nows why this happens and if tehre is a solution.

When I install the new faceplate, the speaker for the speakerphone does not work very well. it is a lot quieter than with the original one on. I put the original one on and it worked fine. When you take the original one off and try to use speakerphone without a faceplate it is quite like having the new faceplate installed. So with that said I put the new one on and tried to see if I could get the Speaker phone to work and you have to press really hard on the spot where the speaker is to get it lo...
