Rating Speakerphones...

It seems that there are several folks here who are literally 'phoneoholics', as in, they really have tried nearly every phone that's come out for VZW.

One thing I'd like to ask such folks is... if you had to rate the speakerphone ONLY for each VZW phone, how would it rank? Excellent, good, fair, beyond horrible, what?

I ask 'cuz my next phone will likely have one (my Sammy 530 is great, but lacks one- why Samsung, why??), and I've heard some pretty terrible speakerphones out there. My gf, for example, has a Vox 8610 or somesuch crap on VirginMobile, and the speakerphone on that thing seems to be incredibly weak and lame. ☚ī¸

vzw and number portability???

Just a quick question for anyone who could please shed some light...I've noticed a trend with vzw, and I don't get it with any other carrier...Whenever a customer of ours is either porting in or porting out from vzw, there are certain times where they say they are told they cannot port.

If they are porting out, they all say something to the effect that they were told the phone and tower settings may not accept the number because even though it's in the area it's outside of range??
If someone is porting in, they say something like they are told the markets are different??

Not all of them of course, but the only time I hear that they have to do with vzw...any ideas??

Spam bogs down Nextel , who is next?

Spam Clogs Nextel's SMS System

A spike in spam volume over the past several weeks is hindering the ability of Nextel Communications' customers to send and receive inter-carrier and intra-carrier text messages. The problem, which Nextel says started in mid-March, is resulting in several hours of delays in text message delivery.

A Nextel subscriber who contacted Wireless Week said that text messages are often delivered several hours late and arrive all at once, typically in the middle of the night. Likewise, Nextel's text messaging system has become a popular source of complaints and commentary on online message boards, where Nextel customers have reported several hours of delays getting t...

This can not be happening, but it has!

I have been getting text messages of spam on my phone sice early february of 05. I have spoken to verizon tech support and they think they have found my text email or number on a website that I have never visited. Prior to the spam "mess" I would use the text feature maybe once or twice a month. Sometimes I don't get a spam text for two or three days then I get two or three text spams in one day! I'm at wits end. Verizon I should think about changing my phone number, I have already changed my email address on my phone and that was already a month ago. And it hasn't helped. They also said I could just turn my text service completely off.
I DO NOT want to change my phone number. If anybody there can give any suggestions I would be grateful...

is VZW out of their tree?

I went yesterday for a new every 2 upgrade. I wanted the LG VX7000. They wanted $100 w/2 yr contract!
Do they know there are competitors in the NYC market? Then he quoted me a "generous" 10% discount on a handfree and a USB data cable!

I've got plenty of co-workers with both Cing and T. While I've never been a fan of either and I know VZW has a better network, none are having problems in the area. I'd think that VZW would try to be a bit more competitive in the area.

The phones cost them next to nothing from Korea. Combined with the profit model for the phone call itself.... I think they do pretty well on even the average non biz user, let alone a volume user like myself.

Guess it's time to change.

Phone Accessories

Does anyone have a place online they would recommend for buying wireless phone accessories (chargers, cases, holsters, batteries, data kits, etc)? Something tells me that Verizon's prices aren't the best. Thanks!

Bluetooth security

I heard on Public Radio today that a college student has developed a type of gun that enables hacking into bluetooth equipped cellphones and PDAs from a distance of over a mile. The report said that this device enables the hacker to retrieve all messages, passwords, conversations, etc. from the hacked device.

Does anyone know what, if anything, is being done to counteract this type of security breach?

EV-DO vs. WCDMA

It is not about the speed.
why does wcdma run on three different frequencies worldwide? 2100, 1900 and 850? so, how is 2100 wcdma phone backwards compatible with 900/1800 european networks? this will create a new wave of multiband phones...
as far as i understand EVDO runs on the same frequencies (cellphone and pcs?) just requires a dedicated slice of spectrum. so it is fully compatible with 1xrtt.
I am confused %)

MIR

I recently received a letter saying my MIR had been declined because I didn't send the box top upc. I did, but they must not have received it. I called the cr and asked if there was anything I could do. The guy asked if I had made a copy. I said no, the rep that sold me the phone said copies aren't accepted. He then told me there was nothing they could do. Does anyone on here know anything I can do to possibly get my MIR in some way, shape or form? Thanks
