I need help please!

Ok - I have a dilemma. I am a current Verizon customer who is ready to upgrade my phone with the New Every Two deal. I need a phone without a camera due to my work. All I am looking for is a non-camera, flip phone with an external display. I prefer Motorola or Samsung. This phone does not seem to exist in any Verizon store.

Now - Radio shack is selling the Motorola V260, which I would love to have. I even went to the RS store and got one - but returned it the next day because they lied about honoring the New Every Two (they did not - so they ended up chaging me for the phone). Verizon stores are not carrying the V260 and no one can say when or even if they might! I really feel cheated if I have to pay the new customer price fo...

Bluetooth Security Issues

Can somebody please explain the security issues surrounding the Bluetooth phone concept?

Let's face it, the wireless networks in most neighborhoods are vulnerable as all heck. There are theives & hackers driving around with WI-FI laptops, downloading financial data from home networks.

Bluetooth uses the same frequency band (2.4 GHz) as most home 802.11b wireless networks. How is BT different, that it raises an alarming concern with Verizon now and not with the other carriers?

Personally, I'm much more concerned about the likelihood of what can already happen to my home LAN than the likelihood that someone will follow my phone around within 30 feet, hack in without the passkey and steal my phone book or something.

Data Plans

Is it just me, or are Verizon's data plans ridiculously overpriced compared to the other services? I always thought that the pricing, plans, and services were relatively similar between the big players (which some obvious minor differences) but it seems to me that Verizon's data plans are twice are expensive (or half as value) than the other services. Am i wrong?

6015i

Got two 6015i's Monday. Verizon gets them returned Tuesday. While the phones held a good conversation locally, while calling long distance the conversation sounded as though it was being conducted underwater. Calling the same # on my 6-yr old Kyocera didn't reproduce this issue.
But that didn't bother us as much as the text messaging problem. No matter what phone# or email address we sent a text message to, neither phone would save the phone# or email address for future text messaging. Both my wife & I tried both phones using the included instructions & finally gave up.
The phones would only vibrate for an incoming text message. When set to "silent" for a normal phone call, the phone screen & keypad would only flash the background light...

Verizon using the Sprint Network?

Dose anyone know if you can force a Verizon phone to use the Sprint PCS (1900) network? Say you have a weak signal where you live but a friend has a strong PCS signal could you make your phone use the 1900 band instead of the 800.

If this is possible would Vernon charge you because you would be roaming on another network?

Chinatown Phones

I was looking through the chinese newpapers of San Francisco. Well at least looking at the pictures of phones. And I saw prices or at least I think they are of the phone and they are selling them with plans and phones extremely cheaper than else where such at verizon itself. I have gotten phones and plans from some of these places before, they try to make u buy the phone and plan their with their lies, but sometimes the prices drop and drop . Anyone have thoughts about this?

Hmm... they brought back the Local Digital Choice 600 Plan

Hmm... VZW brought back the Local Digital Choice 600 plan (600 anytime minutes, unlimited N&W, unlimited IN-calling, for $39), just in time for the holidays.

Nice entry-level plan, only downside is that it makes the LDC 700 plan pointless. That plan needs some buffs some day.

Still no NEW VZW plans though. Both the promos they have out now (LDC 600, 1000 Local Anytime w/free LD) have been around before. They don't seem particularly worried. Interesting.

Anyone recently switch from Cingular GSM to Verizon?

I've been a Verizon customer for 8 years now, so have never tried GSM service. I was wondering what differences people who have switched from GSM to Verizon have noticed, other than customer service. Do you notice any difference in call quality? Notice any difference in the places where you can use your phone, such as in buildings?
I know Cingular has some better plans and better phones available, so have been tempted to look into switching. But I wonder if the call quality and reception is as good as Verizon's. I live in the Chicago area, where reception is probably good as it gets for most carriers (no mountains--pretty flat).

Mobile Web 2 and Messenger

Hi Everyone,

I'm still using Mobile Web 1 on my Audiovox 9900 which has Yahoo Messenger on the browser. I've played with Mobile Web 2 in Verizon stores. It seems to have less features including no Yahoo Messenger on the browser. Yahoo Messenger is available via GIN Mobile IM, but I don't want to go that route. Did Verizon make a patch to remove Mobile IM if you don't want it?

Has anyone found a way to access Yahoo Messenger with the Mobile Web 2 browser?

Thanks!

Tom

Tired of VZW Phone Selection

I have been a loyal VZW customer since 1997. I saw the new Motorola MPX displayed on this web site with a PDA and Qwerty keyboard in a reasonable form factor. I would love to get this phone, but once again it is only offered in GSM. I am seriously considering changing carriers. I have been happy with my VZW service and reception but want more from my phone. I use my phone for text messaging and calendar functions at work, I also use Get It Now daily.

Anyone have any reception experience with Cingular in the Huntsville, AL area?
