Customer Service ( a general response to the Eric Lin saga)

I wonder sometimes why the members of these forums seem to feel that customer service for the wireless industry has a right to play by different rules than any other industry.

I have been a carpenter's assistant, a restaurant cashier, a retail cashier, a tutor, a teacher, a cook, a research assistant, and wireless salesperson.

In any of those other positions, there was one rule for customer service- perception matters, the facts do not. That is what the aphorism 'the customer is always right' means.

If someone in my restaurant ordered a sandwich, and despite a clear menu description, they sent it back with a declaration that it was not what they expected, guess what? I took it back. I had to. I made fun of them to my co-worke...

Question re pre-paid account/locking the phone

I have a new unlocked GSM phone. I want to take it to Egypt with me in a month for my vacation. If I have it activated now with a Cingular or T-Mobile pre-paid "Go Phone" type of plan where you just pay ahead for a certain number of minutes, will they "lock" the phone so that it just works on their GSM band, or will the phone remain unlocked so that all I have to do is change the SIM card to an Egyptian one when I get to Egypt? I just want to know if I will have to un-lock the phone before I go. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Thoughts on the Sync...

My upgrade date is coming up next week and I am considering going with the Sync. For those of you that have it or have experience with it, what do you think about it? Samsungs have never been too hot with Cingular but the D807 hasn't seemed to have any problems.

Cingular PDA Plans

I was thinking about Cingular but do ALOT of texting and since Cingular doesn't have unlimited text plans I'd go with PDA plans to use email. How much would it cost to use unlimited PDA for email, camera messaging, etc...?

new aircards

OK I got my office to purchase both a
Option GT Max 3.6 AND [!] a Sierra Wireless Air-card 875. Both seem good so far. I work in Fresno, CA, in the office i work in i only get 2 bars of 3G but both seem to work well in my preliminary testing.
Seeing as we can't rate or discuss these officially, anybody have any questions or test ideas?
I'm going to take these out in the "field (s)" and test them for real next week.

Eric Lin and the cingular adventures.

Classic. Just had my chance to read it and it was wonderful. Not because I care about carriers but because you people are crazy. It is a simple case of incompetence that could happen with any carrier, he was pissed off and it just happened to happen with cingular.

But already in a area where people take their brand loyalties way too seriously, (half you people should get your corporate logos tattooed on your forehead) the verizon kids went for the kill and the cingular kids cried and pointed fingers and ran off in a fuss. When if this was verizon it would have happened the same exact way, roles reversed.

Plus if this was any other customer you would have torn into him using the anonymity you so love, part of the break down was the fact...

Any chances of Cingular buying SunCom?

๐Ÿคจ What do you guys think? I think that it's just a matter of time. Just like it's a matter of time for someone to buy Alltel.

Someone Please Explain About Your Phone As A Moduem....

hey guys,

i just need to clear this up, i hear some people say that you can use your phone to browse the web on your laptop, but i know you can't use media net for that. I basicly have the following questions.

1) Is there any restrictions with laptops using the phones as moduems?

2) Is the speed crippled?

3) What sort of data plan you need for this?

4) What sort of charges will occur?
