MEdia Works Gone

A search on Cingular's site returns 2 results for media works. Clicking on either results in "page not found".
I'm a total newbie but I want to get a Nokia 6620 and tether it to my Mac via bt. I have been trying to do the research myself but it seems Tmo is shutting down ports on tzones and now media works is no more. I am trying to choose between these two providers. Any feedback would be appreciated.

UMTS...the first phones we see

Cingular announced that the first phones we will see on the new UMTS network to be launched in the fourth quarter of 2005 will come from Nokia, LG, and Motorola.

Does anyone know what kind of models we might see from the three manufacturers and which would be the one to go with?

-Nokia...always seeming like a cellular natural, sporting user friendly and high quality phones with a commitment to innovation.

-LG...once a not so known brand, they are becoming a household name in cell phones with a determination to be one of the best.

-Motorola...with a few not so great phones in recent history, they are making a come back and with a vengence to higher quality and better phones.

Good choices Cingular.

850 Mhz or 800 Mhz?

Not too long ago, I upgraded to a Siemens S56 phone. Love it! It's got everything I need - bluetooth, speakerphone, etc. Shortly thereafter it was discontinued because it was on the 850 band & ATT was moving to the 800 band.

Phonescoop says that the terms 800 & 850 are interchangeable.

To make matters more complicated, Cingular's website shows quite a few phones on the 850 spectrum. So, is there really a difference between 800 & 850 and if so, wouldn't you think Cingular's 850 would be the predominant frequency going forward?

Thanks in advance for your opinoins!

Petition Post

I posted a petition message in the phonescoop.com forum pleaing to let Cain back in.

I would people to reply to that post agreeing that Cain should be let back in.

If we maybe get enough people agreeing to this maybe he would be let back in.

my take on 64k sim cards and their actual use. please fill in the gaps

the 64k sim aside from a little more space to put just as little more information on the sim only uses the extra space to not confuse customers. there is an appication that is loaded onto the 64k sims. it comes with a single alpha tag. where it says "CINGULAR" on the screen, thats an alpha tag. the alpha tag lets you know what network you are currently using. this has never worked accurately.

Anyway, the application on the new 64k sim card tells your phone which network to use primarily, this means that you can have a sim card which will choose either an AT&T network or a CINGULAR network as a primary network MNC (mobile network code) this is all completely random and you will not know which card uses which network primarily.

Amazon Phone Prices, yet another example of Cingular' overpricing of equipment!

FYI Amazon is selling Moto phones w/o contract for less than 2 year agreement price with cingular ($150.00 mail in rebate).

When to switch

Hi, I'm currently an ATT customer and have been thinking of upgrading my phone (Nokia 6800) since it's acting funny and switching over to Cingular. Thing is, I'm in CT now, will be in OR next month, and my phone # is a Portland, OR. If I went to something like a BestBuy here, and got a new phone, would I be able to get customer service out in Portland at another Best Buy? Or should I just wait 'till I'm out there? I also work for a company with a FAN with ATT, do I get similar discounts from Cingular?

TIA!

Advice for helping a customer

I have a customer who has had duplicate billing for text messages on every bill. Every month he comes in and we get him a credit back, but I'm sure it's annoying for him to deal with on a monthly basis. I'm not kidding, that each month without fail his text messages come up wrong. He's paying for media basic and doesn't even use 200 of the messages. On the bill, it show a section for MB text and pay per use text. Usually it will have a few under each title. He's stationed in El Paso and i'm wondering if the messages might be getting bounced off Juarez Mexico and thus getting the pay per use rate instead of his package. I've added ICR to his account, hoping that will alleviate the problem. Any other ideas?

(Wow, a productive use fo...

New Cingular Commercial and phone discounts

I recently saw one if them new Cingular commercials, the one where the mascot's T-Shirt gun goes crazy, anyway they are advirtising I believe it was $150 dollars of video phones and it shows the nokia 6230 and some motorola phone. Am I missing something or is there fixing to be a price discount on the nokia, or perhaps a higher rebate? Online the price has not changed. Should I wait a little longer for the nokia 6230 to drop in price? Or do you think if I take my beat up old 6340 to the store they will feel sorry for me that it is held together by tape and give me any phone I want for free? By the way I am in the Nashville area, anyone else here?

64 Bit SIM Capable Phone with 64 Bit SIM Card on ATTWS Service?

Is it possible to have a Cingular 64 Bit SIM Capable Phone with 64 Bit SIM Card on ATTWS Service? Can the Cingular SIM card be activated on an ATTWS plan where I have a phone that I purchased outright that is capable of 64 bit SIM cards? Will I then also get the Smartchip benefits?

B-itching about Cingular CSR

😁 Always here about the bad, just thought I would give a thanks!

A year ago I was given a plan by retention with some added perks. The perks fell off my account this billing cycle. Called 611, Rep told me things were on my account that shouldn't be there. I explained they were given as part of an offer to remain a 10yr plus customer. She researched some more apologized for removal an added a tracking code to keep straight in the future.

No one screamed or yelled and the problem was solved.

What am I missing without the 800 gsm band?

Hi all,
Just curious as to what I'm missing by not having the 800 band available on my phone. I have been using the SE t68 with Cingular for over 2 years now. Apparently this phone does not use GSM 800. I haven't had any real problems. I do encounter some dead spots now and then. Will my reception greatly improve if I move to a phone with GSM 800.

The main reason I'm asking is because I'm looking for a new phone.

Thanks in advance for any info on the subject.

Update on Moto A630?

Help, I need a new phone SOON as my VZW moto v60 is quickly dying. Anyone know is the Dec 22nd date is still a go? And any feedback on Cingular would be great. I'm a long time VZW subscriber that can't stand VZW's pathetic choice of phones anymore.
