S55/56 or S710a

I currently have a MOTO V220 with Cingular. I am looking to upgrading my phone though. I am having a really rough time deciding between the Siemens S56 or Sony Ericsson S710a! Anybody want to add there thoughts about the two phones. I know the S55 is due out ANYTIME with Cingular but anybody know about the S710a? I've been reading reviews about the two phones in Europe and the S55 looks to be a better phone.

Do you guys think I should wait for another phone(s) Cingular will be coming out with in the short term future?

Thanks in advance.

Nokia 6010 vs 3120 Comparison

I got both of these Nokias and after two days of use these are mine comments:

1. Reception quality - it seems that they are both equal or the 6010 sometimes gets 1 bar better. Compared to my old Moto T720, Nokias HOLD connection better.

2. Ear piece volume - depending on connection the 6010 is slightly louder or WAY louder than 3120.

3. Sound quality - 6010 reproduces sound with different timbre (less bass). I prefer 6010 sound tone to 3120 which generates audible noise/hiss at max earpiece volume.

4. Phone size/shape - 3120 is too small for me. Because of its size, it is easy to accidentally cover the internal antenna area which could lead to worse reception/higher transmission levels (radiation). I also find the keys a litt...

Buying through Amazon - Number Portability

I want to buy a v.551 and a T637 (on a family plan), and have found that Amazon has the best prices on these phones by far (the v.551 is free after the rebate, and the T637 would be negative $150).

The problem is that Amazon doesn't support number portability with Cingular yet. Anyone know a way around this problem? One possibility might be to set up new accounts (with new #s) through Amazon, and then ask Cingular to replace the #s with the imported numbers after the account is set up. But I don't know if this is possible.

Any suggestions?

Text messaging

Before anybody starts flaming about how "Cingular service sucks and I'm returning my phone!", I thought I'd say we're aware of the text messaging outage and we're working on it. You probably haven't been able to send or receive messages since 10:23 EST (7:23 PST), and maybe you haven't noticed yet. They're not sending, if yours works just consider yourself lucky. There's no ETA about when it will be up, but yes... we're working on it.

RCR WIreless News

From what I understand there is article in a recent RCR newletter about Verizon. Apparently the Better Business Bureau is after them because of their network and service area claims. If anyone can pull this up and post it to read it would be great. Thanks.

Upgrading Oddity

I'm a Cing-T616 customer for past year-plus, now qualify for an upgrade. I bought the v551 last week (one yr @ $200, incl fees) but I'm dissatisfied with the menus (the "select" button seems to swap sides in diff menus, frustrating).

1. Can I "upgrade" to the Audiovox5600 at a an AT-T store?
2. (I'd even be willing to just buy it outright @ about $200, but they want $319)
3. Would it need unlocking to work w/ new Cingular SIM?

Question regarding Roaming fees

Hi,

I'm from Binghamton, NY and there's an ATT tower in my campus at SUNY Binghamton.

If I take a cingular account from Ithaca ( the telephone code is the same ( 607) even though its a different zip ), I'm assuming that the Cingular service will pull from the ATT tower on campus.

Will I be charged for roaming fees or something like that ( ANY HIDDEN FEES) , because I will be making pretty much all my calls from there. The problem I'm having is that if I enter my zipcode at the cingular site or any wireless retailer, they dont show me any deals. I have to enter the Ithaca zipcode.

Hoping someone can throw light on the matter.
Thanks in advance

Help with V3 Email

I switched from Verizon and bought a new V3. So
far I have been pretty happy except for one thing.
I can't get the email msgs (in the message menu)
to work. I researched the subject on the net and
on howard forums. I found a number of articles
and work thru all the recommended config and
none of them worked. I tired connecting to
mycinguler (really infospace), yahoo, and gmail.
The all failed with the same error. "Connection
unsucessful try again later" I did notice that unlike
the web or mms I didn;t see the little data exchange
icon (top left) when trying to connect to email.
I set up my own imap server, craked up the logging
and sure enough I didn't see any incoming connection
attempt.

So I call cusotmer service who t...

Question about "migrating" and the V3

Ok, how do you migrate from ATT to Cingular? I want to migrate from ATT to Cingular and get the V3. I currently own the v600 for ATT which I got in August. I want to migrate to Cingular and get 75$ for trading in the v600. I just dont know what to do, do I just go in to myCingular store and say I want to migrate from ATT to Cingular? Also would I get all of the Cingular plans and exclusives like rollover? If any one has any info please let me know. Thanks

Are Cingular Plans Grandfathered ?

I have a superhome promo plan 2550 min @ 99.99 with all the whistles and bells included n/c.

I called Cingular a while back about a roam question and the CSR told me my plan or parts were to expire? Any truth to this.

DC Car Pwr Adapter

Hi all.
I have a car DC adapter for an i95cl that has been taken out of service. Replacing it, is a V551 (with Cingular). Can I use the DC adapter from the i95cl for the V551? I know the connector is the same, but is the voltage and current output compatible/safe for use with the V551? Generic or technical answers are welcome. Thank you.

Motorola Razr V3

I thought everyone would like to know about this.....In case you are thinking about getting insurance for this device through Cingular you can give up that hope. Insurance IS NOT I repeat IS NOT available on this lovely piece of equipment. Buy at your own risk. If you tend to misplace or damage phones then I would suggest another device.

Basic Deposit for No Credit

Whats the average deposit for someone with no credit? Not bad credit - just no credit, i.e. a teenager wanting to get a phone for the very first time in her own name?

The AT&T assets in the Oklahoma City market are being sold to Alltel..yuk. Anyway, since I am being sold to a regional carrier is there any way that I can transfer my 3 lines to Cingular and not have an ETF on them?

Thanks

Blue Service on an Orange phone?

I live in Lousiana. Before leaving for vacation to NJ, i stopped by a Company owned store to make sure that v400 would work in New Jersey where i was going. They told me that Cingular didn't have service there, but ATT did. I have a 32k sim card, not a 64k, but they told me it didn't matter, my phone would work because the v400 works on 1800mhz, and thats what ATT uses in NJ.

Well, i dont have service. How do i get my v400 to start picking up ATT towers?

Thanks!

This was too great not to post...

I got a customer on the line... first thing he says is "I want a manager on the line." So I offer to help him... weasel my way into bringing up his account so I can read the notes... WELL... He claims he opened up his flip phone and it just fell apart... With no sign or warning "no damage" to the phone... "no tampering"... He just opened it and it fell aparta (Samsung x427M)... So needless to say it's out of warranty... no insurance... and is barely past his six months on a two year contract... the previous reps told him he would have to pay full price... he doesn't want to...

So I did the nicest thing I could think of... I offered him 1yr contract price in return for a 2 yr contract... He says he's not going to pay for a malfunction... ...
