Cingular's family plans

Im wondering why Cingular's family plans initially come with only one line? Yes, I understand that you can (and most likely will) purchase a second or third line for $20 or $10 (depending on the plan). But why cant they be a little more open (like T-mobile) and tell the price for 2 phones. It's not a big deal, just wondering.

Premium Services Rip-off

Ok, I have a friend is a Cingular customer. He was downloading some ringtones from his Cingular phone one night and bought two ringtones for $1.99 apiece and then downloaded another eight that he was told were free. When he got his bill two weeks later, he saw that he was charged $1.99 for each ringtone. I contacted care for him to resolve issue and after waiting on hold for a total of 30 minutes, they told me that they couldn't track the usage or tell where the charges came from. They also told me that there was no way possible to issue a credit for a charge that went through THEIR system and appeared on THEIR bill. The rep told me that the charges would have to be disputed with the site that the ringtones came from in the first place.

How Difficult to Use Unlocked Phones

I purchased an unlocked phone while traveling abroad. When I returned to the states, I wanted domestic service. My phone roamed on AT&T & T-Mobile.

The AT&T Store Customer Rep told me that they don't provide prepaid service with unlocked phones but if I purchase monthly service and a phone from them, I might be able to use the SIM in my existing unlocked phone.

Hmmmm. (I didn't really need another phone.)

I went to T-Mobile and they were cool about it. Although they don't support a phone they don't sell (that's cool), they will sell me a prepaid SIM or monthly service -- no phone. I now have 700 pre-paid minutes which will not expire for 1 year @ about .17/minute. 😁

I'm thinking about buying an unlocked Smartphone soon. A...

Tired of VZW Phone Selection

I have been a loyal VZW (GTE) customer since 1997. I saw the new Motorola MPX displayed on this web site with a PDA and Qwerty keyboard in a reasonable form factor. I would love to get this phone, but once again it is only offered in GSM. I am seriously considering changing carriers. I have been happy with my VZW service and reception but want more from my phone. I use my phone for text messaging and calendar functions at work, I also use Get It Now daily.

Anyone have any reception experience with Cingular in the Huntsville, AL area?

Reception

Have a few questions on reception.

I have an LG L1400 and whenever I go into a store I get either little to none or no reception while in the store. I used to get full bar service on my former provider (not mentioning that company). I'm not knocking Cingular because I love the service that I have received from them since being a customer for 2 weeks now.

1. Could it just be that LG's have lousy reception or maybe my particular unit is a bad one?

2. And for anyone (lucky devils 😈 ) that have the Moto V551's, do you get reception while in stores?

3. And is the Moto V551 reception just overall better than the LG?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to getting my V551 in a couple of weeks.

Holiday shopping kickoff and promotions

With the official kickoff of holiday shopping, does anyone know if Cingular will be promoting more of it's video messaging contest that runs until the end of January? Well they would need more video capable phones to push that. Calling plans seem to be staying the same for the holidays as well as common Cingular promos like Rollover and Mobile to Mobile with 46 million customers, we know we'll hear that for at least months to come.

The only change that's probable for the holidays is the phones that are coming out in the next couple of weeks, we'll probably see the increasing video messaging promotion as well as EDGE capable phones as they are offered and the ones they already have.

620 Vs (secret) V635

Below you will find a link detailing information about the very secretive V635. It appears that this information has accidentally leaked out. This honey of a phone looks, if you can believe it, even better that the v620. But, it is also going to run a lot more. You are looking at a whopping $450.00!! With that you get the following upgrades from the v620:

- EDGE
- miniSD cards connector, hot changing, mp3 player
- 1.3 megapixel camera
- outer color screen (4096, ñSTN, 80á96)

the coolest phone i can't have... SE-k700i

I'm thinking about getting the k700i and unlocking it for Cingular service. I realize the k700i only supports 1900 fre band (900 and 1800 too) while cingular uses both 1900 and 800.

How do you think the phone would work with Cingular? Anyone out there using this phone with Cingular?

To me this is pretty much the perfect phone. Why didn't SE make a quad band phone????

thanks,
j

Cingular Rep Help: Porting # from VZW

After my last post I ended up going to a different store and buying the v551 one there. I have used it for about 2 days now no problems, works just fine.

So I decided to go ahead and port my #.
Here is the problem, the Cingular acct is in my name. My VZW is a family share plan in my dad's name (but originally started off as a single person plan with my #, he added later). I wasnt sure if I tried to have cingular port my # if they would try to close both #s and he would lose his acct/number. So I asked him to call in and he said that vzw told him that I cant port my # because its in his name. Is that true, if I put in a port # request they will deny it because of different first names? Any good solution for this, as I would like to keep ...

Questions upon Upgrading

My SE-616 was looking tattered though. Since I qualified for upgrade, last week I bought the Moto-551, but it's a love/hate relationship. The camera is nice, the screen is nice, the digits are easy to read, and the video is cute. But, I think hate is predominant, mainly because the menus seem to run deeper and the select (or yes) buttons seem to swap sides willy-nilly - not easy to memorize for clicking without looking - I find it frustrating.

Hoping for help on these questions from some of you knowledgeable reps:

1. Within 30 days, I can return this phone for full refund? Can I just use my old phone and reserve the upgrade credit for a few months? Will I keep the new SIM or will they switch me back to my old one?

2. I'm thinking o...

Unlock Codes

Ont he ATTWS forum, it talks about a level 2 Tech having the ability to give out unlock codes via CSP. Does Cingular also have the same luxury?

From the ATTWS Forum:
"The unlock code process should only be handled by Tier 2 technical support representatives. That what is says in CSP. Not care it was my mistake about the department."

Contract Cancellation

I currently have Verizon Wireless and have 1 year left on my contract, but I'd like to switch to Cingular due to their phone selection and better plans.

Does anyone know a way to get out of paying a cancellation fee if I port my number from VZ to Cingular?
