Lesson to be learned. Online and in store prices beware!

I thought I had done my homework. I knew the phone I wanted, the plan, the features and I wanted to migrate from AWS. After having failed to migrate online because of numerous errors I decided to go to a Cingular corporate store.

I figured I could get the Nokia 6620 right away and not have to wait. The online price was $249.99 with a two year. I figured add another $50.00 for a one year plan so that it would be $300 minus the $50.00 rebate would make it around $250. Well folks I was seriously mistaken.

I bought the phone during my lunch hour anxious to get back to work but confident I could get a good deal. After all, months earlier I had purchased the Motorola v600 for a little less than $180 with a copy of a AWS webpage that listed...

The Slaughter Has Begun

Article from today's NY Times:

Cingular to Cut 7,000 Jobs to Trim Costs After Buyout

Cingular Wireless, the nation's largest cellular phone company, plans to cut about 10 percent of its work force, or 7,000 jobs, as a result of its purchase of AT&T Wireless, the company said yesterday.

The company, based in Atlanta, said that most of the cuts would come in administrative and managerial positions that were duplicated as a result of the $41 billion buyout, which was completed in late October. Retail outlets or customer care centers that deal with the company's 47 million subscribers would be less affected, the company said.

The layoffs were widely expected, because Cingular has said it wants to cut billions of dollars in costs. Un...

Better deals before or after holidays?

I'm switching from Verizon after my contract is up on 12/22. I'm wondering if it would be better to switch right away or wait until after the holidays. I'm assuming that any significant new phones will be released in time for Christmas, but that rebates and possibly plans will change on 12/26 or sometime shortly thereafter. Cingular employees, how does this seem to be shaping up? Right now I'm interested in the 6230 with a 600 minute plan and probably a small data/text message package, but I'm the early-adopter type so new equipment can tempt me pretty quickly. Let me know what you think will save me the most cash, especially on the handset. Thanks!

Questions On Caller Photo ID's On The V400 And V551 When The Flip Is Open

My friend has a V400 when he gets a call the persons picture is full screen identifying who it is.

On my V551 the picture is small. How do I change the setting to make it full screen?

Also do I need moto tools to record a sound and assign them to a persons phone #? I have recorded a few voice tags and tried to tie them into a few friends phone #'s as ring tones and it does not work.

I read the users manual but there was nothing on that subject.

Any help will be greatly appreciated 😳

"Hey, are you guys hiring?"

You know, it dawned on me today.

Listening to all these outsiders complain & whine about phone pricing, plans, free phones, getting ripped off, "phones should work perfect everywhere", "the company's out to get me", etc. etc. etc, reminded me of a certain type:

They are the ones that walk into your store all straggly with no resume or presentation skills and say, "Hey, are you guys hiring?"

Aren't they such Comic Relief?

Sound Quality

Any discernable difference between say 800mhz and 1900 mhz within a technology?

Any Discernable difference between say GSM and CDMA? (freq band being equal)

Getting my Motorola v551 tonight...good choice?

I'm finally set on migrating over to Cingular from my former AT&T service, and choose the Motorola v551 as my new phone. I've heard many great things about this model, i'm sure that it's a good choice but just wondered what everyone else thought.

Z500a?

Has cingular actually pulled the plug on the Sony Ericsson Z500a and decided not to release it? Some people are claiming this. If so, WHY!?

How is Cingular on all levels?

Hello guys,

It's around the holidays and my wireless contract expires in a few days, so I am VERY tempted to switch to Cingular/ATT if they offer any special plans ; ) Should I?

Where should I begin? Well, I had Cingular about 3 years ago and I must say Cingular was horrendous. It was absolutely the worst wireless carrier back then. I think back then I had the 49.99 with 500 minutes plan (yep, plans were expensive back then) and unlimited night and weekend....BUT as soon as 9pm hit, all circuits became busy and there was no way I could call anyone once the night and weekend time started! And when I finally got through, I would constantly get drop calls. I counted one time-during an one hour conversation I got 12 drop calls! Now you mig...

Manufacture Phones

Curious, if one buys a phone directly from a manufacture that is hosted by Cingular, could that phone be automatically be used on the Cingular network by the customer simply installing their SIM card from their old phone, or is there something else that has to happen before they can do this? Just curious... 😕

Does migration require contract?

If you migrate your AT&T account to Cingular and already have a compatible phone, do they require a contract? It doesn't really make sense that they would unless you need a new phone that they are subsidizing.

64K Sim Question

If I'm migrating from Vzw and go to a cingular store, Can I just request a 64k sim? Even if I have to pay extra for it?

Can someone describe the distinct benefits again? Is it worth it to have?

"Best selection of handsets in the industry?"

The above statement could be found at newcingular.com when the merger process was in the beginning stages, but will we ever see truth to it? My thinking is eventually.

Other than what AT&T and Cingular offered in the way of phones before the merger, we have found just two new models after the first full week, the Motorola v551 and Razr V3.

Here we are on the week of Thanksgiving and the kickoff of holiday shopping on Friday, will we see some movement in the way of new phones becoming available?

Is SE T637 the same on both AT&T and Cingular?

In other words, can someone with a SE T637 from AT&T migrate over to Cingular and not have to get a new phone? And do they give you a 64K chip when you migrate so that the phone can switch between towers?

Veteran ATT reps

I left my indirect Cingular agent store 3 weeks ago, and I start tomorrow at an ATT Wireless corporate store tommorrow, in Mesquite, Texas. Since I am already proficent at the CIngular side of the buisness, any tricks of the trade that you would like to share with me?

Also, how long do you have to be with ATT, before you recieve an official use line? Is it unlimited everything like CIngular? I still have my Cingular agent line and a personal line. Do family members get unlimited everyrhing too? (I have a finacee).

Thanks for the heads up.....I am really excited about getting back in the game.
