A day of confusion and very little selection

Here we are on Day One, and after going to three AT&T (new Cingular) stores and none of them could migrate customers over to Cingular due to system problems according to each store. Other customers seemed to be confused and the people behind the counter didn't have many answers to help anyone.

One big suprise today was the lack of phones, the Cingular branded models only yielded like 4 or 5 models...with 3 of them being carried over from AT&T.

Also...no regional plans are offered til Nov. 20th, only Cingular Nation plans until then.

We need new phones and an actual selection of models to choose from, anyone know if some or any more phones are coming soon?

Updated Coverage Map?

Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone knows where to find an updated coverage map of Cingular GSM service that includes the coverage that ATT added. More specifically, a New England Regional map would be the most useful to me.

The map on cingular.com states specifically "Updated September 2004" which implies that it doesn't include the merger.

Thanks!

Phone number portability

I have a current Vzw acct, and I want to go to Cingular. Is there a way I can port the # after having the Cingular phone for say a week or two? Since it has I think a 14 day return policy. So I plan to keep the vzw acct active incase I decide to go back to them. Or do I have to port the # at the time of setting up the Cingular acct?

Cingular Service in NYC and Long Island??

I wanted to know if there is anyone in this forum that uses Cingular in NYC? Specifically in the Queens, Brooklyn, Manhattan areas? Also I am looking for people's opinion of service in parts of Long Island. Please point out the about problem areas in NYC and Long Island and the kind of problems you are having. After using 4 providers in the past 6-7 years, the only two I haven't used are Verizon and (ATT&T Cingular). I am on the verge of making the switch and I only know 2 people who have Cingular.

Release on the Nokia 7610?

Anyone got a possible release date on the 7610? I've been off work for a while, and well...I just don't seem to have access to the release dates for anything anyway. ^_^

Thanks in advance.

Help me! Thanks!

🤭
I was an ATTWS customer for many many years since analog and TDMA... I haven't had a contract since June of this year, just going month to month. My current plan is 200 anytime mins, plus 100 anytime mins for life and unlimitied nights and weekends for 29.99 (Multiband plan and phone). I want the new Moto V551 and a uncostly plan, what are my options, can I order a new phone from Cingular Blue and keep my tenure or can i just go to Cingular Orange... So much info out there, just wish I could get some straight answers, Thanks for your help to everyone... 😁

Pulling their hair out?

I just been cruising through some forums and found that people are getting a bit nerve wracked by all the different info that seems to be floating about in regards to the merger. Has anyone had any issues or confusing on Day 1?

So I Went Into A Cingular Cooperate Store Today...

Because they said they had the new phones and rate plans.

They did have all the new phones (The R3 is SWEET!! I might add the people at the store won new ones in some kinda of contest) the V551 is nice also BUT the rate plans are the same.

The store people said they had received all the new company literature over the weekend and besides the new phones everything for new customers would be the same as before.

Guess my *incentives* to leaving Nextel for Cingular are not going to be there.

Greetings...on my T637 and Cingular service

I recently returned from a drive from Branson Mo to Las VEgas on I44/I40 and I must say I had GREAT reception all the way..kudos Cingular!

I also had the experience of jumping into a pond with my T637 strapped on....Yikes.. As can be imagined it would not work at all the next morning there was water behind the screen and dripping from the phone. I was about to run to Cingular to buy another when I decided to blow dry the phone. I set the phone down in front of a blow dryer for nearly an hour, until all water was gone from the LCD....Still did not come on. So I hooked up the battery charger and what do you know the phone lit up and charged fully...Been using it without a glitch ever since.......

Amazing phone. I did buy another though ...

Video Phones and SE z500

According to a sign in several local newly-remodeled Cingular stores that promotes video messaging. The sign lists the Motorola v551, Sony Ericsson z500, and Nokia 6320 as phones that support the video recording/messaging feature. Also, the promotion points to the video messaging for this holiday season.

I've seen the Motorola v551 in the store already, the Nokia 6320 should be on it's way since it is already offered through Cingular.

The Sony Ericsson z500 isn't released yet. After asking about this nice looking flip, with many worthwhile features for such a small phone, it seems to be well worth the wait to look at first hand. Does anyone know when we might see the z500 from SE?

Unlocking?

If I just bid on a replacement phone on Ebay and the seller is offering to completely unbrand it (remove all ATT specifics) should I do it? What is the hassle or process I'll have to go through to make sure I get text messages, voicemail, and possible wap browsing and such?

Data Options for Laptop -> Moto v551 -> internet

I'm not sure if I understand how Cingulars data offerings are organized. I'm planning on getting a V551, and would occasionally like to use my laptop to connect to the v551 (via bluetooth) to connect to the internet.

Can anyone point me towards to the options/costs?

I've tried searching cingulars website and the forum, but am still not 100% clear.
