Increased coverage with more bands?

Hi,

I have a Motorola V70 on Cingular, which is a single band phone (GSM-1900). If I were to upgrade to a dual or tri-band GSM phone, would my coverage/reception increase?

I guess my question hinges on whether Cingular's towers are all tri band or some omit GSM-1900.

Any information anyone could give me would be most appreciated, thank you.

Cingular Extend or is it?

My phone I use in Europe all of a sudden works where I live. I can only assume because the 1900 band that att uses in the area have converted to cingular. My phone says cingular extend but is it really since they now own these towers? Will the message on screen change?
Anyone ideas?

Cingular & T-Mobile in Northern California...

Hey All!
Need your help here. I will be switching to GSM by May of next year when my Verizon contract expires to be more "global". Want to get a Cingular or T-Mobile phone in December or January and use the winner side by side with Verizon to see which works better. If there are any user's or rep's out there who can share personal experiences of which they think is better in Northern & Southern California, I would appreciate any assistance.
1. Are the network's separated now...is Cingular on AT&T's GSM network and is T-Mobile on Cingular's. Also does Cingular run on 850 along with 1900 in California.
2. Need feedback on dropped calls, call quality, etc. I have looked at survey's, but looking for actual user's experiences.
3. For pho...

Does anyone know where I can check to see if EDGE is available in my area (Bowling Green, KY)? I have a V551 coming and I was just curious. 😉 Thanks!

Changes coming this week?

The website that Cingular has: newcingular.com says that an update on everything from new phones, plans, and products will be coming on Wednesday, November 10th. We will be seeing what kind of announcement they have at that time.

When I talked to Cingular, they said that the first day of migration for AT&T's customers would be either the 10th or 15th.

We'll see what's coming just a few days from now. Hopefully some or many changes for the better, first and foremost, in regards to more variety in phones.

Dazed and Confused

Went to the Cingular store here in Johnson City, TN yesterday. They only had about 8 maybe 9 phones (not that big of a selections if you're wanting a camera phone). So I decided to stop in at the Cingular store in Greeneville, TN on my way to work this morning. OMG, they had like a slew of cute, sleek, and working model phones. Hate those plastic non functional models.

Now the hard part hits me. Trying to figure out which phone would be the better phone (not based on just looks, but also call quality).

So headed back here to PhoneScoop to see if anyone could help me decipher the good, the bad, and the indifferent about the following phones:

1. LG L1200
2. LG L1400
3. Motorola V220
4. Motorola V400
5. Nokia 6230
6. Samsung p...

Date/Time Keeps Resetting!

Ever since Daylight Savings Time, my phone has more than once wanted my permission to check the date and time.

A couple of times is when I power up the phone. Last time was in the middle of a game (non-network).

Why is it doing this? Is this something again with the new towers?

Does this also tie in with my phone going back constantly now between Cingular & Cingular Extend?

SBC/Cingular Rebate

There is a $50 mail-in rebate offered on SBC's site when you sign up for Cingular plans $39.99 and above.

You can't click on the ad for a form or any further info.

When I ordered through SBC via telephone (Total Connections Pkg.), I inquired about that rebate and was told I qualified.

My last 2 telecons with SBC--they keep telling me it's Cingular's problem. But Cingular explained (which I believe is correct) that SBC has to initiate the credit or check to come from Cingular.

I have been told by both companies that it is an automatic rebate and a check will come in the mail. But the ad on SBC's site says "mail-in rebate".

Anyone know where I can obtain this rebate form?

Thanks in advance. 🙂

PS--SBC fine print says ...

another question, this one a/b the 64K sim

I know you guys have posted hundreds of comments about the 64K sim cards. It seems like with each new post, I'm getting more confused.

Okay, it seems like some people are saying the 64K sim cards are out. However, I called a Cingular store in Arlington, TX, and the woman I spoke to said they're not out yet.

Does anyone know when they might be available in the Dallas area?

Some people have been mentioning something about ENS, which my guess is a new technology. So with my older SE T616, the new sim cards probably would not work anyways, would they?

Thanks again in advance.

question about upgrade

I'm eligible for an upgrade in June I believe. I'm new to all the cell phone stuff, and I'm not sure how the upgrade works (will I be able to get a free phone?) if so, what is the limit I would be able to spend on that phone?

I still have the ol' SE T616 and am about ready to get a new phone. I've gotten kinda used to SE and like my phone, and I am thinking about getting the z500 when it comes out (I realize I'll have to pay full price for the phone).

At the same time, I'm kinda wanting to wait on the Nokia clam phones b/c that would be closer to when I can get my upgrade. Does anyone have any estimates on how much I would have to pay for the , let's say Nokia 6170, considering I'd be due for an upgrade about that time?

Thanks...

Running 2 Cingular from ALLTEL

🙂 Hello all. I'm new to this forum.

Currently I'm with ALLTEL (and have been for almost 5 years now). However, I'm getting ready to break my current contract with them and well aware of the termination fee which sucks. Have had it with them. This last time is the straw that broke the camel's back. Asked to have "Free2Roam" minutes "added" to my current plan. Was told that it was added but wasn't told by the ALLTEL rep that it would alter my plan and lower my regular day-time minutes (had I known this, I would have not gone through with this). So now because of this I'm over on my minutes for this month which sucks major MunkyButt. Have listened, read online reviews, talked to Cingular reps, and other Cingular customers and will be switch...

Timmy!!

What up Tim? Glad to see you are still well. Tim, by the way, is the person who taught me everything I know today about being successful with Cingular. Got to send love to my West Texas reps. I guess the acquisition doesn't affect you since, AT&T is non-existant in WT?

Big and welcomed changes coming

There are a lot of things that will be changing that seem to be welcomed my many former AT&T customers, for instance, having the largest mobile to mobile coverage area in the country and access to rollover your unused minutes. Of course, these things might be require a new phone from Cingular, which isn't a bad thing either because if you're switching over, you probably will be eligible for discounts of some sort.

The best part is that Cingular is advertising that it's 46 million or so customers will have the widest variety of handsets to choose from. That seems to mean that, you can look at Verizon's lineup and say that ours here at Cingular will be much better. We can look forward to big, better, and appreciated changes in our wirele...

New phones on "Day One" November 15th

There is word that the Motorola Razr V3 will be officially released on November 15th, among several other phones. Some rumored to be coming out also is the Motorola v551, two Sony Ericsson's, the s710a and z500.

But what about some of the phones that were supposted to be released to AT&T Wireless, like the NEC 535, Samsung SGH-P716, and the Nokia 3220?

Does anyone know what will be happening on Day One as a lot of new GSM phones are out there, it's just a question of what models we will see offered by Cingular. According to many former AT&T stores, the news will be coming out on the 10th, and officially the 15th. If anyone has some info on the phones, please post your comments.

cingular lg phone not working properly

On 10/26, Cingular merged with AT&T Wireless. I have a Cingular LG phone, and as of 10/31 (the day after we switched the clocks), I have been unable to place or receive calls 95% of the time. I live in an area where there is usually limited cell phone signal to begin with, but I don't believe that has anything to do with my problem because most of the time I have a full signal and I still can't use my phone. What happens is that as soon as I place a call the phone beeps at me (an error-like beep) and says "Call ended". Sometimes I can use it and it never drops calls, I just have a problem connecting. I will get voice mails out of nowhere and 3 or 4 at a time. I called Cingular twice. The first time (from a payphone) the guy said that somehow...

Free Trial Services

When I signed up with Cingular, I was automatically signed up for 2 free services on a trial basis--1 for 1 month, the other for 2 months.

I saw a posting on here somewhere where it was stated that Cingular would automatically remove those charges if you DON'T call in to say you want them.

When I called CS today, they said I HAD to call to cancel them, or they would be billed after the trial period.

Then she couldn't find the trial services at all and said they looked like they had been removed already (I had not called until today).

Advice? Who's right?
