Cingular sells phones unlocked?!

This is probably old news, but I just heard that Cingular sells their phones unlocked. Is this true? I live in the US, and am looking to use a Nokia 6230 with T-Mobile service.

Thanks.

SE s710a

Oh snap.. Just saw our marketing manager with the SE s710a. Straight using it with the moto HS810. Since I know he's not a big SE fan (prefers his v3), I'm going to bug him to hook it up... Damn.. and my b-day is coming up too.. 😉 This looks good cuz it means that we might release this phone by Dec....

Just out of curiosity.

When Cingular finally takes over AT&T will they be implementing some of the features of at&t's plans into their own? Such as free incoming text messages, free unlimited mobile-to-mobile on local/region plans (I assume they don't offer that since you can buy it for $9.99 which covers the nation with mobile-to-mobile), and also free nights and weekends starting at 7pm. Thank you very much if you can help me with any information.

Majority of FCC OKs Cingular-AT&T Wireless-Source

Wed Oct 13, 2004 03:14 PM ET

By Jeremy Pelofsky
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A majority of the U.S. Federal Communications Commission has voted to conditionally approve Cingular Wireless' proposed acquisition of AT&T Wireless Services Inc., a source familiar with the matter said on Wednesday.

Three of the five FCC commissioners have voted to back the deal with certain divestitures, likely in up to two dozen markets, said the source, who declined to be identified because the voting had not been completed.

The three Republicans have backed the deal, Chairman Michael Powell and Commissioners Kathleen Abernathy and Kevin Martin while the Democrat commissioners, Michael Copps and Jonathan ...

Does the wlamrt music trick work with Cingular

I assume everyone knows about cutting and pasting the web address from an online music store's sample clips and then using the Carrier's website to send the address as a link in the body of a text message. This then allows you to launch the browser and download a real music tone, phone must be MP3 or midi compatible, such as V.400 or V.600. Works with ATTWS all the time. Just tried it for a new Cingular subscriber with a V.400, he has Media Works on the account and the browser is working. When the phone starts to download, he gets an error message, something about internal server. Any ideas. Has anyone been successful with this method on a Cingular handset. Thank you.

"My Minutes" on Cingular website

Does anybody know how to check the mobile to mobile minutes on Cingular's website now? They just changed it, and you can only view "Anytime" minutes or "Night/Weekend" minutes. There's no way to figure out how many of those Anytime minutes are mobile to mobile.

No Response From Network

I have 4 Samsung X427 phones 1 works fine the other three receive the "No response from network" message when trying to access the network. I also can not download ringtones from Cingulars MediaNet. Cingular has swapped out all the phones - problem remains the Cingular techs don't seem to know what to do! And I've found that you can only call Cingular for help when you have an hour or two to kill. Help!!

Curious, if I have my own GSM phone, how will this affect the contract?

I've got a nice new sony-ericsson gsm phone and my contract with ATTW just expired. I'm considering switching over to cingular, but don't want to be tied to a contract, or at the very least only a year deal.

Does Cingular still require a 2 year even if I have my own phone?

Is it worth switching to Cingular from ATTW, or should I just upgrade from TDMA to GSM with ATT and my new phone and live through the transfer?

thanks.

EWW!!

I just had a customer come in with a V600 which wouldn't turn on, even though the charge was complete. I plugged it in to a car charger and sure enough, it said charge complete. "Wow," I thought, "a customer who accurately described their problem." I removed the metal back faceplate on the v600, and the entire back of the phone was filled with some sort of petrolium jelly. Of course, whatever type of foul smelling jelly that it was, it was conductive so the battery and phone were ruined. Luckily he had insurance and didn't fuss about them mailing him a new one tomorrow. No, I didn't ask how it happened or what it was. It smelled so foul I didn't want to know.
