Fcc's abernathy:no rush on cingular-at&t wireless

WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)--Federal Communications Commission member Kathleen Abernathy said Thursday that FCC consideration of the proposed merger between Cingular Wireless and AT&T Wireless Services Inc. (AWE) could take weeks rather than days.

The regulatory agency's consideration of the tie-up would take "more than a couple of days," Abernathy said at a briefing with reporters, estimating the time needed to make a decision as a matter of weeks, rather than months.

"I think it would be a mistake for any of us to take it lightly. It's a complex merger," she said.

Cingular announced plans to buy AT&T Wireless on Feb. 17 for about $41 billion in a deal that would create the nation'...

$9.99 FT line and $39.99 4 1000 minutes extended

Once again Cingular has extended the $9.99 FT line until Saturday October 30th(6th month in a row). The same goes for the 1000 anytime minutes for $39.99. This is the case for the state of Texas and I am sure the rest of the US.

Cingular in NYC

I have a few questions regarding Cingular. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

1. I am currently a T-mobile subscriber and planning to change over to Cingular. Anyone know how the service is in manhattan and surrounding boros?

2. I recall about 2-3 yrs ago when i flew out to vegas and my t-mobile phone seemlessly switched over to Cingular's network. Will I experience the same switchover to ATT Wireless when I am in an area where ATT Wireless is present but Cingular is not?

3. I read somewhere that some European phones will not work on Cingular's network but will work on T-mobile. Something related to the frequency...what frequency is used in the NYC?

Thanks

EDGE

This may be a stupid question, but here goes anyway. I'm deciding between an EDGE phone (it is backward compatible) and a GPRS phone. Does Cingular even support EDGE or would that ability just go unused?

Thanks

6230 Problem

Has anyone heard about an internal problem with the 6230? A telesales agent said it couldn't be ordered over the phone b/c of that. Yet for some reason I can still get it online, though she warned that it may be a flawed phone.

is it merger or buyout

can anyone that knows tell me,is the cingular purchasing of at&t a merger or a buyout.by that i mean a merger being a blending of the two companies phones, rate plans,equipment,i.g. at&t offers thier customer the ability to get a free phone or discount on a newer phone twice in a 12mo period as long as they resign a 2yr contract when they get the phone, just like a new customer.cingular makes thier existing customers wait until the end of a 1yr or almost the end last 4mo of a 2yr contract inorder to recive a free or discounted phone.also and example of a typical at&t rate plan is $39.99/mo with 600 anytime minuets unlimited mobil to mobil and unlimited nights and weekend.at&t customer service is open 24/7 cingulars is not, will cingular make a...

Audiovox 5600 smartphone

Does anyone know if Cingular is going to carry the Audiovox 5600 smartphone? It's supposted to be released on AT&T in a week or two, just wondering since Cingular, like AT&T doesn't have a variety of Audiovox devices, as of yet.

Should I buy a Motorola V600?

I have this piece of crap "Samsung P-107" phone, and I honestly dislike it...I've always wanted the Motorola V600; but due to network problems with the phone (and it being recalled, etc.) should I still buy it? (I've even considered waiting until the next Motorola phone officially comes out for Cingular Wireless...but, they haven't released any yet. I've also heard about the new and very good Motorola MPX220 coming out this October...but I am not that interested in it.) I've checked into the new LG L1400 and Samsung E317...But I was dissastified with them both becuase you have to put your people in "Ringer Groups"...which I definitely don't like. PLEASE help me on what should my next phone be!

Replacement v600

I finally got my brand new V600 in the mail today. Yes mine was part of the poor reception recall. Let me say that they have done a wonderful job fixing the problem. The speaker is very loud and very clear, compared to my old phone. I never had the RF problems that some people reported. I am glad to get rid of my loaner v400!

For those of you still waiting your text message will be coming soon.

New V600 issue

All of a sudden on 10/1 my wife started getting service in areas she hadn't before, including our house. Now if she receives an incoming call on the cell when at home the phone freezes after aboug 1 min.

Is this part of the original V600 issue?

We'd waited to send the phone back hoping to wait until after the phones' permananent replacement was available so we would only have to do one swap...

Why does everyone insult rollover minutes and call it bs?

I've noticed alot of people in this forum calling rollover a rip off... I am not quite understanding their reasoning... I'm wondering if they just don't know how rollover works or what... This post is more to understand what people don't about rollover... Because i'm sure if they knew how it worked... They'd know that it's an awesome service.

MTi tool map

I don't trust this thing anymore, it's stopped being accurate for me, I get customers that claim they have really bad reception, I use the tool, (and I prove with the street where they live, and everything) and the map shows High as signal strength; and other times I use the tool and shows No Service, I mean the map is WHITE and they say they use their phone just fine!!! WTF? Is there another more reliable way to check signal strength than the MTi tool?

Need a new phone....please give advice

I've been with Cingular for many years and have no intentions of dropping them. However, I would like to get a new phone now that my contract is up. I was hoping that some of you with more knowledge than me could point me in the right direction. I want my new phone to be a flip (if all possible). I just want the keys protected at all times. Also, I'm looking for the following features.
- bluetooth a must, camera phone, and video would be nice. good battery life a definite plus. I would also like to get one that has external photo id, so that I can just look at the phone see who is calling and use my bluetooth without opening the phone. Text messaging is not that important to me.
Any suggestions for models that may be available in the near...

Dropped Calls

I need to ask some advice real quick. When I sell anyone a phone on any of the carriers that we offer at my company, I tell people that they really shouldn't have more than 2-3 dropped calls a month and that if they have more than that they should contact customer service because there may be a problem with thier phone or may be some kind of network issue.

I also tell them that is they live in outlying areas that they will drop more calls, thats just the nature of the beast. Also I tell them that while they are traveling between cities that they are more likely to drop a call vs being in an urban area with multiple towers.

My question is: Is 2-3 dropped calls a month a fair estimate? Should I tell them that they may experience more...
