Cingular call plans - need help...

Hello all,

Wanted to ask this forum for some advice. Currently my 2-yr. contract with Verizon is expired (last May). I have been eyeing the new Motorola RAZR V3 with great envy, especially since the initial reviews are all glowing regarding the phone. I understand that Cingular will soon be selling this phone. Great! My contract is up and I can easily switch!

However, here is my dilemma... My current plan with Verizon is:

800 Anytime minutes

1000 Mobile-to-mobile minutes (or more, don't recall exactly)

3000 Night & weekend minutes starting at 8 p.m.! (or more, don't recall exactly)

Free long distance anywhere in the U.S.

All for $45 per month (not including taxes, etc.)

When I checked Cingular their plans...

Circular Discussions

Cust: Hi. My mom just talked to customer service they changed the rate plan and told me I could come here and get a new phone. We also changed the account from her name to mine. They said everything's in the system and all I have to do is come see you and give you the last four of her social and you could take care of everything.

Me: Ummm, okay... What's the mobile phone number?

Him: XXX-XXX-XXXX

Me: That's still under her name. In order to upgrade the phone you'll need her here to sign the contract.

So it descends into a circular discussion from the pits of Hades because customer service told him he could do it and why did they tell him if I couldn't and me explaining the fact that he can't sign a contract on som...

Old phones & batteries

I have 3 old Nokia 5185's that I want to keep (personal reasons).

1) Do I just store them with the batteries attached, or do I need to remove them?

2) Do I need to charge them up from time-to-time?

They were with another carrier and even though they have been disconnected, the carrier's name shows up when you turn them on, all of my info is intact, etc.

The results, of the "Semi-Annual" poll.......

I have been checking this forum (Cingular) and Verizon, ATTW, quietly on the side.
And it took a few weeks, but the quality of the forums improved 75%.
Instead of trashing one another, "you" are finally helping the public with their questions.
Keep up the great job!
As you can see, I give credit where it's due. And Rich B. whatever you are doing, keep doing it!
The council of 12, seemed to have disbanded, way to go.

Some Old School News: TDMA Nation is back for a limited time

A friend in the know at Cingular has informed me that the company has brought back availability of the non-rollover TDMA Nation plans that were discontinued about two years ago.

As I understand it, they are "probably" not available for new sign-ups, just if you already have the plan and want to upgrade. As I was told, you do not have 7 PM off-peak options, MTM minutes, family plan options, or roll-over minutes. What you DO get is a coverage map that is almost the equal of the discontinued GAIT plans....virtually no roaming. Prices are along the lines of 350 anytime/3500 off-peak for $40; 500 anytime/3500 off-peak $50, etc.

From what I was told, they aren't being advertised on the web page or at any stores. You'll have to call...

How to send faxes with LG L1400 ?

I need to send faxes with my LG L1400.

As far as I know I can use the infrared port on the phone and I have to buy an USB infrared adapter for the computer.

Are there any compatibility issues with that? I mean is there a specific type of USB adapter that I should use ? (i see there is - IrDA 1.1 , IrDA 1.3 etc)

Also do I need a software for that ? If yes where can I download it from?

What else can be done with the IrDA port? Can I download pictures or upload tones, wallpapers?

TIA

Polish for screen scratches?

My son has some scratches on his new phone's screen. In the past with other phones, I had pretty good results with car polish.

Does anyone know of a product I can get locally that will remove the scratches from the screen?

Bad Customers

I'm waiting for more dumb customer stories... I need them to get me through the day. The only thing close to one that I've had today was somebody who had two bills from two different months that claimed they were being double billed. Circling the dates on the bills with a pen seemed to solve that problem... but it's not good enough! I need more raving customer stories.

Cingular service is horrible!!! Buyer beware!!!!!!!!!!!

👿 😕

I type this note out of concern for my fellow consumer. I recently switched to Cingular from T-mobile because of the pending merger between Cingular and AT&T, broader coverage and likelihood that they will survive the shake out that's coming in the cell phone industry.

My experience thus far with Cingular has been frightening. They have overcharged me, charged me for multiple lines of service when I signed up for one, spelled my name incorrectly on my billing statement, refused to cancel a line of service within the 15 day "trial" period because I purchased from Best Buy... even after I had returned the phone to Best Buy!!!!!

I honestly don't know what I will do with Cingular because their coverage is so good but their...

SAY IT ISN'T SO!!!

😳 FACT OR FICTION? THAT ON A NATIONAL NO ROAMING NETWORK PLAN ON CINGULAR THAT IF YOU ARE NOT IN A COVERAGE AREA, INSTEAD OF ROAMING YOU DO NOT HAVE SERVICE AT ALL?

AND IT IS BEYOND ME, BUT WHY WOULD YOU STATE WHERE YOUR FUTURE COBVERAGE IS GOING TO BE?... TO MAKE YOUR COVERAGE MAP SEEM MORE SUPERIOR THAN SOME COMPETITORS?

TAKE A LOOK SEE!!

Changing Cingular Call Plans and Handsets

I could use some help. We have 3 GAIT phones and it looks like the GSM coverage has grown enough in the last year that we can now switch to a GSM plan. The plan switch should be simple and inexpensive, but my problem is with the handsets. We cannot have camera phones with our employer, so I have been trying to research the other options. We want flip phones (of course). I understand that the Motorola V180 will be available in a few days, but the switch is going to be quite costly for us. Cingular tells me that they can make an "exception upgrade" but the V180 handset will be about $110 X 3. There is a $30 rebate per handset, but that's not much on the overall bill. I've looked at the Samsung X427M ($70 each)and the LGC1300 ($60 each...

Java issues - Feedback Appreciated

Is it just me or does it seem the whole java based platform is buggy?

Well, anyways, has anyone come across the trouble of a phone not being able to d/l anything java? Wife has an LG C1300 and the phone has been working great up until a couple of days ago... It can d/l everything except Java apps or more importantly games... I have tried everything I could think of from troubleshooting the phone itself to setting up a quick WAP server, I also tried sending a Push Message to the phone... None of which seem to work... I'm starting to rule it off as a problem w/ phone but I wanted to check if anyone has ever come across this...

BTW: What the phone does when trying to d/l java is in the middle of d/l the screen it flashes black for a min, ...

QUESTION...............

I HAVE RECENTLY APPLIED AND INTERVIEWED FOR A RETAIL SALES CONSULTANT W/ CINGULAR. THERE WAS A LOT OF INFOMATION GIVEN TO ME IN THE INTERVIEW, AND I ASKED SEVERAL QUESTIONS. HOWEVER, THERE ARE A FEW QUESTIONS THAT I COULD NOT THINK OF WHEN I WAS INTERVIEWING. I WAS HOPING SOME OF YOU WONDERFUL PEOPLE COULD GIVE ME SOME ANSWERS! HERE GOES............... 1) I WAS INFORMED THAT CINGULAR EMPLOYEES ARE UNION, BUT I DID NOT ASK WHAT THE UNION DUES ARE AND HOW OFTEN ARE THEY PAID. 2) IT WAS ALSO EXPLAINED THE JOB IS PRETTY MUCH BASED ON COMMISSION. IN REGARDS TO THIS, HOW OFTEN DO YOU GET PAID, AND HOW HARD IS IT TO MEET YOUR MONTHLY GOALS. ANY FEED BACK WOULD BE MUCH APPRICIATED! 🙂

Lets Try Something

I am in the market for a cell phone... but i noticed something about conversations i have had with any kiosk or store i've gone to..

When i am talking to a Representative about the downfalls of there service, while at there store or kiosk, I automatically get a rebuttal of how another service has larger downfalls.. my rebuttal is that i was talking about there service and standing there talking with them.. Not @ the competitors..

to me a situation like this is bad sportmanship.. can't we converse on a level that does not badger the competitors.. can people take a blow without pointing the finger.. or is this what it will always come down to...

try a new strategy is all i'm asking... when asked about your service, answer with your...

6620 or the T637

I currently have service with Cingular with the V400. I have had a lot of problems with it and have exchanged it out twice so I am looking for something better. I also want to get out of a flip phone if I could. I have been looking at these two phones for the bluetooth. Camera and video are not a necessity but they are a plus. Any feedback with problems or personal experience with the models would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks 😁
