I recently being a customer service rep for cingular went thru merger training. I think the first six months of the merger are going to be interesting to say the least. What do all of u think is going to be the biggest challenge on day one for the new cingular.

My DATA and HEADER Compression settings are both set to OFF.

Should I leave them that way?

My phone is currently set at NORMAL, vs. SECURE or NONE (EXPRESS/GPRS Data Account).

What's the difference? Wouldn't I want SECURE instead?

I see CID=1 (I assume that is a default setting for Caller ID?); along with Edit and Rename under my EXPRESS Account.

What does the CID=1 setting do exactly? Can it be deleted?

My HOME setting is ISDN, but my ROAM setting is ANALOG.

Should I leave it this way, or what is the difference?

My HOME and ROAM accounts show as GSM, and their Data Rates are set at 9.6 KBs/sec.

Can I bump up the speed to 14.4, 19.2, 28.8? Or is that something specific to my phone model?


My EXPRESS account shows GPRS (only for Net?), but has no speed settings/options.

My phone was set to GSM ONLY as my Preferred Service.

But it seems you need GPRS if you are using the wireless Net?

What's the diffence if I just have my phone's Preferred Service set as GSM/GPRS (which I do now)?

My past wireless service only showed me on calls to others as "Wireless Caller". Other callers to me would only show their number, unless they were in my phone's address book.

With Cingular, I'm seeing my full name on caller ID (when I call home), and I don't like that. Is that they way things are now with all cell phones? Just advanced technology?

I talked to Cingular about just putting my first name initial instead of full name, they said they would try and see what happens; it didn't work. Should I ask again?

Anybody have a suggestion on how I can NOT have my name appear with Caller ID?

I have been in and out of a couple of forums and just keep hearing no respect for cingular customer care reps. Why is cingular customer care so badly thought of what is the biggest problem?

do you offer discounts for either pacific northwest bell or US west??

I have heard there is a USB device you can connect to your PC (mine is desktop, no Bluetooth/Infared) that will enable you to transfer to and from your phone/PC via Bluetooth.

Supposedly Radio Shack carries it, but when I inquired, they had no idea what I was talking about. 🙂

Suggestions on such a device?

I have being Sprint customer for last couple of years . I am thinking of switching of cingular but v600 got recalled . How is the Cingular GSM service in NY/NJ area and across 50 America. Sprint is ok but they dont have any bluetooth phone. Do most of the bluetooth phones have file transfer function as for v710 by verizon it was disabled .

Now Verizon is coming out with ther world phone but I dont know if that is Quad band or not.

I know Sony is famous for being proprietary, but didn't give it a thought until I went looking for headsets. ☹️

I got a free, corded one with my phone, which works great and good reception, except the earpiece is huge for my tiny ear. 😁 It is a hard earpiece (no foam cover) and uncomfortable (falls out, etc.).

I have seen there is a hands-free connector/adapter you can buy that will let you plug in a regular headset (non-SE), so I'm wondering if that's the way to go?

Bluetooth ones are expensive, and have heard people complain about Jabra not working, but Motorola does fine (with SE T637). And if I understand it correctly, anytime you use Bluetooth, you are depleting the battery faster.

I plan on using the earbud-type head...

Well, AT&T pissed me off for the last time yesterday and so I went to the Cingular store to switch over, got the v400, got everything setup and the process went smoothly, very friendly person... When he ported my number he said it could be 3 secs or 3 days, but made an emphasis that it would be probably be the former rather than the later. Well it has now been 14 hours and I'm still not able to make calls from the Cingular phone...

So here comes the question

A.) With folks that have done the same scenario, how long has it taken
B.) When should I start worrying/what should I do?

Just wondering what your job is like. I'm soon to be a Cingular employee and was wondering what life would be like. 🙂

- I sell 100-125 phones a month.
- Monthly recurring revenue is usually around 3000.00 per month from all plans.
- 2 year contract.
- grows exponentially (3000=month 1, 6000=month2,etc.) equalling 36000 per month after 12 months of selling plans.
- each month after my first year selling, revenue from sales is 36000 per month times 12 months = 432,000 bills/revenue i created per year.

- my pay is 12% of that. ouch. 😢

I've got a friend who recently switched from Cingular TDMA (Nokia 8265) to Cingular GSM (LG 1200), and is currently having problems with the service. Calls going straight to voicemail, calls NOT going to voicemail, and poor coverage and call quality are symptoms he's now experiencing. Any suggestions? His user area is South Florida.

Hi All! Would like to see if there are any Cingular user's in the Grover Beach-Arroyo Grande area of San Luis Obispo County, California. My Aunt lives there and is currently using Verizon. Her contract is up in a month, and basically has had good service, but does have issues with dropped calls, etc. Would like to hear the pro's & con's of Cingular service in that area...particularily if you as a user have had Verizon as well. I know I've asked this question 6-month's/a year ago, but want to see how the service is now...particularily since she's due to renew, and due to the merger. Just trying to help her out!
